Basic driving skills

DARE ID: RC.04.04 (Level 1)

Welcome to the Driving Basics Challenge 1! This challenge is designed to help you master essential driving skills, such as steering, accelerating, braking, and making smooth turns. These foundational techniques will build your confidence and control, whether you ' re navigating quiet streets or busy roads.

BASICS

1. Throttle Control:

i. Push the throttle stick/trigger forward to accelerate and pull back for reverse.

2. Steering Control:

i. Turn the steering wheel/stick to navigate left and right.

ii. Combine throttle and steering for smooth cornering.

3. Trim Adjustments:

i. Use the trim dials on the transmitter to fine-tune the vehicle's direction and throttle to prevent drift.

4. Start with Straight Lines:

i. Drive your RC vehicle in a straight line at a moderate speed.

ii. Come to a smooth stop at the end of the straight section.

5. Master Sharp Turns:

i. Slow down as you approach the turn.

ii. Rotate the steering wheel/stick sharply to navigate the corner.

iii. Accelerate gently as you exit the turn.

6. Reversing: Practice driving backward while maintaining directional control.

7. Practice and Adjust:

i. Repeat the process several times to refine your control over both distance and turning.

ii. As you improve, try practicing with tighter turns or different speeds.

CHALLENGE:

Drive your RC vehicle along a straight path with a specific distance of 200cm (2 meters), then execute a turn to return to the starting point.

CHALLENGE GUIDELINES:

1. Mark the Course:

i. Use a tape measure to mark a 1meter 100cm straight path on a flat surface.

ii. Place a visible marker (like a cone, small object, or chalk line) at the 2 meters point where the turn will start.

2. Drive to the Marker:

i. Start your RC vehicle and drive it straight toward the marker. Focus on maintaining a straight line by using steady steering control.

ii. Slow down as you approach the 2 meters marker to prepare for the turn.

3. Execute the Turn:

i. Upon reaching the marker, adjust the steering on the controller gently to guide the RC vehicle into a smooth turn.

ii. Ensure you make a controlled turn without skidding, and align the vehicle to the next intended direction.

4. Return or Continue:

I. After completing the turn, either drive back to the starting point or continue to the next segment of your course.

SCORING:

1. Straight Driving (100 STA):

i. Stays perfectly on the marked path: 100 STA

ii. Minor deviation but recovers quickly: 70 STA

iii. Major deviation or veering off completely: 50 STA

2. Turn Execution (50 STA):

i. Smooth and controlled turn with no stopping: 50 STA

ii. Slight adjustment or hesitation during the turn: 20 STA

iii. Erratic or incomplete turn: 10 STA

3. Speed Control (100 STA):

i. Maintains steady speed throughout and slows down at the turn: 100 STA

ii. Slight fluctuations in speed but manages to stay on course: 50 STA

iii. Inconsistent or jerky speed: 10 STA

DARE LEVEL

i. DARE Attempted (50 STA)

ii. DARE Achieved (150 STA)

iii. DARE Surpassed (250 STA)
