Sister Maria Lucia, O.P. will teach 2nd grade. She comes to Saint Henry School from St. Joseph Catholic School in Cottleville, Missouri where she also taught 2nd grade. Sr. Maria Lucia is originally from Alabama and made certain to specify that she is an Alabama fan, punctuating that fact with an enthusiastic, “Roll Tide!” Assistant Principal, Mrs. Katie Long, will be very happy to hear this news. Sr. Maria Lucia has four siblings: three brothers and one sister. Of her four siblings, three serve in the U.S. Air Force. Sr. Maria Lucia loves all sports and particularly enjoys playing soccer. She is very much looking forward to the World Cup this year.

Mrs. Katie Lopez will be an aide in the PreK 3 and 4 classrooms. Mrs. Lopez was born and raised in Nashville, TN. She attended Ensworth, went onto St. Cecilia Academy for high school, and then pursued her degree from North Arkansas College. Her husband, John, was active-duty Navy for eight years and is now in the Navy reserves. Mrs. Lopez and her husband have two children, Grant, who graduated from Saint Henry School this past May, and Lisa, who will be a 7th grader. She stayed out west for her college years where she graduated from Westminster College with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education and ESL. At Westminster she played Division II lacrosse all four years. Ms. Francis is not completely new to Nashville, having recently received her Master's of Education from Vanderbilt University. Living in Nashville has her close to her two older sisters, one living in Charlotte and the other in Atlanta. Ms. Francis enjoys spending her free time in the great outdoors skiing, biking, hiking, and exploring new restaurants. She also enjoys sharing her passion for sports. She is a Celtics and Ravens fan and has a fluffy fouryear-old Labradoodle named Bleu.

Mrs. Massey loves reading, gardening, puzzles, and playing board and card games with her family. She also loves music, so much that she always has music playing when she is home. Those who know Mrs. Massey well call her Katy instead of Katherine.

Ms. Becca Lewis will teach 4th grade. Ms. Lewis started teaching at Saint Henry School the last few weeks of this past school year in the 5th grade classroom when Sister Mary Emily had to leave for her new assignment in Ireland. Ms. Lewis is originally from Fanwood, New Jersey. She attended Belmont University where she received her B.S. in Education and History. She loves to take walks with her dog, Franklin. She also enjoys reading, watching movies, and cheering on the Mets and the Jets.

She is married to Jason Moore of Henderson, KY, and they have five children: son, Sevier, upcoming first-year student at UT Knoxville; son, Oakley, rising sophomore at FRHS; and three children at SHS: daughter Kearney (7th), son Donovan (4th), and daughter Mercer (Kindergarten). After staying home with two young sons until their preschool years, she began working as a teacher’s aide for a Franklin preschool. Mrs. Nordhoff has been married to her husband, Mike, for 27 years. They live in Franklin and have two boys, Ethan who is 21 years old, and Ben who is 18 years old.

He and his wife, Gloria, are the parents of rising 6th grader, Isa Rubadeau, and they also have two dogs (Hazel and Shepherd). Mr. Rubadeau spent his middle and high school years in Lebanon, Indiana, then went on to Purdue University where he received his B.A. in English Literature. He enjoys crossword puzzles, reading, and watching college sports. He comes from a large family, having three brothers and three sisters and Mr. Rubadeau is the second oldest.

Ms. Maddie Sampson will teach music to K through 4th, 5th grade handbells, and 6th grade choir. Ms. Sampson grew up right here in Nashville and has been a Tiger since she herself was a student in Mrs. Luton’s Kindergarten class at Saint Henry School. She graduated from Saint Henry School in 2011 and Father Ryan High School in 2015. Ms. Sampson attended BirminghamSouthern College and studied Business Administration and Music as a double major, and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Education at Lipscomb University. Her parents, Don and Molly Sampson, are long time parishioners of Saint Henry Church, her sister Emma also graduated Saint Henry School (2010), and she has a sweet puppy named Sadie. While she claims to be clumsy, she is quite the athlete, having played school volleyball, basketball, soccer, dance, cheer, and golf. She loves being outside, going to movies and concerts, reading, hanging out with friends and family, and she is also a huge baseball fan.

ARMBRUSTER (‘13) RECOGNIZED BY BELMONT UNIVERSITY

This award is the highest honor awarded to student athletes at Belmont University. It is awarded to a student athlete for displaying academic excellence in the classroom, athletic determination on the field, and model citizenship both on campus and in the community. Pictured above with Coach David Costa when he received the two additional awards, one for Academic AllAmerican and the second was the Servant Leader Award.

SHS GRADUATES: WHERE ARE YOU NOW?

Once a Tiger, always a Tiger! Keep us up-to-date by going to www.sthenryschool.org and select “community” then “alumni” and complete the SHS Alumni Form. Parents of alumni, please feel free to update this form for your son or daughter so we can keep in touch with them!

Saint Henry School’s athletic teams had a busy year and enjoyed the normalcy of this year. The 5th & 6th grade volleyball teams had an exciting season, the 6th-8th golf team swung the clubs well, a flag football program was started for 1st-4th graders, and the soccer teams played hard during the season with the 7th and 8th grade varsity team winning the League and Tournament Championship! Preparations are already happening for the fall sports season.

There were four 5th & 6th grade volleyball teams this year. Each team’s skill level grew a great deal during the season. All the teams finished with winning records with several of them having only lost one or two matches the entire season. The future looks bright for the volleyball program at Saint Henry School! The golf team also had a successful season. There was no team championship this year, but that did not stop the Tigers from showing their stripes.

Connor Cahill won the end of the season tournament, and the title of Best Overall Player for Division I. Thomas Johns also had a strong showing, coming in third during the end of the season tournament.

Eli Samuelson finished second in the Division II tournament and Bridget Steiner was voted Most Improved Golfer this year!

The diocese attempted to start a flag football league right before covid hit and it was exciting to see this program finally come to fruition this year. The league was for 1st-4th grade and the Tigers had threteams during this inaugural season. There was one 3rd & 4th grade team and it was fun watching their teamwork and skill grow during the season. The two 1st & 2nd grade teams had great seasons as well, and Coach Wilson’s team went undefeated! The diocese is already discussing the option to expand this program to other grades during the upcoming season.

The spring season concluded with soccer and the Tigers had a strong showing this year again with one 5th and 6th grade team and two 7th & 8th grade teams consisting of a Junior Varsity and a Varsity team. The 5th & 6th grade team had a fantastic season and lost only one game during the season. The 7th & 8th grade teams (JV and V) both were successful this year in the varsity division. The JV team won their first round of the tournament, avenging a loss from earlier in the season, and lost in the semi-finals. The varsity team finished the season undefeated and won the League Championship. They backed up that performance coming out the champions of the end of season tournament as well!

The spring sports season was an enormous success, and all the teams had a great showing. Preparations are already underway for the fall athletic season at Tiger Town. The athletic program would not be a success without hard work and commitment from the athletes and coaches.

First Lego League

“Building” leaders and problem solvers

Congratulations to the First Lego League teams this season. Saint Henry School was pleased to add a second team this school year. Students explored transportation and logistics as part of this year’s “Cargo Connect” theme. They interviewed professionals in the field, toured the Nashville International Airport and Tennessee Department of Transportation’s Region 3 Station, and even flew drones as part of their research! The TIGERS (Thoughtful, Innovative, Grateful, Engineers, Researchers, and Students) built and programmed competitive autonomous robots using the Lego spike Prime kit, and learned how to work together as a team and mentor peers.

First Lego League took place in person at the Regional and State levels in Tennessee. Both teams competed at the Regional Tournament in December. The Saint Henry Black team, which is the returning team, took home 1st place for their Innovation Project. For this project they created an app to help report potholes using GPS coordinates. Using data from sensors on the automobile, the app would send a message to appropriate road authorities (TDoT, County, Metro) to notify them of the problem areas that needed to be fixed. Placing at the Regional Tournament allowed the Black Team to continue practicing and then competes at the State Championship Tournament in February where they received 2nd place for Core Values. There were 46 teams present.

The Core Values Award celebrates a team that displays extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit. The judges said that the Saint Henry School Team “had outstanding teamwork, innovative thinking, and gracious attitudes.”

The school is proud of all team members! The Black Team members are Emma Kate Kittrell, Abby Greer, Audrey Spencer, Lisa Lopez, George Penne, Isa Rubadeau, John Spencer, and Noah Wiley. The Gold Team members are Ruth Armour, Patrick Barnett, Mollie Donlon, Mikey LaLonde, Anderson Pillow, Henry Thomas, Tessa Brodhag, Maria Sanchez-Garcia, and Roberto Sergio.
