Searching for a thesis placement? Here is how to reach out to potential supervisors: Reach out to supervisors early by email. Reach out to more than one supervisor. Keep a spreadsheet tracker of when you reached out. You can reach out to professors outside of McMaster. Two general formats for email: A mini cover letter: express your interest in their research, why you want to do a thesis with them, a bit about the program and highlight the skills you can bring to their team. Shorter ‘ask for coffee’ email: express your interest in their research ask for 15 mins of their time to meet and discuss their research and if they accept undergraduate thesis student. Include your resume and transcript as a PDF attachment. You can have the SSC or SCCE review this. Highlight your experiences! No reply? No Problem! Profs get ALOT of emails.
