Progress Continues At Lodge 39, Bryan Best of luck to all of you in the year of 1983 just beginning; may you all'be blessed and rewarded for your concern for your fellowman. No matter how much good we have done during 1982, we all need to strive to do much more during 1983.

With so many people unemployed and starving in this world, we need to and must share with others, this according to God's law and for our own happiness and peace of mind.

I want to thank all our members who helped during our Christmas Party December 18th. We had a

good turnout and everyone seemed to have a good time. Thank you, Renea, for your youth club participation; you had a very inspiring Christmas message. Thanks to Santa Claus for coming and passing out baggies to the children. I hope all of you received the things you wanted for Christmas.

Perhaps, you can also play the role of a coordinator, by showing the relationship of various scattered ideas and suggestions and indicating how they can all be welded into a program. You put what has been said in framework so that the best of the members' ideas might be used.

Such roles as these help the lodge carry on its tasks. To help build the lodge and maintain its activity in top form, you play other roles. You can be friendly, warm, responsive, and encouraging. You can agree when you hear constructive plans suggested. You can help these ideas become accepted. You can, as mentioned before, be a gatekeeper, who allows the silent members to participate. You can also remind the members of the standards, ideals, and purposes of the lodge.

One should believe that such roles are constructive and, in a sense, may be creative. As you study the problems of the lodge, you may also perceive other things. You can help the others evaluate the experiences the lodge has had in the past in meeting problems and situations.

You can contribute to the task of measuring achievements. You may also be a diagnostician, guessing, perhaps, at first, but trying to achieve an insight into the basic problems and difficulties. You can study the sources of difficulties; you may be able to put your finger on the unacknowledged blocks to progress.

Other important roles which are needed are a little more difficult to carry out. You can, for example, tentatively ask the lodge for opinions to find out how close the members are to agreement. You can test the group by expressing an opinion, just to find out the reactions of the others. You do this in order to move the discussion forward toward a decision. In some cases, someone is needed to narrow the area of conflict, harmonize points of view, and achieve compromises. Included in this role is the job of relieving tensions by compliments. It demands a resourcefulness in finding ways to alleviate tense situations when people seem to be on the verge of not speaking to one another.

There are many more roles than there are people, for so many personalities are adept at a variety of roles. In your own lodge, you may perceive roles not mentioned here.

You may, for example, find a person who is a little too obedient and willing, who seems intent on playing the part of a faithful servant. There may be many reasons for this.

The suggestions we would like to pass to you this week are ideas mainly intended as "seeds" to be implanted in your mind; rh-Opefully these seeds will grow as you think about and relate them to your own lodge and your own behavior.

As you think of these problems, you will realize that individuals can perform a variety of roles, and that it is often advisable and helpful for them to do so. It might be fun to discover what potentialities you possess. You may discover that you are able to perform a number of different tasks. As you experiment, you become more expert. They served as ticket chairpersons in 1980 and the first part of 1982, until both had ailments and resigned, after being hospitalized.

They attend lodge meetings and other activities.

Brother Marek is elected to a 3year term as a trustee and has served on the Board of Trustees before.

Brother and Sister Marek were very deserving of the award.

Dear Vestnik Readers, The Christmas Party was held December 15, 1982 by El CampoHillje Lodge 40.

The evening started with the installation of new officers by Supreme Lodge President Nick Morris. New officers installed were: President-James Kulcak, 1st Vice President-Benny Reck (also Building Committee chairman), 2nd Vice President Rita Vanek (also Entertainment Committee chairman), Secretary-Linda Rubesh, Financial Secretary-Bill Goerig, TreasurerLeona Macha, and Youth LeaderMargie Kulcak. We wish them all the best in the coming year.

We were happy to welcome SL President Nick Morris, District VI Director Matt Vanek and son to our meeting and hope to see more of them in the future.

Lodge 40 President James Kulcak was proud to honor three past officers, Jerry Polasek, Frank Sablatura and Albert Kresta, Sr., with awards for their many years of service. Their combined years as officers was well over 70 years of service to Lodge 40. They have all done a great job for Lodge 40 and we hope they will continue their support in the future.

Youth Club officers and members were introduced to the adult members and their families. We were so glad to see such a large group in attendance and wish them much success. Special thanks also to our youth club members and parents who made and decorated the hall; it looked great.

Following the meeting a wonderful Christmas dinner of turkey, dressing and all the trimmings was served.

Here is wishing all of you a happy holiday season and a prosperous and health new year!

Reminder of Lodge Attention Members 51 Meeting Of Lodge No. 66!!

This is to remind you that Lodge No. 51, in Ellinger, will hold its annual meeting Sunday, January 16th, at the Ellinger Fire Department Building, beginning promptly at 1 p.m.

The annual meeting of Lodge 79 was held Wednesday, December 8, 1982 at 7 p.m.

All officers, including honorary presidents Frank C. Sacky and John Stasa were present and ten members.

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag, followed by a silent prayer for our deceased members.

Minutes from the previous meeting were then read and aPproved, and reports from the treasurer and financial secretary were also given.

After the business meeting, at which time, it was voted to combine the secretary and treasurers office, election of officers was held.

The following officers were elected for 1983: President-Frank Veselka Vice President-Peggy Tepera Sec.-Treas.-Mack Munson Fin. Sec.-Milly Elzner Honorary Presidents-Frank C. Sacky and John Stasa.

The decision on appointment of a youth leader and flagbearer was tabled until the January meeting.

After the elections everyone was reminded to attend the joint SPJST, Sokol and SVPS Christmas party Sunday, December 19th.

Our next meeting will be held January 12th at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was then adjourned.

The door prize was won by Peggy Tepera.

Let us remember we are hosting the 1984 Convention and everyone's help will be needed so attend our meetings and get involved.

Dear Members: Lodge 66 will hold its first meeting of the new year Sunday, January 16 at Linden Hall in Elm Mott. The meeting will begin at 2:30 p.m., and the youth club will meet at 1 p.m.

Let one of your new year resolutions be: to attend more Lodge 66 meetings and take part in the business of your lodge.

Lodge 79 Corpus Christi Christmas Party The SPJST Lodge 79, Sokol Corpus Christi and SVPS joint Christmas party was held at 4 p.m.

December 19, 1982 at the SPJST 79Sokol Hall on Kostoryz.

The program began with a welcome from Sokol President Gene Lehnert, followed by a program by the gymnasts, under the leadership of Miss Donna Weirich.

The Czech Heritage Club singers then presented a group of songs in both Czech and English including a solo by Joe Hajek entitled, "Narodil se Kristus Pan." Many of this group are also SPJST and Sokol members.

The group included Al Prohaska, the leader, Mary Lou Pesek, the organist and Milly and Jerry Elzner, Della Elzner, Betty Sefcik, Annie Spencer, Peggy and Cindy Tepera, Adolph Sassin, Alice Kubala, Lillie and Joe Hajek.

Following the program short greetings were given by the presidents of each sponsoring organiz,ation. Then the children were grouped together and started singing "Here Comes SantaSlaus," until he appeared with his largt sack of goodies. All members filed past Santa and received their package.

There was a large number of members and guests in attendance, one being member Ed Gennette, stationed with the Navy in Rata, Spain and a guest for the holidays in the homes of his sisters-in-law and their families, Peggy Tepera and Anna Pesek.

The party ended after a delicious lunch. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

Temple Lodge Elects Officers SPJST Lodge 87 will hold their regular meeting Friday, January 14 at 7 p.m.

The Christmas social was held December 7 at 7 p.m. Turkey, sausage and all the trimmings were served to members and guests.

Our President Mary Powers thanked Esta Belle Hubenak and Marie Tesar for fixing the turkeys for Thanksgiving dinner.

First News Of 1983 From Lodge 88 The year 1982 has bid us good-bye and 1983 is staring us in the face with new plans and responsibilities concerning the lodge and our homes.

The lodge committee (as every year) will be planning the special dates for our annual entertainment calendar for the year in advance, and the ball will start rolling again and Lodge 88 will become busy as a beehive.

The year closed with our colorful and lovely NEW YEAR'S EVE DANCE Friday, December 31st with a full house to help us to ring in the New Year. It was a rainy night but that didn't keep the lovely dressed ladies with their handsome escorts from enjoying the good music of Donnie Wavra and the Hi-Liters; they please everyone. The orchestra members also looked special on the stage playing from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m.

At midnight hundreds of balloons were released from hanging to the ceiling into the open arms of the guests. All around good New Year wishes and kisses were exchanged by friends and strangers.

At the dance many out-of-town guests were attending this last dance of the year while visiting their relatives. Palmae and John Hilsher had houseguests, Detrait Roman (Palmae's brother) and wife, Alene, also cousin, Richard Arn and wife, Lillian, from San Saba, Texas.

Henry and Doris Knapik also entertained houseguests over the holidays; cousins Charles and Norma Knapik of Canadia, Oklahoma. The Hassenbrock's enjoyed cousins Marilyn and Jonnie Dyess of Mississippi who arrived on Christmas Eve and departed New Year's Day; enjoyed the hospitality of Karl and Ora Nell.

It was a special sight to see the Rudy Darilek clan at the New Year's Eve dance. Rudy and Celeste are two wonderful people to get together, all their eight children with their spouses to celebrate this special event. Seven are married and the last, Thomas, is still enjoying the home with his parents.

Seven live here, but Rose Marie flew in from Fresno, California to be with her parents, four sisters and three brothers. Rose Marie was handing out stickers with her New Year's

moment to visit. I read the article by Marge Crumbacker and was thrilled to claim Clarice as my friend; she is the daughter of Josephine Marik of East Bernard, Texas and daughter of the late John Marik. Clarice has two sons, John and Jim; both study abroad; one daughter of Fayette, Arkansas (married to Gregor Wolf) and daughter, Maurine of Dallas, Texas in real estate. When I talked to Clarice, she was packing to fly to Tampico to spend New Year's Eve. At the last social night last year Kathy Trefell had her Christmas gift in her arms and as happy as a lark; her son, Dusty, the famous wrestler and his wife, Michele, with 3-month-old daughter, Tiel Margarete Runnels, were here for the holidays. Kathy and Mike beamed all over. Your grandis beautiful.

Dear Members: Another year is upon us and may all have good days and be able to share them with others; sharing with family, friends, or strangers seems to make our lives richer.

I am sorry I have not written sooner, but with the holidays and such, I haven't sat down to write.

Our annual meeting brought good reports from all officers.

The following officers were elected for 1983: President-Evelyn Mikeska, Vice President-J. D. Moore, Secretary-Brenda Pike, Financial Secretary-Steve Duyka, Reporter-Edna Voldan.

I missed our Christmas Party so I will have to get the, details from other members; I know it was enjoyed by all who attended.

Our first quarterly meeting will be held Monday, January 31 at Charlie's Hamburger Joint on Blalock in Spring Branch.

Dear Members: Well, here it is seven in the morning, New Year's Day -- liquormortis has set in . . . and the only sound you can hear is the gentle bubbling of Bromo-Seltzer, AlkaSeltzer and Never again! Never again!

Here it is a new year, again, and everyone is thinking of how to reduce all of those bills that seem to get so big at this time of the year.

The best way I know of to do this is to put them on micro-film. I hope you had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and looking forward to a successful 1983, and may you members of Lodge 183 see another successful year with a lot of fun, entertainment and fraternalism and to see the new lodge building come closer to reality.

There was a large crowd at the New Year's Eve dance and everyone had a good time. The breakfast, after the dance, was very good and a special thanks to everyone who helped in preparing it.

One more reminder: Be sure to come to the first annual banquet and awards dinner for Saturday, January 22nd, 1983; happy hour at 5 p.m., Italian dinner at 6 p.m., and a dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., with the Shamrocks (country/western), no cover charge for dinner or dance and beer and set-ups will be available at the bar so BYOB. All the SPJST members remember to come to the annual German Faschings-ball (or Mardi Gras dance masquerade party). For those of you who were there the last two years know what fun it is, so come again and bring your friends.

Yours truly has to brag just a little. My son and his wife. Wayne and Janice Tolson, gifted me with a beautiful 6 lb. 14 oz. granddaughter named Ashlee Lynn. We will have a new lodge member.

I hope all of your holidays were as nice as mine. My sister, Opal Herrington from Cameron, Texas, visited me and we just spent our days visiting with each other. For the first time, my three children had all their family together for the holidays: my daughter in Florida, my oldest son in Corpus Christi, and Wayne here in Houston; my oldest son and his family will be transferred to California in March, so you know how I feel when I know they each have their own family together.

Round Rock Lodge 187 Members Enjoy Christmas Season The Round Rock Lodge 187 met December 12th for a regular monthly meeting which also included installation of new officers and board members and some Christmas surprises for the younger members.

President Oman opened the meeting with the Pledge to the Flag and welcomed everyone. Roll call showed all officers to be present.

12/VRSTNiK — 12. ledna 1983 the Christmas Holidays beginning with St. Nicholas Day, December 5th. It was very interesting to listen to his explanation. (Unfortunately, the tradition has more or less been discontinued in Czechoslovakia because of political reasons.)

Approximately 700 people took part in the celebration; leading the beautiful procession from the Social Hall to the church was the Czech Choral Club accompanied by the Wence Shimek Orchestra from Hallettsville, Texas; as they were marching to the church everyone was singing the beautiful song entitled, "Tisickrat pozdravujeme tebe." Flag bearers were Louis Jasek (carrying the American Flag), and Alvin Zidek (the Czech Flag).

A special recognition and blessings were given to all the couples who have been married 50 years or more. Beautiful corsages were given to the ladies. It was a breathtaking moment when the couples approached the front of the church, one at a time, to receive their blessings from the Bishop.

During the services the Choral Group sang "Mati pane presvata" and "Pojd' spasiteli." There were very few eyes that were dry at that moment. The songs that we were familiar with, in our younger times, still have quite an impact on ourselves and strengthens our Christian beliefs, also in our Czech Heritage and Culture.

After mass about 700 people took part in a dinner that was fit for a king. The fee was $5 per family and two covered dishes. The meat was furnished. Never in my life have I seen such a variety of food and so much of it. During dinner people were entertained by the San Antonio Czech Choral Club singing the many songs that most everyone knows or has heard, also the West Dancing Group from West, Texas entertained with their beautiful Czech dancing.

Before the afternoon ended, all the couples who celebrated their 50th and 60th anniversaries, were led in a grand march and leading them were Bill and Maxine Pavliska.

It was evident that the couples enjoyed it very much by the smiles on their faces. Wence Shimek Orchestra furnished the music for the rest of the afternoon.

The party ended at 6:30 p.m.

Comments from most of the people attending were very encouraging and the display of fraternization was superb. The project was so successful that arrangements have already been made for next year on St. Nicholas Day to be held in the La Villita Assembly Hall which will seat up to 1500 people. We are all looking forward to this date.

Brother Dan Pavliska, who is the president of the Czech Heritage and Culture Educational Fund, is to be highly commended for the efforts he displayed in promoting this Convergency Project in San Antonio. It was not a very easy task and it took many hours and days to put it together.

The Czech societies of San Antonio: KJZT No. 116, KJZT No. 38, KJT No. 102, SPJST No. 133, SVPS and RVOS responded very well in helping to make this project successful, as seen by the many members who were chairmen of various activities and others who helped in any way that they could; these members all volunteered.

Fortunately, the bylaws of all the societies require that projects that promote the Czech Heritage and Culture should be supported.

The behind-the-scenes crew was Paul Manak on lights, Paul Connermicrophones, Willie Bogie-props, Charles Pokladnik-tapes, Cathy Pokladnik, Sally Manak and Nikki Pokladnik-costumes and make-up.

Piano accompaniment was by Vicki Gerlich and our own little band gave a few musical interludes throughout the program. Band members were Eugene Reznik, Cheryl Hubik, Lisa Reznik, Joey Hubik, Michael Hubik, Stephen Reznik, Brandon Andreason and Tim Valenta.

We would like to thank all the leaders for their help with the program, especially Bessie Petr, Pat Pokladnik, Timpy Ondrusek, Joann Manak, and Pat Hubik for directing the kids and 'getting the act together'.

No Christmas would be complete without a visit from Santa and this year he even convinced Mrs. Claus to come along and help him pass out stockings of fruit and candy.

NEWS FROM LODGE 117 YOUTH CLUB Dear Readers, The Robstown Youth Club had a busy December; December 3rd we sent cookies and gifts to the Rest Homes; December 11th we had our regular monthly meeting and shopping trip; December 18th we saw the Nutcracker Ballet; and December 23rd we had a bake sale.

LODGE 39 BRYAN YC GOES CAROLING Dear Members, December was a busy month for our club. At our meeting we decorated the hall and practiced our program for the Christmas Party.

We also went Christmas caroling to Shut-ins in our lodge and had hot dogs to eat after going caroling.

Our Christmas Party was held December 18 and Santa came to see all of us. The program turned out good.

Happy New Year! I'll see everyone at our next meeting.

After the meeting several youth club members and adults went to Padre Staples Mall for their annual Christmas Shopping Trip.
