The children have looked brilliantly smart and stylish in their cricket whites this term and have very much enjoyed their matches. We have already qualified for two county finals in tennis too which is mightily impressive, particularly for a small school like ours. Our riding girls also did themselves proud at Hickstead after much hard work and hours of training.
We started the term with our STEAM Engine openingwhichwasagreatsuccess.Itwasreally lovely to welcome so many parents on site to see what the pupils are lucky enough to enjoy dayindayout(althoughthegliderisn'talways ontheplaygroundIhavetoadmit!).
We ended the half term with exam weekpupils were well-equipped for their assessments and coped well with a mix of tests and the usual business of a prep school day includingrehearsalsforourupcomingmusical, Matilda.Thehighlightoftheweekwasthetrip to London for the older ones and Banham Zoo fortheyounger.

It was wonderful to welcome so many parents and friends of South Lee Prep & Nursery to the opening event for our new STEAM Engine. We were treated to a variety of STEAM activities whilst sampling nibbles cooked in the Food Technology room! There was plenty going on with coding and robotics in the Innovation Lab; electronics and Lego challenges in the Science Lab, mindful art projects, maths challenges in the wellbeing hub and fun in the new plant room. It was a fantastic evening - thank you to all involved.

Nursery Swans were lucky enough to visit the glider that was brought into school by Mrs T's father for our STEAM Engine Opening. They imagined what it would be like to fly in it as well as compare the wing span to other things they know about. Fantastic!
On Coronation weekend, we enjoyed a visit from King Charles. Mr M welcomed him to the school before he was taken on a whistlestop tour of the site by the children.
Despite the most dreadful weather just as we were about to start our celebrations, we had a wonderful (indoor) afternoon. Picnics were enjoyed in the hall, while games and activities were spread around the school so everyone could join in. There was face painting, lollies and candy floss too! One of the many highlights was the pupil entries to our sceptre and baking competitions (see the next page). Thank you to our wonderful PTA as always for their help and all the parents who joined in the fun.
The Year 7s produced some excellent Independent Project Qualification presentations this term. They all chose their own topics, worked on them for a few months with their mentor and then spoke to a classroom full of their peers and staff to present their work. We were incredibly proud of their efforts.
In the first week back, Year 3 and 4 were lucky enough to snag the hottest tickets in town - to attend the Suffolk Farm Fair. Pupils enjoyed learning about a variety of animals, taking part in sustainability workshops and meeting the Duchess of Edinburgh.
Nursery children and their families enjoyed a wonderful Nursery Fun Day. There was so much to do in the beautiful Forest School area and the cakes went down very well too!
Pupils in Pre-Prep and Lower Prep enjoyed a fabulous day out at Banham Zoo on the last day of half term.
On the same day, Year 6 & 7 enjoyed a trip to London. They visited Tate Britain first and then experienced a fantastic boat trip on the Thames!
Wednesday and Friday afternoons have been full of high quality cricket for both the boys and the girls.
We are very proud of three of our Year 6 girls who competed at Hickstead during half term.
This is an amazing achievement - well done!
