The St. Louis Art Museum is one of only a few in the United States which maintains and displays Oceanic art as an active component of its program. At 4 p.m. on Zoom, Kol Rinah’s Verein Discussion Group will continue its Jews in Science series with a look at Nathan M. Newmark, who is considered by many to be the father of modern earthquake engineering and who won the National Medal of Science. Kol Rinah’s Phillip Gould, distinguished adjunct professor at St. Louis University and senior professor at Washington University, will discuss Newmark’s work developing methods for earthquake predictions and structural engineering. From 2 to 3 p.m. Diane Everman will discuss Robert Lurie, host of “The American Jewish Hour,” a nationally syndicated radio show from 1947 -1954. The program offered information about what was happening in the world. Lurie was known by most in St. Louis as the owner and operator of Brentwood Travel, which he ran from 1957-1974. In 1945 he became the first executive director of the St. Louis Jewish Community Relations Council, and in 1951 he became the head of the St. Louis Israel Bonds Program. Everman is the archivist for St Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum and Learning Center & St. Louis Jewish Community Archives. This program is co-sponsored with the Saul Brodsky Jewish Community Library. Sharsheret’s breast and ovarian cancer support group

This monthly group provides support, connection and education to women in the St. Louis Jewish community who have been diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer and are anywhere along their treatment path – before, during, or post-treatment. Facilitated by a licensed clinical social worker, this group meets from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday via Zoom until further notice. At noon, the National Council of Jewish Women-St. Louis welcomes Coalition Director of the Missouri Coalition Against Trafficking and Exploitation (CATE) Linda McQuary. In honor of Human Trafficking Awareness Month, McQuary will discuss how to prevent and respond to human trafficking during the COVID era and beyond. McQuary is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluation activities associated with CATE. Her passion for protecting vulnerable populations transitioned from direct services to a trauma-informed leadership position, building, training, and facilitating multidisciplinary teams involved in the investigation, prosecution, and service provision of child abuse victims. Most children served by these multidisciplinary teams experienced sexual abuse, including victims of human trafficking and commercial sexual

Movie night at Kol Rinah

View a documentary produced locally by Peter Tao of Tao + Lee Associates called “Day One,” which follows a group of teenage refugees from war-torn countries who are enrolled at a unique St. Louis public school for refugees and immigrants using St. Louis as a backdrop. Afterwards, enjoy a lively discussion by the people involved with the movie. The event will be hosted at the newly renovated Kol Rinah, 7791 Maryland Ave. Bring friends and family to help promote the documentary and St. Louis unique growth strategy. The event will start with networking at 4:30 p.m., the film at 4:45 and the discussion at 6.
