Commodore’s Report

Commodore Ken Tregeagle

Hello everybody,

As I sit here writing this article, the news is on TV, and the commentator is relating to today’s doom and gloom about the Corona Virus down south. We appear to be managing the problem well in Queensland, despite the actions of some.

Our Club is open again, albeit, in a controlled fashion, the new paintwork and deep cleaning have the Clubhouse looking fabulous thanks to our dedicated staff and management. I find it hard to believe the difference between how it felt presenting the online Club draws in an empty space compared to the warm feeling the same area has now with the return of members, and this proves to me that our Club is not the building however opulent it is but the warmth of our members and staff.

Now back to business! Our sailing calendar is ramping up to full capacity with the only restrictions still being social distancing, The Wednesday & Thursday Twilights are on again and being thoroughly enjoyed by all the regulars. Our Powerboat calendar for both the navigation and cruising divisions has been set and ready to go. Sail Past is still scheduled for the 12th of September at Main Beach, and The Breaking of the Flag at Hollywell on the 13th, COVID shutdowns permitting, what a tumultuous year to date!! Our Super Yacht Berth is now officially underway as the funds, leases and contracts should have all been”signed sealed and delivered” as they say, as you read this and only just in time, as I understand our Marina Crew have already accepted some bookings. What a great start!

I want to welcome Greg Forgan-Smith back to the Board. As you may know, Greg and Brett’s talented and tenacious work has been paramount in the Super Berth project, and it would appear they won’t be getting any rest soon as the preparations for our proposed new developments are to be worked through. Before the next issue of iN SyNc arrives our annual “Goodwill Cup” challenge against Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron will have been run in Moreton Bay. If you have a boat, Power or Sail, which can maintain five knots or more consider joining us for this event, especially if you have competed before. This is a Club event, and all boats and crews are welcome. We usually are outnumbered by RQ so your support would be of great value. Please don’t feel if you’re inexperienced that you will be a handicap to the Team, as the scoring system accounts for this. The challenge and the inter-club fun is why this event has now been held continuously since 1962, 59 years of competition. Contact either myself on 0408198923 or Peter Brown on 0419781770 for further information. I hope to see you at the Club or on the water.
