The greatest gift that we receive from you our school families is the opportunity to educate your children. Partnering with our families enables us to develop the leaders of tomorrow.
Dear St. Mark’s Families and Friends:
It is my great pleasure to serve as your Interim Head of School for the 2024-25 school year. Much of what I learned about the school before arriving in May is contained in this report; it is all good news. The school is stable and in a strong financial position. This was affirmed conclusively in our recent audit report.
Enrollment is strong and admissions inquiries are steady. St. Mark’s is expanding and improving our marketing opportunities. The Parents’ Association is active in support of the school and considering creative ideas to enhance the St. Mark’s experience for all constituencies. The future trajectory of the St. Mark’s Episcopal School is convincingly positive.
This report also accounts for the positive impact of philanthropy from the past year. The St. Mark’s community embodies a giving spirit demonstrated by strong financial support of the Annual Fund, the annual School Auction, and the countless volunteer hours contributed by our Parents’ Association. Collectively, this support helps our school excel on many levels. We are well positioned for the arrival of Mr. Bill Fiordalis, your next Head of School.
In the months that I have been part of your community, I have come to appreciate all that makes St. Mark’s special. Our students benefit from rigorous academic programming that prepares them for success at all area high schools. As important, the children are nourished spiritually in Chapel and Christian Education. They are encouraged in leading a life formed by kindness, understanding, and grace. When I visited the area high schools last summer, I was told unequivocally by every school leader that they want our graduates. We are fulfilling our mission and guiding our students toward continued success.
We are grateful for the support we enjoy from parents, teachers, staff, grandparents, alumni, and friends of the school. Thank you. Independent schools count on support beyond tuition in striving to provide excellent programming. It all begins with recruitment and retention of dedicated teachers. We have a great faculty. The Advisory Board is pursuing creative strategies to support and nourish our teachers. Your continued support is so important in helping our school move forward.
With appreciation and best regards,
Scott D. Laird Interim Head of School

St. Mark’s Episcopal School is the premiere standard for PK2 to grade 8 education inspiring diverse, well-rounded, and adaptable students to achieve, serve, and lead. St. Mark’s offers a safe and welcoming community for children of all faiths. Devoted teachers cultivate the best in each child through nurture and challenge. Small class sizes allow educators to provide personal attention as well as build partnerships with school families. With an emphasis on character, leadership, faith, and service, students learn to think with their heads and their hearts.
Designed to encourage and preserve childhood, St. Mark’s offers a balance of enriched core academics, tradition, and innovation. A variety of electives, athletics, fine and performing arts, and a robust after-school program helps students discover and develop their individual interests. Students have the opportunity to leave St. Mark’s with high school credits in both math and world language. St. Mark’s graduates gain admission to top area high schools.
St. Mark’s, like every other independent school, relies on its Annual Fund as its most important source of unrestricted revenue.
Tuition covers the basic operations of the school, but it is the Annual Fund that allows St. Mark’s to provide the extras that make a St. Mark’s education so special.
Your generous gifts to the Annual Fund were used to complete the classroom Smart Board installation for grades 2-8 as well as all special area classrooms, including: art, band, music, library, science lab, and the STEAM Lab.
The Smart Boards are an important educational tool and offer many benefits for our students and teachers, including:
• Increased student engagement
• Accommodating different learning styles by incorporating multimedia on high-resolution displays such as videos, audio, and images
• Facilitates collaboration on lessons
• Access to and integration of educational resources through websites, videos, and applications
The Smart Board installation was completed in all grade 2-8 classrooms and special area classrooms.
Starting with the design of our campus, keeping our students safe is our primary concern at St. Mark’s.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors across all constituents, we have enhanced our visitor management and access control systems through the use of Fobs.
This type of access control solution provides keyless entry on every door and gate on campus to keep students, staff, and visitors secure inside our school premises. All gates, doors, and classroom doors can be monitored and locked from a central station to ensure that our campus is secure at all times.
Thank you for your gifts to the St. Mark’s Annual Fund!
The impact of participation in the Annual Fund is valued beyond dollars.
Participation with any size gift demonstrated a commitment to St. Mark’s, its mission, and to the school’s future success.

The St. Mark’s Auction was an amazing event for our St. Mark’s community at the beautiful Frenchman’s Reserve Country Club on April 12, 2024. The evening featured a silent and live auction, open bar, dinner, and dancing.
We continued our tradition of bringing parents, friends, and faculty together to celebrate community and fellowship in a festive atmosphere. The special evening was attended by nearly 200 guests, and many more participated from home in our silent auction online.
Each year the Auction proceeds help fund a specific strategic initiative that impacts today, tomorrow, and well into the future for St. Mark’s.
Through your generosity, St. Mark’s 2024 Auction raised a total of $258,849.
Funds raised supported the campuswide security enhancement initiative, athletics, and the visual and performing arts programs. Your support of the Auction benefits every PK2-8th grade student and every faculty and staff member at St. Mark’s! Thank you for your generous support!
This incredible annual event would not be possible without our incredible volunteers and attendees Thank You!
St. Mark’s Call to the Heart raised
$105,450 for our outstanding faculty and staff as a one-time bonus. This amount is included in the total auction funds raised.

We were excited to welcome more than 800 Grandparents and “Grandfriends” to campus over the course of two days in January 2024.
Grandparents spent time in classrooms, where they watched our amazing faculty in action. They attended chapel with their grandchildren and enjoyed a reception and a special presentation in Coleman Hall.
Grandparents Day was a huge success! It is a great way for the students to strengthen their bond with their grandparents and receive their encouragement and support for their academic perseverance and education. It was a wonderful reminder of the importance grandparents play in our in the St. Mark’s community.
The school and our students wouldn't be where they are today without the hard work, support, and dedication from all of our grandparents and grandfriends!
Thank you for your gifts to St. Mark’s!
We are grateful for all of our volunteers who are a vital part of our school community!
