Year 7 and 8 stand out as truly remarkable years within the school experience!

As the pupils reach the pinnacle of their prep school journey, they relish the increased freedom, challenges, responsibilities, and independence that come their way. All of this unfolds within a nurturing and supportive environment where the fear of making mistakes or facing ridicule is virtually non-existent.

Year 7 Scholarships

Academic (STEM & Computing) The academic scholarship application process includes evaluations in both English and Mathematics, as well as a collaborative group assignment and a brief interview. If you are applying for a STEM or Computing specialisation, you will also undergo practical assessments in these specific fields.

Art The art scholarship application comprises a drawing task, practical activity, group project, and an interview where applicants discuss their recent artwork and passion for the subject, accompanied by a portfolio of work from the past two years.

Music The music scholarship involves auditions on multiple instruments, group tasks, and interviews. Candidates are expected to have at least Grade IV proficiency in their primary instrument and demonstrate a strong passion for music and a commitment to musical growth.

Year 7 Scholarships

Drama The drama scholarship requires an audition featuring a prepared piece, a workshop session, and a brief interview.

Applicants should showcase enthusiasm, a capacity to acquire new skills, and a deep passion for the subject.

Sport The sport scholarship includes physical assessments, team games, and interviews. Applicants must have county-level experience or potential in one or more major sports at South Lee Prep School, though other sports may be considered. Successful candidates will demonstrate commitment, motivation, and coachability in both assessments and interviews.

All Rounder These scholarships are granted to academically accomplished students with the potential to make positive contributions to various aspects of school life, such as sports, art, drama, or music. No separate assessment is conducted for this scholarship.

Scholarship Pathways

All scholarship recipients are enrolled in our "Scholarship Pathways," and pupils with interests in specific areas or contemplating applying for scholarships to their Senior school are expected to participate in our pathways.

Each pathway, led by the Head of Department, is tailored to challenge and assist each pupil. These approaches are personalised, operating within a formal framework but with a focus on avoiding undue pressure and fostering a love for their talent. Our goal is for children to excel in their chosen areas, and our approach is centred on mentoring and support. Benefits of the pathways programmes are set out on the following pages.
