AT A GLANCE: CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Our school currently serves 230 students in grades PreK2-6th (ages 2-12) who benefit from St. Philip’s rigorous, nurturing, and dynamic Christian-based education.

PBL Showcase and Curriculum Shines at St. Philip’s

Most schools aren’t typically known to provide the active skills such as critical thinking and cooperation necessary for students to learn to solve problems and overcome challenges; however, St. Philip’s isn’t the typical school. For the last two years, Project Based Learning (PBL) has been incorporated into every aspect of the school’s curriculum. In fact, on February 26, St. Philip’s held its first school-wide Project Based Learning Showcase featuring projects from every grade level, including our pre-school scholars.

The final products were the result of students’ voices and choices and addressed a broad range of issues that connected to class curriculum. Some of the driving questions our students explored included “How can we redesign buildings in our community to encourage families to move into our neighborhood?”, “What ways can I show kindness?”, “How do humans interact with nature in urban ecosystems?”, and “What are some ways that public art can affect our community in a positive/negative way?”

“My PBL was fun because I got to use my imagination and work with my friends,” shared a third grade student. Peer-to-peer learning is a proven strength of Project Based Learning. In years ahead, St. Philip’s hopes to see the impact this methodology has in preparing its students for the world and the growing collaborative work environment.

Chapel – The Most Important Part of St. Philip’s Day

There is a saying at St. Philip’s: “It’s okay to PRAY and make an A.” Worship lies at the heart of St. Philip’s School and Community Center. It forms the center of our spiritual and religious growth, and having the entire school gather for chapel at the start of each day shapes our identity, mission, and ministry. Chapel, which is led by rotating faculty and volunteer clergy, provides students with dedicated time to pause, pray, and reflect while St. Philip’s has the awesome privilege to pour into them not only the love of God but also the love of self and love of learning that will provide a solid foundation for their lives.

In a recent survey of 500+ alumni, over 90% ranked “chapel” as the most valuable aspect of their St. Philip’s experience. What a blessing that so many of our students have benefited from our priority to nurture spiritual growth along with academic growth.

Learning in Action!

There are many benefits to an independent school education: small class sizes, expanded curriculum, and additional resources. At St. Philip’s, these benefits ring true, as does a tangible spirit and culture of innovation, exposure, creativity, and curiosity. From Early Childhood to Middle School, we do our best to intentionally nurture and educate the whole child. Ultimately, St. Philip’s goal is to provide a platform and foundation that allows our scholars to grow into curious, compassionate, creative, and confident people prepared to make positive contributions to our world.

These photos capture the depth and breadth of learning at St. Philip’s in all three areas of our school – Early Childhood, Lower School, and Middle School.

"Om, this is fun!" Our PreK4 students enjoyed stretching, bending, breathing, and twisting their way through a yoga lesson provided by one of our parents.

“We are growing in math – exponentially!”Our 2nd graders tackling math problems in the hallway. At St. Philip’s, we believe any space can become the classroom. “A moment of science, please...”Our 5th grade students were completely focused as they learned about animal anatomy in Science class using a fetal pig.
