MFIP, Inc: Biographical Information and Firm Background Business Biography MFIP is a CTA/CPO firm founded by Steven Prusky to deploy strategies in the (index) futures arena which were developed by Mr. Prusky and his associates at his Registered Investment Advisory firms MFI Associates (no longer registered) and Windsor Securities. Historically a family office managing “house money”, Windsor Securities has only recently begun to market its services. Nevertheless, through word-of-mouth and investment growth (no down years from 1972 through 2004, including the 1973 bear market), each has enjoyed long business relationships. Client and staff turnover is very low. The average client has been with Windsor for over 20 years, and some have been with us since inception. In 2012, MFI withdrew its SEC registration since it currently manages money for only one client, a Partnership comprising only family assets. Windsor Securities maintains its registration with the SEC. Steven Prusky, President, Owner Steven founded MFIP in 1996 to augment in the futures’ market work he and Windsor had been performing with index mutual funds. After receiving a degree in Computer Science (Brown University, with Honors), Steven returned to Windsor where he had been working as a summer employee. Steven initially was responsible for automating Windsor’s data collection. He began his involvement in investing in 1987, when he co-developed Windsor’s first “blackbox” trading model, and he has been an architect of each subsequent trading model. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s Steven continued intense research on equity markets while becoming the chief client liaison and one of Windsor’s two investment managers. In rapid succession, Steven received his series 7, series 24, and insurance license. Shortly thereafter he received his series 3 and started MFIP Inc. (a CTA); he continues research on applying technical analysis to the futures’ markets. Steven has been married for 20 years and is a father of five. Michael Chang, Chief Information Officer (contracted from MFI Associates) Michael graduated from MIT, and received an MBA from the Sloan School of Businesses Management at MIT and a PhD in Business from Stanford University. He was teaching at the Wharton school in 1984 when recruited by the firm. Michael has been with us ever since, and is in charge of all data management. Michael has been married for 25 years and is an involved father of two, grandfather of one. David Bahlavooni, Head of Research (contracted from MFI Associates) David has been with the firm since 1997. He graduated the University of Pittsburgh in April 1996, Phi Beta Kappa and with a QPA of 4.0. Long interested in finance, within a year of graduation David and MFI found each other. David started in our research department, collecting and massaging data. Since then he has taken the lead in moving most of our “first pass” research to Excel, where David has developed an expertise in Visual Basic, database design (Access and SQL), and data-vendor interfaces. In 2008 David began managing a small portion of house money and has increasingly developed keen market savvy. He is a married father of four. Tony Acquadro, Managing Director Tony graduated from The Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech and holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management. Tony has been developing algorithms with Steven Prusky since 2003 and serves as head of business development. Before joining Windsor Tony served as Vice President of Institutional Markets and a member of the Investment Committee for BTS Asset Management, as Managing Director for Windsor. Prior roles include CEO of DaVinci Investment Advisors; a quant based systematic hedge fund. From 1998 to 2003, Tony headed sales as National Vice President for ProFunds. He began his career with Morgan Stanley in 1993 in Washington, DC. Tony is a Director of The Hedge Fund Association in New York, speaks fluent Italian and is a member of The Market Technicians Association. Tony holds Series 7, 63, 65, 3 and 30 licenses. Paul Prusky, Consulting Officer (contracted from MFI Associates) Paul attended Harvard Medical School on a scholarship and graduated in 1955. After serving in the Coast Guard postresidency (internal medicine), Paul became intrigued by stock market behavior after observing how his nascent equity investments weathered the bear market of the early 1960s. What started as avocational research became an intense independent study, and eventually Paul took a leave of absence (never to return) to concentrate on the study of stock market behavior generally, and technical analysis in particular. Through the mid-1960’s, Paul continued his study and early investing. Eventually Delaware Investments hired Paul to run Delaware’s technical analysis department and to manage Delaware’s 401(k) program using macro-market technical analysis and Delaware’s own mutual funds. Paul was quite successful, at Delaware. In 1970, Paul started MFI Associates as an SEC-registered Investment Advisor. In 1973 Paul purchased Windsor Securities, a broker-dealer, which Paul sold Windsor to Steven in 2005.
