THE IMPORTANCE OF NANOTECHNOLOGY

AS THE NAME IMPLIES, NANOTECHNOLOGY REFERS TO TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT AT A MOLECULAR AND ATOMIC SCALE, LEADING TO THE STUDY OF STRUCTURES AND DEVICES THAT ARE BETWEEN 1 TO 100 NANOMETERS IN RANGE.

At this size, these nanomaterials react and behave in ways that are vastly different from much larger-sized particles, providing new areas of research to the medical science community.

Thanks to nanotechnology, researchers are continually seeing potential in innovative solutions that help to improve analysis and data quality. Additionally, because of the small sizes involved, there’s less sample volume space required for researchers, which can be a hindrance to progress. As nanotech continues to advance, the benefits are beginning to outweigh the initial challenges and provide hope for improved drug discovery and diagnostic measures.

VACCINE DEVELOPMENT

Progressively, nanotechnology is making its way into the world of vaccine development, with nanoparticles being used to deliver antigens into the body. Nanovaccines, as these are called, are developed using nanoparticles that can target the human body’s immune system at a cellular level, something that provides an extra shield against resistance by the body. The pandemic brought to the fore the role of nanotechnology in vaccine development, as some of the vaccines were created using this tech.
