Hello Members/Supporters,

Another strong 6 months of trading has seen many highlights along with its challenges. Restaurant bookings have continued to be consistent and with staff resources becoming harder Australia wide, the Club has had to make some changes to accommodate Members/Supporters. As you’re aware Friday, Saturday and Sunday are only available to Members/ Supporters for bookings until 24hrs before. The trail seems to be working well while not impacting the trade. Head Chef Chris has been able to keep a strong team which has been a great support to front of house which has been dealing with sick staff.

The Club has once again hosted some excellent events such as “The Black Sorrows”, Oatley Wine Dinner, Power Boat and Sailing Presentations, Mother’s Day and several Sailing Events. Looking forward we have once again “The Black Sorrows”, Eagles Show, Melbourne Cup and don’t forget New Year’s Eve. Events are always booked out due to the size of the room so get in early once you see events released.

Sailing at all venues is starting to get back on track after some terrible weather. Qoin Sail Paradise is shaping up to be another great event with the organising committee well on track to deliver something special. Qoin Sail Paradise will now be a part of the “Summer of Sailing Series Australia” which is a combination of events with the support of Royal Queensland and Queensland Cruising Yacht Club. Whoever wins this series will definitely have some bragging rights. Sydney to Gold Coast had a return after 3yrs and what a great feeling the event had around the Club. We really did miss that event and the feeling of a Yacht Club!

One of my favourite areas of the Club is Dux, if you haven’t experienced Dux make sure you do. The Board have just installed a new generator and solar system along with P.C. Ken Tregeagle building a new walkway entry. Brian the caretaker continues to improve the site and is an asset to SYC. Marina still has a strong waiting list, focus is on filling the new Mega Yacht Berth which has been difficult due to the Queensland Borders being the last to open internationally. We should see Super Yachts closer to the end of the year but, as you have seen, we continue to place vessels on the berth when requested. The berth will be used over Sydney to Gold Coast and Sail Paradise each year, so come on down and see some racing yachts.

I would like to welcome the new Board and also thank Peter Brown for his hard work over the years. We also welcome Mr. Mat Belcher OAM to the position of Club Patron as voted at the AGM. Mat is an amazing ambassador for not only sailing, and the Gold Coast, but for your Club as well. Congratulations to all.
