Park Activity Guide Winter/Spring 2024: January–April

built by nature. rooted in history. made for play.

Words from the Parks Director As we say goodbye to the brief colors of fall and winter coming fast on our heels, one of the things I often hear is, “You have to be looking forward to winter. The parks are pretty quiet then, right?” While it is true that they do slow down some, attendance goes down, outdoor weddings and birthday parties are not as desirable in 20-degree weather, playgrounds go quiet, splash pads are closed, and the dog may rather lay inside than head to the dog park, winter provides great opportunities to get out and experience St. Charles County parks. Our winter program guide provides the perfect opportunities to continue family traditions or make new memories. Whether you are heading out to The Historic Daniel Boone Home for Ryan Graham the annual Christmas Candlelight program with loved ones or participating in St. Charles County Parks Director the Indoor Disc Golf Putting League at Quail Ridge Park, there is something for everyone in this “quiet” park season. Despite the cold and sometimes dreariness of winter, it provides ample beauty if you look, so we hope to see you out, bundled up, hiking a trail, throwing a disc, biking, or even sledding down a hill should we get snow. The winter months are also not a quiet time for park staff. We work hard to ensure that the parks are open and accessible. While we are not mowing grass, planting flowers, or guiding kayak trips down the blueway, park staff is busy tearing apart, fixing and maintaining equipment, completing new construction projects, fixing facilities, researching, and preparing for the new year when parks are not as quiet. I want to take a moment to thank this talented and dedicated bunch of park workers. They work in the heat, the cold, and the rain on weekends and nights throughout the year. They are working to provide the best possible parks and experiences to our citizens. I know I am biased, but I firmly believe that St. Charles

About the Parks Department The St. Charles County Parks & Recreation Department was created in 1997 after voters approved a local use tax with the sole purpose of park land acquisition, development, operations, and maintenance. The department’s mission is to preserve natural and historic features in areas throughout the county for the use of future generations. Today, the department has 21 parks, of which 18 are open and three are in reserve, totaling 4,349 acres of acquired park land. From historic homesteads to a skate park; from camping, hiking, biking, and fishing to weddings and educational classrooms, there’s something for everyone in St. Charles County Parks. For more information and specifics about each park, amenities, trails, and more, visit stccparks.org.
