... Dr. David Dozier, 1899 to 1986, one of Sacramento's last true “old-time” family practitioners and one of our few local medical historians, who had a special interest in the history of Sacramento hospitals. For many years Dr. Dozier shared his collection of historical photographs with the Medi cal Society for display in the Guttman Library. Many of the photographs in this book are from his collection. ... All the physicians and medical caregivers who have, for over 150 years, staffed the spectrum of hospitals in Sacramento, from tent to concrete, from amputation without anesthetic to cardiac bypass, and from canvas cots floating in the floodwaters to intensive care technology.
