place at Tequesta Trace Middle School. The Cougars have shifted into a new block schedule where students will experience a “Maroon Day” and a “Gray Day” which will better prepare students for when they transition into high school. Students will have approximately 85 minutes in each class, and they will have four classes per day totaling to eight classes in all. This allows for students at the Trace to take a larger variety of electives, highlighting their passions and interests. In addition to Tequesta Trace rolling out the block schedule, a few new electives have been created. One of the most popular new electives is Marine Science. Students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves into the study of marine life and organisms and discover the world below the surface. There are a number of fun and engaging field trips in the works for students enrolled in this course. Some of the possibilities include snorkeling, a visit to the Frost Museum, and potentially experiencing shark tagging. Another great course added to Tequesta Trace is Forensic Science. Students are experiencing hands on activities and labs that showcase matters of science as they relate to criminal and civil law. Other electives offered at Tequesta Trace include Robotics, Film, Creative Media, Speech & Debate, Spanish I/II, Broadcasting, Latinos in Action,

Chess, Fantasy Fiction, Drama, Art, and Peer Counseling – just to name a few. Block scheduling is allowing Tequesta to bring more high interest courses to the schedule that appeal to the students and their potential future endeavors. The positivity does not stop there. The Tequesta Trace gym has received a makeover. New gym floors were installed over the summer. These floors are “bounce back” floors, making maneuvering on the floor more comfortable for athletes and students. The decals on the new floor highlight the Tequesta school spirit and capture the essence of the Mighty Cougars. As the year goes on, athletes playing volleyball and basketball will get to break in the new court flooring. Over the last few years, Tequesta Trace has been making major improvements to the school campus. A variety of murals have been painted throughout to add a touch of brightness, new carpet and paint has been completed to spruce up the media center in order to help make the space more inviting to students, new landscaping has been added by the PTA, and an outdoor classroom with bench seating and a chalk board has been added under a large shady tree. Currently, a new roof is being installed across the campus. More things are sure to come to Tequesta Trace Middle School, because it is true when they say that, “There’s no place like the Trace!” Tequesta Trace Middle School, Robert Rivera Principal, 1800 Indian Trace, Weston FL 33326.
