Mega Yacht Berth Making Aussies Proud

The newest addition to the SYC facilities, our Mega Yacht wharf, has now been in operation for nine months, and is proving to be a very beneficial investment to Southport Yacht Club, the Gold Coast and Australia as a tourist destination.

In less than a year we have seen twenty-four Super Yachts use the berth as their destination whilst on the Gold Coast, refuelling, and purchasing local provisions. We have also seen this area utilised for functions and events, such as the Opening Cocktail Party in a social aspect, and the prestigious long running Sydney to Gold Coast Yacht Race in a competitive realm with the vessels berthing along the wharf.

Recently a seventy-metre commercial dredge was an impressive sight to see on the wharf, taking on fuel and provisions before heading out again, showing us that the word is getting out, whether it’s for travel or work, it shows us that the berth is being utilised by all facets of the Marine fraternity.

Southport Yacht Club is an official Customs Clearance marina, and as such the Mega Yacht Berth has been added as a clearance berth, complimenting the six Super Yacht berths that already hold that rating.

The overall infrastructure of the berth, with set up for drive on pontoons, and the service road for support vehicles to reverse down for ease of bunkering fuel to vessels, or load up on supplies, along with the 600-amp power which is the biggest in Australia, all have received great feedback from Captains and Crew, stating that it is the best berth set up they have been to, this testimonial includes feedback from two International Captains, who travel the world and say we are the best they have seen. The only issue we have now, is that since the word is out every Captain that contacts SYC to book a berth asks to be put on the Mega Yacht Berth, rather than any of the other berths within the Marina. It’s not such a bad problem to have!

The Club have not had any issues with the build of the service road, or the pontoons, this structure is something that should make our Members, MGN Civil and Superior Jetties, very proud of what they have produced, a real showcase facility that will be with us for many, many years to come.
