On June 24, 1895, Mater Misericordiae, the âSisters* Hospital,â had opened its doors at 23rd between Q and R Streets in the former Ridge Home. The home was donated by Mrs. E.B. The latter had gone east to study at the Harvard Medical School. He and Dr. Huntington devoted much of their time to public health and community welfare in general. They had helped the Sisters ofMercy, at their convent at 9 th and G Streets, to take over the Ridge Home.
