Campaign Update

A Celebratory and Fruitful Spring!

May marked the end of the quiet phase of St. Philip’s historic WE BELIEVE CAMPAIGN. We are ecstatic to announce that $33 million has been raised thus far toward our $50 million goal! The campaign is comprised of a combination of operating, endowment, and capital funds intended to grow and sustain the St. Philip’s ministry.

Three significant pledges made this spring enabled the campaign to reach its current milestone:

$2 million from the Dallas Stars Foundation – a five-year grant beginning in 2020 to build a new multi-sport athletic complex and provide partial funding for after school and summer programming

$2 million from the Perot Family – a challenge gift to endow and name the Aunt Bette's Community Pantry

$500,000 from The Landin Family – to partially endow the Reading Specialist staff position

Additionally, April and May were filled with appreciation and fundraising events to thank our volunteers, campaign leadership, and to kick-off the capital phase of the WE BELIEVE effort. Thanks to our budding relationship with the Dallas Stars, we even held a bonus event – a special FIELD DAY AT THE COTTON BOWL for our students. God is moving at St. Philip’s!

WID-WID-WIDI: Why I Do, What I Do, Where I Do It

St. Philip’s is not only a place that edifies students academically but it is also a haven that cultivates all of its students’ God-given gifts.

Rachel Martin

Music Teacher (WHY I DO)

I grew up in a middle class, single-parent household. My father wanted the best for my sister and me, so naturally we attended top tier schools in the DFW Metroplex. I was one of eight black students in my class of 76. We were never recognized for academics, only athletics. My other gifts were not recognized or even acknowledged. In the classroom, I was invisible unless I had a missing assignment from the gradebook (due to traveling for athletics).

I choose to teach students of color because I know what it feels like not to have my being affirmed. Not only did I need and desire for my blackness and culture to be affirmed, but also for my mind, academics, and other talents.

St. Philip’s is not only a place that edifies students academically, but it is also a haven that cultivates all of its students’ God-given gifts.

Gonzalo Say, Facilities Manager (WHAT I DO)

As the Facilities Manager, I take pride in the quality of work that my team and I provide daily. All four of my children have attended St. Philip’s School, so I feel a part of the family here. I also understand the importance of keeping each classroom clean and sanitized for the health of each student.

I enjoy working at St. Philip’s because of the services they are providing back to the community. Over the years, I have seen this community change for the better thanks to St. Philip’s School and Community Center. I am very blessed to work here and be a part of this community.

Kathy Hubbard

Chairman, St. Philip’s Board of Trustees (WHERE I DO IT)

St. Philip’s is where it all began. Not only is this true for my son, Elijah, starting in prekindergarten, but it sparked a fire in me to get involved. Over the years, my volunteerism evolved from supporting the school during Elijah’s elementary years to now, almost 16 years later. I want to make sure that St. Philip’s is around for future generations. I want to make sure others receive what my family experienced -- an excellent education, a welcoming community, and an opportunity to serve others. In fact, I get excited thinking about St. Philips’ impact in the years to come, especially through its community center programs and community development projects. At St. Philip’s, I found a place to work for something bigger than myself, that is energizing…that is truly living!
