SPJST hosts virtual statewide youth competition

2020 SPJST Youth Showcase D

espite the COVID-19 outbreak cancelling SPJST’s seven annual District Youth Achievement Days and State Youth Achievement Day this year, the SPJST Youth Program continued to highlight its talented youth in a platform that delivered excitement to the participants and their families. In the first-ever SPJST Youth Showcase, youth registered entries in constructed items, individual talent, photography, pictorial arts, and royalty (public speaking) in June and early July. Judges scored the entries in the first round of competition, and the showcase of entries and results were posted at spjst.org. Each district’s first place finisher in the categories advanced to the final state round of competition which was judged in early August. The first place district royalty kings and queens met online to deliver their speech presentations and answer interview questions. State craft and talent entries and results were then posted at spjst.org. Royalty results were announced on Facebook Live on Saturday, August 15.

The youth who participated in the competitions worked hard to prepare their entries, and we are excited to highlight their extraordinary achievements on pages 12 to 19 of this week’s Vestnik and at spjst.org.
