Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. One in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime and between 40-50% of people over the age of 65 will have at least one skin cancer. It can occur anywhere on the body and may be completely asymptomatic. Everyone should have a full body skin examination by a board-certified dermatologist once a year, more frequently if you or a first degree relative has previously been diagnosed with skin cancer.
