built by nature. rooted in history. made for play.
With the first three quarters of 2023 nearly in the books, it’s time to look toward 2024. I’m thrilled about all we have planned, especially at Kinetic Park. New and exciting things are happening there, and I am excited to share all the great news with you!
Ryan Graham St. Charles County Parks DirectorMany of you might remember that Kinetic Park was the Youth Activity Park when it opened in 2005. It was renamed in 2021 because our activities began to gear more and more to not just youth, but people of all ages. It is home to the largest pump track in the United States, the largest outdoor skate park in Missouri and a 30-foot indoor rock-climbing wall. During renovations for Phase I in 2021, a bike skills course was added.
We recently started construction on a new indoor facility that will be home to indoor pickleball courts, an esports gaming lounge and expanded concessions stand. Rentable outdoor picnic shelters will be added for families to celebrate birthdays and special events at the park. The current building is being remodeled and improved to better accommodate the indoor climbing area, concessions area, party rooms and registration/front desk. And outside, we’re creating a massive playground area – about one acre square – designed for multiple types of play for children with all abilities! Construction on this new phase is expected to be complete the first half of 2024.
The St. Charles County Parks & Recreation Department was created in 1997 after voters approved a local use tax with the sole purpose of park land acquisition, development, operations, and maintenance. The department’s mission is to preserve natural and historic features in areas throughout the county for the use of future generations. Today, the department has 21 parks, of which 18 are open and three are in reserve, totaling 4,349 acres of acquired park land. From historic homesteads to a skate park; from camping, hiking, biking, and fishing to weddings and educational classrooms, there’s something for everyone in St. Charles County Parks. For more information and specifics about each park, amenities, trails, and more, visit stccparks.org.
In addition to all of this, we’ll be starting Phase III soon that will include more great improvements. We’ll be adding outdoor pickleball courts, a splashpad play area and a big wheel/remote controlled car racetrack.
All this new development will further increase the appeal of the park for families and individuals of all ages and attract visitors from St. Charles County and beyond. I speak for the entire St. Charles County Parks & Recreation Department when I say we look forward to completing construction and welcoming you to the new Kinetic Park! Keep up to date on construction and activities by following us on social media!

Spinners, weavers, rope makers, and a variety of other artists will be on hand to sell their creations as well as teach and showcase both historic and modern fiber arts.
