A Letter from the

President The Fort Meade Alliance is proud of its leadership role in the community. Thank you for your continued support of the FMA. As I say all the time, we are not simply an organization where members show up a couple times of year to network. We are a “doing organization” that makes significant contributions to Fort Meade and the surrounding region. Your participation is crucial to ensure that we accomplish all of our lofty goals. As you read this report, please consider getting more involved by participating on one of our committees. Our Education & Workforce Committee, led by Penny Cantwell, has a long and storied history of bringing together industry, government and academia to address the region’s workforce needs. Our Military & Family Committee, led by Lisa Decker, is dedicated to fostering collaboration and developing initiatives to support our service members and their families. Improving the transportation system in the region is crucial to economic growth, workforce development and quality of life. Chaired by Stuart Title, our Transportation Committee has been very busy, working with the leadership of the Maryland Department of Transportation and Maryland Transit Administration to advocate for many meaningful solutions. Our Meade Business Connect Committee, led by Bill Dunahoo, organizes informative events to provide connections and foster business development throughout the region. Participating on our Membership Committee, chaired by Hubert Braithwaite, is a great way to connect with other FMA members and help strengthen the Alliance.

Year In Review

– 12 – FMA Foundation Gains Momentum

Finally, our Rising Star Network provides emerging leaders from FMA member companies with the opportunity to network and gain insights from senior leaders in the Fort Meade community. Encourage young professionals from within your company to get involved with this program, which targets professionals 35 years or younger. Your active involvement is a great way to have a positive impact on the region, while building strong business connections.

Sincerely,

The Fort Mede Alliance would like to thank Fort George G. Meade Garrison Commander Col. Brian P. Foley for his leadership and commitment to the region. Col. Foley has been a tireless advocate for the critical missions conducted at the installation and a valuable partner to the businesses that support those missions. During a time of Department of Defense downsizing, Col. Foley and the Garrison staff successfully raised U.S. Army awareness of infrastructure funding needs at Fort Meade. Over the last three years, the Army has approved every dollar of restoration and maintenance funding that the Garrison requested. In addition, the Garrison secured $35 million in military construction funds to begin widening the gates and the roads on Fort Meade to support the planned growth. Col. Foley has also been a fantastic spokesman for the Fort Meade region, promoting its crucial role as an economic asset and employment driver for the State of Maryland. The Fort Meade Alliance is proud of what we have accomplished together with Col. Foley and we wish him continued success.

2016 Annual Report – 11

FMA Foundation

Gains Momentum The Fort Meade Alliance Foundation closed out 2015 in record-breaking fashion. The Foundation, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, raised more than $23,000 during the last two months of the year to support its resiliency and education efforts. And the momentum continued to grow. The Foundation has embarked on a significant partnership with the U.S. Army and the Fort George G. Meade Garrison to establish a Resiliency Campus for the service personnel, their families and civilians at the Installation. The plan includes the renovation of the installation’s Kuhn Hall and its conversion into a Resiliency & Education Center, which will serve as the hub of information, programming, and services for the Fort Meade Community, focusing on the five areas of resiliency: physical, emotional, social, family and spiritual. This year, the FMA Foundation leveraged funds raised through individuals and organizations to strengthen the structure of the Foundation in preparation for the upcoming campaign to renovate Kuhn Hall. The Foundation utilized funds from the Anne Arundel County Video Lottery Terminal Local Impact Grant to partner with a local philanthropic advisory firm to develop core organizational practices, including a comprehensive gift acceptance policy, vision and priorities statements, a constituent management system, annual appeal strategy and case statement for support. The FMA Foundation’s partnership with the Baltimore Orioles continued in 2015, with the Orioles raising more than $13,000 for the FMA Foundation through an online jersey auction. In addition, the Foundation’s third annual Backyard BBQ raised more than $12,000.

(Top) This year’s Backyard BBQ, with silent auction, wine and bourbon grabs and casino games, raised more than $12,000. (Bottom) The Orioles continued to support the Foundation with a nearly $13,000 donation.

For the fifth straight year, the Foundation awarded the Kenneth O. McCreedy Scholarship to a deserving Meade High School student who plans to pursue higher education in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math or linguistics. Also, the FMA Foundation was proud to financially support Spring Tech Mania at Towson University in April and Praxis Engineering’s golf tournament in May.
