THURSDAY TWILIGHTERS TAKE ON THE NATION.......AND WIN!!!!

Three of our Thursday Twilight boats recently competed at the renowned Airlie Beach Race Week and did the Club proud.

The yacht Envy, recently purchased by Noel Hardy, took out top honours in its division at Airlie Beach. The previous owner, Michael Daly, passed away in January this year so his good mate Noel purchased the boat from Michaels estate. What a fantastic result for a yacht that has a special place in all of our hearts here at SYC. Another SYC yacht, B-52, owned and skippered

by Dan

Farmer finished 3rd in

the same division. Envy and B-52 were the ‘stand out’ yachts in their division and a quinella finish was only ruined

by both

boats having their worst races on the final day. anybody’s championship.

Glen Burrells Black Diamond finished

a creditable 5th in its division with Desperado and Mr Bojangles from our Hollywell Club joining Black Diamond by finishing 3rd and 6th respectively.

I’m sure all of the Thursday Twilight competitors are extremely proud to see their colleagues do so well on a national stage.

Our regular Document Solutions Thursday Twilight races resumed in June after

an enforced COVID break and its been magnificent ‘Spring-like’ sailing every

since. The prizes, supplied by Document Solutions and Wirra Wirra Wines, have been evenly spread across the fleet. In

this our abbreviated Winter series it’s still Fleet numbers are still very strong as the Document Solutions Twilights series continues to prove to be a favourite on the weekly calendar. Our final race for Winter is

September 24th. With a mere 1 week break, we’re straight into our Spring series on October 8th.

If you’re looking for any sailor on a Thursday afternoon, you

the water. know where we’ll be........on

See you out there.

Cheers, Ray McMahon

July saw the resumption ofmany activities after the easing ofcovid restrictions and it showed with great numbers in our monthly

motorbike ride.

Almost 20 bikes came on the ride which really shows there are many of us that have bikes hidden in the garage and look forward to a ride. Our July ride took us up through the Northern Gold Coast cane fields and out to Cabbage Tree Point for a 5 minute break. The magnificent ‘feel the serenity’ of Cabbage Tree Point turned our 5 minute stop into a 30 minute opportunity for us all to enjoy the ambience of this beautiful hidden gem. One of the best sights I’ve seen was looking in my mirror and seeing a line of motorbikes stretching over half a kilometre. From there we went to Yatala Pies for morning tea........and of course a famous Yatala Pie. Each month, our sponsors JSW Powersports give away a fabulous Cam-am spider (a 3 wheeled motorbike) for a day of the winners choice. It was excellent to see Bruce White win the prize. Bruce rode all the way from Dalby to join us for our monthly ride. A fitting result

for someone that put in such a big effort to be there.

After the prize draw and the pies we headed Southwest to Tamborine and back down the

mountain through Oxenford. The weather was magnificent and everyone enjoyed a fabulous day.

We had male riders, female riders plus a few couples on the same bike. Its great to see such a variety in participants. So, if you have a bike and would like to join us, regardless of what type of motorbike it is, we’d love to hear from you and welcome you on our monthly bike ride. We ride on the 3rd Monday of the month leaving Main Beach around 8am and returning around lunchtime. Its a great way to start the week.

I’ll see you on the road and remember......turn your fuel on!!!
