General Manager’s Report

This week the Megayacht Berth construction has started after 4yrs of planning. I still don’t think that you are all aware of what this berth will do for the Club but don’t forget it’s yours!!! This berth will be the largest in Australia, will change tourism on the Gold Coast along with placing Southport Yacht Club on a world scene. As you could probably feel I’m very excited about what this berth can provide Southport Yacht Club long into the future.

COVID continues to impact the World, which also affects the Southport Yacht Club. At this stage, the Club is still trading well, but we can’t get complacent as no one knows what the future holds. Functions were heavily impacted, and with the restrictions changing monthly, it makes it very difficult to plan ahead. The Restaurant is trading well, and thanks to you for your patience while we work out the best way to serve you all with the current restrictions. Table service has not been easy for the staff, and many more hours are needed in training what I have noticed is many more people joining the Club so there may be a silver lining within table service!! Sailing fleet numbers have been fantastic, and the Hollywell Bar has been pumping. Members couldn’t wait to get out on the water after a long break. There have been many achievements which will be in the sailing report, but I do want to mention the results the Club had at Airlie Beach Race Week. ENVY - Noel Hardy1st in Div. 1 Performance Cruising, B52 - Daniel Farmer 3rd in Div. 1 Performance Cruising, DESPERADO - Graham Sherring 3rd in IRC Rating Passage, BLACK DIAMOND - Glenn Burrell 5th in IRC Rating Passage, MISTER BOJANGLES - Michael Small 6th in IRC Rating Passage well-done team its great to see so many Club boats competing.

AGM was held in July and congratulations to new Commodore Ken Tregeagle and also Greg Forgan-Smith to a new Board position the next two years will be exciting for you both.

Fingers crossed for the future; the staffare focused on providing the best experience possible, see you around the Club soon.
