BRISTOL — After a latenight party that included beer and vodka, Eric Morelli threw a firework through a window at a Southington apartment complex hoping to get the attention of a friend with whom he planned to smoke marijuana, according to an arrest warrant unsealed Aug. 1. Kristen Milano, 19, died in the ensuing fire on June 22. Morelli, 18, was charged with manslaughter in the case. He is due to appear in New Britain Superior Court Sept. 4. Judge Robyn Stewart Johnson ordered the warrant unsealed Aug. 1, saying there was no reason to keep the document from the public, despite objections from MoSee Warrant / Page 3

Hartford HealthCare plans to close the emergency room at the Hospital of Central Connecticut’s Bradley Memorial campus and reopen it on Queen Street. The intended move was announced to hospital employees last week. Jose Perez, a Bradley employee and Connecticut Health Care Associates executive secretary, said he’s not sure about the impact to emergency room employees. Hartford HealthCare’s network includes the New Britain and Southington campuses of the Hospital of Central Connecticut as well as MidState Medical Center in Meriden and a number of other hospitals. Perez said the hospital would post its intent to file for a certificate of need from the state in area newspapers beginning this week. The hospital needs permission to close and reopen the emergency room from the state Office of Health Care Access. The hospital is also trySee Bradley / Page 3
