At times customers come in for a second opinion, where they were told that they should replace their car’s air conditioning compressor and so on. Please note, that a car’s air compressor is not a typical part of maintenance.Acar’s air conditioning compressor usually lasts the life of the car if the air conditioning is properly serviced. The part that usually wears out first is the condenser, not the compressor. Here is some information on somemain partsof your car’s air conditioning system which we furnish to our customers who come in for carAC repair in Queens.
The CONDENSER is in front of the radiator and is essentially a heat exchanger. Here high temperature refrigerant is cooled and turned back into a liquid. This liquid refrigerant flows to the evaporator that cools the cabin. When the vehicle is in motion, air (ambient air) going through the grille cools the condenser. When the car is stationary, an electric fan does the cooling.
The EVAPORATOR is located in the passenger cab and is where the refrigerant goes from liquid back to gas form. The evaporation of the refrigerant removes heat from the inside of the passenger cabin. The COMPRESSOR is the “engine” that powers the whole process, pumping the
refrigerant through the system and low-pressure gas to high pressure gas, low temperature gas to high temperature gas. This hot gas will be turned back to a liquid form and cooled off by the condenser.
