Warm weather brings hint of spring By Leigh Tauss Record-Journal staff
This week residents saw temperatures rise into the 70s, about 25 degrees above average for this time of year. Meteorologist Gary Lessor, of the Western Connecticut State University Weather Center, said temperatures started out between 50 and 55 degree and jumped up to 65 degrees as the week progressed. Wednesday and Thursday temperatures over 70 degrees were expected. Friday temperatures would trend back down to 55 degrees. Lessor said the warm temperatures Wednesday and Thursday will be about 25 degrees above average. The highest recorded temperature for March 9 was 72 degrees in 2000 and the high for March 10 was 70 degrees in 2006. See Weather / Page A2

Board hears views on fire, school funds By Jesse Buchanan Record-Journal staff
The Board of Finance heard from a handful of speakers concerning the fire department and the school system during its March 7 hearing on the 2016-17 budget. Town Manager Garry Brumback proposed a $50,071,218 town government budget for fiscal year 2016-17 that represents a 2.99 percent increase over the current year. The two major factors in the proposed increase are $2.2 million in debt service for the renovation of the two middle schools and road improvements See Funds / Page A7
