This report highlights the commitment of our community, whose generosity in so many ways enables us to sustain our dedication to academic excellence and the vibrant, nurturing atmosphere that defines our school.
Your dedication to St. Martin’s continues to enhance the SMES experience through your supportive contributions of time, talent and resources. It is this commitment that makes our community truly exceptional.
We are incredibly fortunate to have dedicated teachers, staff and parents who work together to create a supportive and safe environment where our students can explore, learn and grow. Thank you for prioritizing SMES and investing in an environment that reinforces the mission of the school to provide a quality education of the whole person in a loving, Christian atmosphere, which fosters lifelong learning. Collectively, we all make our school an even stronger place for our students to flourish, and we are thankful for your part in this special community.

ST. MARTIN’S FUND VOLUNTEERS
The St. Martin’s Fund team of 36 volunteers helped raise over $650,000 for the school during the 2023-2024 school year. These individuals encourage parent participation from our community. Support of The St. Martin’s Fund is critical in terms of maintaining the level of educational excellence for which SMES is known and would not be possible without the dedication and commitment from such talented parent volunteers.

Gifts to the St. Martin’s Fund
ST. MARTIN’S EPISCOPAL SCHOOL would not be what it is today without the inspirational involvement of our larger community. Those community members include our parents, faculty/staff, parishioners, former parents, trustees and friends. The St. Martin’s Fund is the school’s annual giving campaign that raises critical philanthropic dollars to support the daily operations of the school. We activate annual gifts immediately, allowing St. Martin’s Episcopal School to improve students’ educational experiences.
The St. Martin’s Fund is the foundation of all St. Martin’s fundraising efforts, and each year we ask every family to participate. Support of The St. Martin’s Fund enhances every student’s experience.
All Leadership Circle members and above are honored at a fall and spring reception at Peachtree Golf Club. Head of School Circle members are honored at a private dinner with Maria Croley Madden in the fall.

Meet the Macauley Family
SMES FAMILY SINCE 2021, PARENTS TO RISING 7TH GRADER ELLA
LEADERSHIP CIRCLE DONORS, RESTRICTED DONOR FOR SAFETY AND SECURITY PROJECT
The Macauley family has lived in Brookhaven since 2010 with their two daughters, Lea, a rising senior at Marist School, and their youngest, Ella, a rising seventh-grader at SMES. The Macauleys joined St. Martin’s in 2021 and have been SMES Leadership Circle Donors since 2021. The Macauley family has invested in the school since day one. In the spring of 2024, Stephen and Sahlee met with Maria Croley Madden and Lauren Sims and learned about a pending project of particular interest to their family. After learning about the school’s commitment to enhanced school safety through a new security camera system, they knew their family was willing to make a six-figure gift to overhaul this critical safety feature.
What inspired the gift to overhaul the SMES security camera system?
Our daughter has thrived in the supportive and caring environment of St. Martin’s Episcopal School since 2021, both during her elementary and current middle school journey. It was crucial for our family to choose a charitable endeavor that would assist all parents, teachers, staff, and students at SMES, both now and in the future. Upon seeing the necessity of improving and expanding SMES’s surveillance and monitoring capabilities, we realized this was the ideal giving opportunity for our family.
How did you find out there was a funding need?
Like many other parents, we only really thought about the age and capabilities of the SMES security cameras once Mrs. Madden mentioned that a major upgrade was required as part of the 2024 Coffee & Conversation presentation. For our family, the presentation was a “light bulb” moment to cut the capital project timetable from years to a few weeks for the students to return for the 2025 academic year with an upgraded security camera system.
Why give back to SMES when so many other organizations are in need?
Not counting time spent in the carpool queue, our daughter spends approximately 1,260 hours on the SMES campus during a school year! Given this, it made sense to give a gift that would add to the peace of mind of all parents during the school day and afterschool events.
What has SMES meant to you and your family?
Our daughter started her education at The Schenck School in kindergarten, and her time at SMES has been an incredible continuation of her educational journey. We will always be thankful to the faculty and administrators of SMES who made our daughters’ transition from The Schenck School a success against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the kind and loving teachers and administrators, SMES continues to provide a nurturing and attentive atmosphere that fosters our daughter’s social and emotional development.
HEAD OF SCHOOL RECEPTION

Meet the Pope Family
23-24 NEW FAMILY, PARENTS TO BRAX IN BEGINNERS AND HEAD OF SCHOOL CIRCLE LEADERSHIP DONORS
What inspires you to give to SMES, especially as a first-year family?
This year was Brax’s first year ever in a school setting, and we were so thrilled with our experience. The St. Martin’s community is truly one of a kind! The opportunities for volunteering, getting involved, meeting other families and watching your child grow feel endless.
What has SMES meant to you and your family?
Brax has cystic fibrosis, so the overall environment was a huge factor in our decision about where he should start preschool. The St. Martin’s team went above and beyond to make us feel reassured, safe and comfortable with our situation. We never doubted that Brax was always in the best hands (special shout out to Nurse Jenny and our “Team Brax” text message thread!) and not just another number in a classroom. We really love the feeling of a safe cocoon and sweet neighborhood school paired with the top-notch staff and amenities of a larger campus. As a new family, we felt so welcomed and invited in by everyone.
What has been your favorite thing about SMES so far?
Hands down, all of the adorable school events last year — from the Halloween parade and cookies with Santa to the Beginners music show and the end-of-year popsicle party. Mystery reader and chapel visitor days were the best! We truly enjoyed watching Brax grow in his co-curricular classes, including art, music & movement and science (he would definitely say his favorite thing was tinkering and making slime!). It’s reassuring to know we can continue to feel settled and put down roots at SMES, where Brax can continue to learn and thrive here — not to mention form special friendships — through 8th grade.
How did you decide to make a gift to the school?
What better place to give than where Brax spends most of his days? We know this school will ultimately shape his character as he grows into a young man, and we’ve already seen how the special environment of SMES has started to instill kindness, curiosity, empathy and a deep love of learning. We know Maria and the board have big, positive plans for the school’s future, and we want to help make them a reality during Brax’s time here at SMES.

Grandparents Honor Roll
St. Martin’s grandparents are special to our community. One of the hallmarks of a SMES education is the strong sense of community that surrounds our students each day. Grandparents play an essential role in the lives of SMES students. Cross-generational involvement is very important for our students, and we are pleased to have so many grandparents involved.
We thank the following donors whose gifts during the 2023-2024 academic year helped every student at St. Martin’s Episcopal School.

Dear St. Martin’s Family,
The PTO at St. Martin’s continues to thrive because of our school’s culture of giving – of time, talent, support, and resources. Our success depends entirely on the incredible generosity of the St. Martin’s community. None of our events or programs would be possible without it. We truly believe we stand on the shoulders of giants who have served and donated before us so our kids can thrive. Now it is our turn!
Our PTO works hard to foster a strong St. Martin’s family through communitybuilding events as well as fundraisers. Our school needs both — great community and fundraising! PTO events like the Fall Festival, Cookies & Carols, Daughters’ Dance and Sons’ events help foster those relationships and build new ones to help our community grow. PTO programs like Warrior Buddies, Warrior Wings, and the Room Representative program help foster new relationships. Other committees like Hospitality, Orientation, and Teacher Appreciation help create a climate of support that makes St. Martin’s feel like home. Our biggest fundraiser and community-building event of the year is the FLING! It is without a doubt, the night that best showcases all that is good about our community! The relationships cultivated out of this event, and the money raised for our school marries the worlds of community and fundraising! WHAT A NIGHT!
Thank you to…
• More than 300 people – parents, teachers, and students – who graciously served as PTO volunteers this year! We quite literally could not have done it without you. We hope your volunteer time fostered old and new relationships!
• 254 families who donated to the Teacher Fund! Your generosity provided Christmas and End-of-Year cash gifts for each and every teacher at SMES.
• Those who donated or bought used uniforms, shopped at the book fair, participated in or sponsored the Warrior Run, purchased items from the school store and attended or sponsored the FLING. Your support helped provide the revenue necessary to fund PTO programs and events for next year.
We owe a world of gratitude to every PTO volunteer, sponsor, donor, and event attendee. Thank you for making this year the PTO’s most successful year yet. And, most importantly, thank you for continuing the tradition of generous support that makes St. Martin’s a place where our children and every member of our community can – and do – thrive.
Sincerely,
Leah and Allyson

Fling 2024
FLING 2024 LAISSEZ LES BONS TEMPS ROULER!
On February 3, 2024, the Intercontinental Hotel in Atlanta was transformed into an opulent Mardi Gras extravaganza for the PTO’s biennial Fling. This remarkable event saw over 480 parents, guests, faculty, and staff gather to enjoy an evening filled with community spirit, celebration, and giving.
Jennifer and Roger House, Fling Chairs
The night was packed with highlights, including an elegant seated dinner, lively silent and live auctions, and plenty of dancing that kept the festive atmosphere alive. The Fund-A-Need was a significant success, raising $40,000 for the SMES science department. Overall, the event garnered over $220,000 to support the school’s various initiatives and programs.
Such an extraordinary event would not have been possible without the exceptional efforts of our co-chairs, Jen and Roger House. Their leadership and dedication were instrumental in crafting an unforgettable experience that united our community in support of a shared cause. Thank you, Jen and Roger, for your hard work and for making this year’s Fling an event to remember!
