UNSW Canberra Prize for Best Female in Mathematics In recognition and celebration of the talents and hard work of female students around the Canberra region, in the field of Mathematics, UNSW Canberra initiated the Prize for Best Female in Mathematics, now in its third year. Tylah Baker (Year 9) and Nivedha Manikandan (Year 10) were the first prize recipients from St Clare’s, based on their 2019 results in Mathematics. Both students receive a $250 prize and a $5000 undergraduate scholarship (if they choose to later enrol in a Bachelor of Engineering as a civilian at UNSW Canberra). During the awards ceremony, which was held at ADFA on Wednesday 4 March in the lead up to International Women’s Day, award recipients were privileged to

hear from Dr Sondross El Sawah, Associate Professor for the School of Engineering and Information Technology. Dr El Sawah spoke about the need for young women to free themselves from limiting stereotypical female roles and embrace careers in STEM. Dr El Sawah spoke of her influential career advising Environmental and Defence decision makers to make better decisions by using computation and logic. Congratulations are also extended to the second and thrid prize winners, Charlotte Guthrie and Imogen Johnston (Year 9) and Jessica Charles and Rory Bugden (Year 10). ACS Diversity Event Australian Computer Society Canberra hosted a Diversity and Inclusion event on Tuesday 3 March at the National Portrait Gallery to promote "Mental Health & Wellbeing beyond the workplace" as part of International Women's Day celebrations. Year 12 Information Technolongies student Clare Cafaro-Stauffer represented the College at the event and was able hear from a wide range of speakers within the industry including Carrie - Ann Leeson, CEO, Lifeline Canberra and Gavin McCosker, Deputy Chief Executive, Australian Financial

Security Authority who were able to give insight specific to their workplace and professional experience. Clare also used this opportunity to speak with other attendees in the IT field that highlighted the range of employment and study opportunities available.
