FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK institutions wherein the citizens in every walk of life could do his bit, build a useful career, and be assured of reasonable encouragement through justice. But the flag is still in the making, for our nation is ever in the making. The flag will be just what we make it. If it is to have no blots of injustice, divided allegiance, disloyalty, it will be because all of us are working to develop true Americanism. There is room for all under the flag who are willing to do their full part, with brave deeds as well as with lip service.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE "I pledge Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands. One Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for alt." Why do we love and honor the American flag? Because it stands for great principles. It has defended us in war and in peace. It is a symbol of high ideals, speaking with dramatic eloquence of the courage, the struggles, the integrity of men on many battlefields, on the seas, and in the air. The flag proclaims sacrifice,

ing, honer. Above all, we love our flag because it emphasizes in its stars and stripes true civil and human freedom, that liberty that makes the individual master of his destiny. The flag was adopted as our glorious banner because it seemed to bespeak beauty and simplicity. It seemed to point toward what our fathers were trying to obtain, a republic with free
The flag lives because what is right lives -- truth lives; honor lives. Those are not only inalienable, but they are indestructible rights in character. It is great to be true to the flag and its meaning.
