This book is a compilation of the research and work produced by the Design 10 students of the School of Architecture at FIU. CROP studio proposes the adaptive reuse of the Claude Pepper Federal Building in Downtown Miami, through the change and insertion of additional program that can range from urban farming to green infrastructure. The focus is centered on the strategies of intervention and reuse of the existing structure, to create a hybrid program with the objective of promoting self-sufficient communities within urban centers. The goal is to retro-fit the building by combining any given program (residential, lodging, office, commercial, medical, educational, cultural, fitness, wellness or entertainment) with a “plug” component (farming, livestock, apiculture, hydroponics, aeroponics, permaculture, solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy, algae fuel, water collection / treatment, etc) to serve its users and the neighborhood. Either as a building addition or partial renovation, the new building insertion
