WELCOME: MOMENTUM PROGRAMME
HELLO. WELCOME TO MOMENTUM 2010! IT’S BRILLIANT TO BE HERE TOGETHER AND HAVE FIVE DAYS AHEAD OF US TO HANG OUT WITH GOD. We’ve lined up loads of stuff so take a good look through the programme to make sure you don’t miss anything! There’s a brand new live music venue (the Live Lounge) as well as old favourites like Café Uno and The Union. There are plenty of seminars looking at everything from relationships to dealing with addictions; plus sports, films, and cafes for your enjoyment too. But the thing we most look forward to is the stuff we can’t plan! It’s what happens when God’s people gather and take time out to meet with him. From the worship and ministry times in the Big Top to the seminars and conversations happening around site, we love that God meets with us and changes us to be more like him.
And of course our walk with God doesn’t end on Wednesday night! We want to keep pursuing God all year round so this year we’re launching a Soul Survivor Bible One Year. Not ‘cos we wanted to see the Soul Survivor name in print, but because we want to try and get loads of us reading the Bible at the same time. We know it can be a challenge for many of us to read God’s word regularly so we thought if we do it as a group we can spur each other on and hopefully reach the finish line together! If you’re up for the challenge you can find out more on page 59 or come and have a chat with the Soul Survivor team in the ToolShed. We hope you enjoy Momentum 2010 and our prayer is that you go away knowing Jesus more and feeling ready and equipped to serve him over the coming year.
LOVE FROM MIKE PAGE 2
MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: WHAT IS MOMENTUM?
WHAT IS MOMENTUM? WE KNOW THAT SOME OF YOU HAVE BEEN WITH US ON THIS SOUL SURVIVOR/MOMENTUM JOURNEY FOR A WHILE AND WE’RE VERY HAPPY TO HAVE YOU BACK WITH US! OTHERS OF YOU ARE NEW FACES TO US AND WE’RE VERY PLEASED TO MAKE YOUR ACQUAINTANCE! IF YOU’RE ONE OF THE NEWBIES YOU MAY NOT KNOW WHERE MOMENTUM CAME FROM SO, IF YOU’RE INTERESTED, ALLOW US TO FILL YOU IN… In 1993 an event called Soul Survivor was started by Mike Pilavachi. He’d been involved in the New Wine conferences and wanted to put on something that was aimed just at young people. Loads of teenagers came along and we had a blast meeting with God and learning together what it means to follow him in every day life. Then, over the years, those teenagers grew up (as people do). We realised we wanted
to do something to help equip Christians in the new challenges they were facing in their lives as twenty-somethings and so Momentum was born! The whole event is geared around helping you live for Jesus at work, at uni, down the pub, in your relationships and anywhere else you might be, so check out the rest of the programme to find out more and then get stuck in. We hope you have fun!

WE WANT TO KNOW IF MOMENTUM TICKS ALL YOUR BOXES SO PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK! We’ll have a little questionnaire on our website for a few weeks after you get home so please do tell us what’s working for you and what you’d like to see changed for Momentum 2011.
MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: THE BIG TOP
THE MAIN EVENT. WORSHIP. TEACHING. MINISTRY.
THE BIG TOP Times: Day 1: 7-9pm,
THERE ARE THREE THINGS WE REALLY LIKE TO DO WHEN WE GET TOGETHER AT THESE TIMES:
Days 2-4: 11am-1pm & 7-9pm,
Day 5: 10am-12pm & 7-9pm Location: The Big Top, Map Ref: G4
AS YOU LOOK THROUGH THIS PROGRAMME YOU’LL SEE THERE’S LOADS GOING ON AT MOMENTUM EACH AND EVERY DAY. ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS IS THAT TWICE A DAY WE ALL GATHER TOGETHER IN THE BIG TOP FOR OUR MAIN MEETINGS. PAGE 5
Our first priority as Christians is to love God and honour him. We can do that in our every day lives but the Bible also talks a lot about singing our praises to God so that’s what we do when we come together. Our worship times will be led by a band and will have one song after another to help us really focus on Jesus. The music may sometimes be loud and energetic but the point is to be intimate with God and give glory to him.
The Bible is one of the key ways God speaks to us so we want to make sure we take the time to listen to what he is saying. During every main meeting we’ll spend at a while looking into God’s word with the help of some speakers that we think have something relevant to say to us.
Hands up anyone who’s already perfect?! OK, so none of us are there yet and our ministry times give us an opportunity to come before God and ask him to work in us by his Holy Spirit. We want to look to God for our physical

and emotional healing, we need God to empower us so that we do things in his strength and not our own and sometimes we just need to stop and ‘be’ in God’s presence.
be around the Big Top during ministry times as well so you can ask them for any help if you need it.
These are just some of the reasons we make space to wait on God and see what he wants to say and do. If you’ve never been involved in ministry before then don’t worry, Mike and co will explain things as we go.
We love hearing what God is doing in you while you’re at Momentum so please do tell us! You’ll find pens, paper and a Testimony box on the stage in the Big Top or you can email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org .
We’ve also included some ministry guidelines (on page 69) to give you an idea of the basics of praying for each other. An experienced ‘Enabling’ team will
It doesn’t have to be anything huge and we’d love to hear stories from previous Momentum events too. Anything that glorifies God is good with us!
WE LIKE TO THINK OF THE BIG TOP CAFÉ AS THE ICING ON THE CAKE (THE CAKE BEING THE MAIN MEETINGS WHERE WE ALL GET TO HANG TOGETHER AND WORSHIP JESUS!) Before and after each morning and evening meeting the Big Top Café is open to serve you a fresh cup of coffee and even a cheeky pastry. It’s not only about refuelling but about giving you another chance to catch up with friends and process some of the things God is stirring in you. (By the way the Big Top Café team have found some Espresso machines this year so you can get the potent caffeine fix of a supersize mug without the trips to the toilet!)
MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: THE CHAT ROOM & L:ATE NIGHT WORSHIP
CHAT ROOM Times: Day 2-5: 2.30pm-5.30pm Location: The Chat Room, Map Ref: F4
REAL LIVE, FACE-TO-FACE, ACTUAL CHAT USING VOCAL CHORDS AND EVERYTHING WITHOUT A COMPUTER IN SIGHT, BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT’S GOOD TO TALK ABOUT STUFF. That ‘stuff’ can be whatever you want it to be – issues you’re facing in your life, questions you have about your faith, things you’re confused or worried about. Anything. You can even fall back on the old English staple of the weather. Listening ears and cups of tea are available every afternoon.
LATE NIGHT WORSHIP Times: Day 1-5: 10.30pm-11.30pm Location: Late Night Worship, Map Ref: G4
HOSTED BY THE REND COLLECTIVE
Smaller and more informal than the main meeting, Late Night Worship is a great chance to end the day soaking in God’s presence. Each night will be led by the brilliant Rend Collective Experiment.
THE FURNACE: MOMENTUM PROGRAMME
“NO EXPECTATIONS OR AGENDAS”
THE FURNACE Times: Day 1: 9.30pm-11.30pm Day 2-5: 1pm-6pm & 9.30pm-11.30pm
Location: The Furnace, Map Ref: F4
THINGS YOU WANT TO TALK TO GOD ABOUT? THIS IS THE PLACE TO COME. There are no expectations or agendas, just some time, space and helpful tools to help you have a conversation with God about whatever you want, for however long you want.
MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: CAFE UNO
CAFÉ UNO Times: Day 1: 9pm-midnight, Days 2-5: 1pm-6pm & 9.30pm-midnight Location: Cafe Uno, Map Ref: F4, (this is an all new location)
BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER BEFORE, CAFÉ UNO IS LIVIN’ IT LARGE AND INVITING YOU TO JOIN IN THE MAYHEM! YOU KNOW YOU’LL LOVE IT BECAUSE CAFÉ UNO IS A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN’T HELP BUT HAVE FUN. The day-time vibe is more laid back than a sun-lounger in Crete so pull up a chair, sip a coffee and catch up with your mates. There’s no time for chilling out in the evenings though with the legendary ‘Our Dad’ back in town! Acting as our resident jazz-funk band, they’ll be kicking out tunes so tasty you’ll find yourself busting out moves you didn’t even know you had.
NEW FOR 2010! CAFÉ UNO HAS GONE AND GOT ITSELF A BAR – WOOOO! You’ll still be able to get your favourite hot chocolate mountain and slice of goey cake-goodness but now you’ll also be able to choose a pint, a glass of wine or a spirit if you’d rather, which is all very nice and civilised!

AND YOUR HOST IS...
DJ Olly Palmer is the man at the helm, and his sole purpose is to spin tunes that will make you smile and move your feet. So hit the dance floor and revel in the unashamed poptastic sounds or grab a drink and sing-along from a safe distance. Either way, Olly won’t mind, he might even take your requests if you ask nicely!
THE LIVE LOUNGE: MOMENTUM PROGRAMME

BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT? ‘COURSE IT HAS! WE KNOW THERE’S A BUCKET LOAD OF TALENT RIGHT HERE IN THE FIELDS OF SOMERSET AND WE DON’T NEED SIMON COWELL TO PROVE IT.

Well she was right and she meant your talents as well as your sweets, so we’ve come up with this brilliant new venue where you can share the songs you love with the rest of us! Sign yourself up for the Open Mic slot and we’ll all cheer you on as you show us what you’re made of. Brilliant!
Our friends [dweeb] are hosting the Live Lounge so pop along and check out their music (they promise it comes with a industrial dose of sonic optimism!) There will also be special guest performances from incredible singer/songwriter Lee Mitchell and hilarious acoustic hip-hop trio The Austin Francis Connection.

They’ve also done their homework about how you can get involved in God’s mission and there will be info points dotted around the café for you to peruse at your leisure. There’s no hard sell here – you can soak up the chilled out atmosphere from the comfort of a huge pile of cushions and know that even the mere act of drinking your fairly-traded espresso is helping bring a little of God’s kingdom to earth.

MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: SOUL ACTION IS NOT FOR SALE
SOUL ACTION IS NOT FOR SALE NO ONE SHOULD BE FOR SALE – GOD CREATED US TO BE FREE. BUT MILLIONS OF PEOPLE IN OUR WORLD ARE TRAPPED IN POVERTY AND POVERTY MAKES SLAVES OF PEOPLE. TWO-THIRDS OF PEOPLE LIVING IN THE WORLD DON’T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY FOR THE BASICS WE CAN TAKE FOR GRANTED LIKE FOOD, SHELTER AND CLOTHING. THOUSANDS DIE NEEDLESSLY EVERY WEEK FROM PREVENTABLE DISEASES AND HUNGER. MILLIONS DON’T HAVE ACCESS TO EDUCATION AND TRAINING WHICH WOULD BREAK THEM OUT OF THE CYCLE OF POVERTY. These are all people God loves and we want to remind our government that they can do something about the extreme poverty around the world. So, join us and add your face and name to our ‘Not For Sale’ campaign. Come to our stand in the ToolShed to have your photo taken and show the world you care about ending poverty.
WHAT YOU’VE ALREADY DONE...
“NO ONE SHOULD BE FOR SALE – GOD CREATED US TO BE FREE”
Last year some of the money you gave in the Soul Survivor offering went towards supporting Soul Action projects in South Africa. Those funds have been helping school students pass their exams and find employment; to mentor young people from deprived areas; and to mobilise the church to work more effectively in their communities.
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO? MAKE A VIDEO!
We want to find out how God is using you to live out his mission. Make a short video explaining what God’s mission means for you and you could be in with a chance of winning a MacBook or a Flip Video Camera. Find more details, including a helpful guide to making your vid, at www.soulaction.org/video

Soul Action is a partnership between Soul Survivor and Tearfund which has been going since 2006. God is passionate about his people seeking justice and helping those in poverty so Soul Action is about helping us all get stuck in to that!
MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: THE TOOLSHED
THE TOOLSHED Times: Day 1: 9pm-11.30pm, Days 2-5: 1pm-5.30pm & 9.15-11.30pm Location: The Toolshed, Map Ref: F4
THE TOOLSHED IS SO BIG THAT THE ROUGH GUIDE WERE PLANNING ON GIVING IT ITS OWN VOLUME. Sadly they were so overwhelmed on their last visit that they had to take themselves off to Thailand sharpish for a break. Because, you see, this isn’t any old shed, it’s actually the world’s greatest resource centre disguised as a shed. Brilliant eh? In here you’ll find loads of resources (like books, CDs, DVDs) that will encourage you in your relationship with Jesus. There are also lots of brilliant organisations with info on things like year out programmes and missions and stuff so take your time browsing and chatting to those in the know.

YOU CAN’T GET MUCH WITH 30P THESE DAYS CAN YOU? Actually in The Office you can! For just thirty of your very hard earned shiny silver (or copper) pennies you’ll get 15 whole minutes online doing whatever you want. Can’t say fairer than that guv.

VIEWS FROM THE EIFFEL TOWER AND THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO THE SIGHTS YOU’LL SEE PERCHED ON THE TOOLSHED’S MEZZANINE FLOOR, SUPPING YOUR TEA AT THE COMPASSION CAFÉ.
THE TOOLSHED IS THE ONLY PLACE ON SITE WHERE WE LET PEOPLE MARKET ANYTHING TO YOU SO WE’RE PRETTY PROTECTIVE ABOUT THE WAY THEY DO IT.
It’s a great place to form your plan of attack for the many stands you’ll want to visit and to find out how you can break the cycle of poverty for a vulnerable child through the brilliant work of Compassion.
Everyone who has taken a stand in the ToolShed has been asked to treat you with respect and if you feel they aren’t (i.e. they are pushing an agenda or product at you) come and let us know at Information.

MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: SPORTS
SPORTS Time: Day 1: 9.30pm-11.30pm, Days 2-5: 1pm-6pm & 9.30pm-11.30pm Location: Indoor Sports, Map Ref: E4
GOT YOUR KIT? GOOD, LET’S GO! THERE’S SOMETHING FOR EVERY SPORTING TYPE FROM THE SERIOUS FIVE-A-SIDER TO THE CASUAL ‘I’M IN IT FOR THE LAUGHS’ IT’S A KNOCKOUT CONTESTANT...
The Dutch know how to do more than just make Heineken you know. They invented Panna football so you can show your amazing skills playing one-on-one in a cage. Fast and furious games are over in 3 minutes or less if you manage to complete the allconquering nutmeg.
It wouldn’t be Momentum if you couldn’t compete for the coveted prize of five-a-side champion. There’s no jumpers for goal posts here, so get your team sorted early to avoid missing out on a place as they really do mean it when they say you have to be in it to win it. Starts Day 2.
Nathan Scott got nothing on you? Prove it in the only place that matters: the court. Comp on Day 5.
SPORTS CAFE Times: Same as Indoor Sports
To say ultimate Frisbee is highly energetic is like saying Simon Cowell has a bit of spare cash. Throw yourself in and enjoy the fun from Day 3.
A game invented by giants, hence the oversized net. They key to the whole thing? We’ll let you into a secret; Spike. Dig. Grunt. Repeat as necessary. Starts Day 3.
Location: Indoor Sports, Map Ref: E4 Not interested in breaking into a sweat? Grab a seat and some refreshing liquids at the Sports café and commentate on the action John Motson style. (Big sheepskin coat optional).
SOUL ACTION FUN RUN & IT’S A KNOCKOUT: MOMENTUM PROGRAMME
SOUL ACTION FUN RUN
IT’S A KNOCKOUT
Time: Day 4: Warm-ups from 5.15pm for a 5.30pm start
Time: Day 4: 2pm-4pm
Location: Sports ring, Map Ref: F4
Location: Sports field, Map Ref: F4
WHAT MAKES THIS RUN SO FUN? WHERE SHOULD WE START?!
It’s just two miles so achievable for even the most gymintolerant of us
You run it with your mates so there’s always someone to laugh at. Sorry we mean with.
You can dress up in any manner you like – the funnier the better!
The best thing about the run that they call Fun? It’s for charity! Yep, every time you put one foot in front of the other you’ll be raising vital cash for brilliant Soul Action projects.
DRAGGED KICKING AND SCREAMING FROM A SEVENTIES TIME-WARP, ‘IT’S A KNOCKOUT’ COMBINES GAMES FROM THE CLASSIC TV SHOW WITH THE BEST BITS OF OLDSKOOL SPORTS DAYS. Take on other villages and compete to see who’s the best at carrying a chicken on their head over an oiled log while having water bombs lobbed at them (or something).
You can sign up at the Soul Action stand in the Toolshed where the lovely team will give you a running number (snazzy) and a very formal form to record the pledges your friends make to see you complete the run. You can hand your sponsorship money back in onsite too!
MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: CELLULOID
CELLULOID WATCHING CATCH UP TV ON YOUR IPHONE STRESSING OUT YOUR EYES? COME AND SEE FILMS THE WAY GOD INTENDED THEM ON A BIG, BIG SCREEN. Celluloid offers all the joy of your local multiplex without charging you a day’s wages for the privilege. Bring a jumper to sit on and a vat of popcorn!
Times: Day One: From 9.30pm War veteran Jake goes to Pandora with the military to earn the money for a vital operation to restore the use of his legs. But when he explores the planet, meets the natives and finds himself falling in love, it becomes harder for him to stay on board with the mission. 162 Minutes
ALICE IN WONDERLAND
Times: Day Two: From 10pm Known for his ‘quirky’ (i.e. entirely mental) films, Tim Burton brings Alice’s story back to the big screen with the help of a brilliant cast and a set of bonkers characters. The plot focuses around Alice having to slay a Jabberwocky to free Underland from the control of the Red Queen but the fun lies in the fantastic animation. A visual feast you’ll surely love... or just be confusd about for a few hours! 108 Minutes
CELLULOID: MOMENTUM PROGRAMME
THE YOUNG VICTORIA
Times: Day Three: From 10pm Life wasn’t easy for little Vicky. After an isolated childhood she became Queen at just 18 and this film depicts that time, chronicling how she met her dashing Prince (because all Princes are dashing) and how he influenced her reform of the monarchy. It’s a bit like a history lesson only much more fun because history lessons we went to never involved Emily Blunt and Miranda Richardson (unless you count Black Adder, which may not have been that historically accurate). 105 Minutes
Times: Day Four: From 10pm Bliss is dealing with a whole heap of small town American misery when she comes across a Roller Derby and finds a new passion in life. This film proves that when you combine sport, the brilliant Ellen Page and a motto to be your own hero, you can’t really go wrong! 111 Minutes
500 DAYS OF SUMMER
Times: Day Five: From 10pm Boy meets girl but with a twist. This girl (Summer) doesn’t believe in love, romance and all that stuff and this boy (Tom) has fallen head over heels for her regardless. The story jumps backwards and forwards from their first meeting to their break-up to an unusual reunion. The critics weren’t lying when they said this film is fresh, honest, funny and an anti-dote to Hollywood’s formulaic rom-coms – it’s brilliant! 95 Minutes
MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: KIDS WORK
KIDS WORK Times: Day 1: Registration, 5pm-7pm, Days 2-4: 10.45am -12pm, Day 5: 10am-12pm (to allow for Communion) Locations: Creche (0-2s), Map Ref: G4, Pebbles (3-4s), Map Ref: G4, Rockets (5-11s) Map Ref: G3

Children will also be signed in and out for additional security. Children aged 10-11 can leave sessions unaccompanied if you let us know this is your preference at registration.
FREETIME @ ROCKETS (FOR FAMILIES WITH KIDS OF ALL AGES) Times: Days 2-5: 3.30pm-5.30pm, Location: Rockets, Map Ref: G3 Bring your children along for a relaxed drop-in session where you can sit down and grab a cup of tea whilst your off-spring enjoy the toys, crafts, cartoons and films on offer.

To try and help we can provide baby baths, warm water and a dry place for you to bathe your little one. Please bring your own toiletries, a towel and a baby. This service is located in a building on Yellow 3.
We want to welcome and include all children and accommodate their particular needs, wherever possible. If your child has additional needs that we would benefit from being aware of, then please do speak to the kids team leader at the first available opportunity.
KIDS WORK: MOMENTUM PROGRAMME
MOVIE NIGHT FOR THE LITTLE ONES Times: Days 1-5: 7pm-8.30pm(ish), Location: Celluloid, Map Ref: G3 At 7pm every night we’ll show a kids film in the Celluloid venue. One adult can accompany up to four children (and for obvious reasons children can’t be admitted alone). All movies are U rated and are around an hour and a half long.
THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG
The classic Frog Prince story gets a twist when the kiss doesn’t turn the frog back into a human. Instead the Princess gets turned into a frog, creating 90 minutes of all singing, all dancing Disney fun. DAY ONE
A billionaire is planning to take over the world. Who can stop him? A crack squad of guinea pigs seem to be the best bet! Who said heroes have to be big? DAY TWO
Carl’s adventure starts at the age of 78 when he launches his house into the air thanks to a big bunch of balloons. Stowaway 8 year old Russell joins him for the trip of a lifetime as they encounter some wondrous sights! DAY THREE
CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS As far as inventions go, a machine that turns water into food is pretty cool. But if that machine ends up in space, the result could be chaotic. Weird and wonderful fun from the talented Pixar team. DAY FOUR
ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: THE SQUEAKQUEL The Chipmunks are back! Putting aside their music superstardom they set out to win the battle of the bands to save their school. Easy? Not with the Chipettes around... DAY FIVE
MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: SEMINARS
SEMINARS THERE’S SO MUCH TEACHING TO GET STUCK INTO HERE AT MOMENTUM IT CAN BE PRETTY TRICKY TO KNOW WHERE TO START. BUT FEAR NOT! WE HAVE A CUNNING PLAN... ALL THE SEMINARS HAVE BEEN DIVIDED INTO THREE STREAMS: UP, IN AND OUT. UP
The UP stream is about our communication with God, so you’ll find seminars around worship, prayer and the Bible will be in here.
IN deals with what’s going on inside, looking at areas like past hurts and healing, developing our gifts and honing our character
The OUT stream looks at how we outwork our faith in the world around us with things like evangelism, serving the poor and standing for justice.
DAY PLANNER: DAY ONE: MOMENTUM PROGRAMME
DAY ONE SATURDAY 21ST AUGUST
THERE ARE NO SEMINARS TODAY AS YOU’LL NEED SOME TIME TO SET UP CAMP.

Uwiragiye and Nzabahimana, Compassion sponsored children, Uganda
Uwiragiye and Nzabahimana We are twins. Our parents died some years ago so our sister looks after us. She’s 20 years old and has a baby of her own. We go out and gather firewood so she can cook for us, but sometimes there is no food to eat. That’s why we are glad we go to the Compassion project where we know we will be fed and can play with other children. We also love to sing songs. For less than 70p per day you can help children like Uwiragiye and Nzabahimana to receive education, healthcare, food, clothing and the opportunity to hear about the transforming love of Christ.

MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
GET STUCK INTO THE BIBLE! THE BIBLE IS FULL OF BRILLIANT STUFF! LOADS OF US WOULD AGREE WITH THAT SO WHY DO WE STRUGGLE TO ACTUALLY READ IT SOMETIMES?! THIS SEPTEMBER WE WANT TO TRY SOMETHING NEW: AS A SOUL SURVIVOR FAMILY WE WANT TO READ THE WHOLE OF THE BIBLE OVER ONE YEAR. WE FIGURED IF WE DO IT ON OUR OWN WE MIGHT JUST GET DISTRACTED AND FIND REASONS TO STOP EVERY NOW AND THEN BUT HOPEFULLY TOGETHER WE’LL SPUR EACH OTHER ON AND STAY THE DISTANCE!
“...BUT HOPEFULLY TOGETHER WE’LL SPUR EACH OTHER ON AND STAY THE DISTANCE!”
We’re launching a Soul Survivor Bible in One Year so we’ll all be working on the same readings and we’ll have a website running alongside it where we can talk about the things we’re reading and share our thoughts and questions. There will also be commentaries on there from the likes of Mike, Andy and others to try and help us make sense of what God is saying to us. It’s the first time we’ve ever tried this as a big group and we’re really excited about all getting back together next summer and seeing how much difference committing to God’s word has made to our walk with him. It only takes 15 minutes a day to read the whole of the Bible in 12 months so how about getting involved and joining in the challenge? You can buy your copy at our stand in the ToolShed or online at shop.soulsurvivor.com for £9.49 (paperback) or £12.49 (hardback). SEMINAR & MAIN STAGE RECORDINGS: MOMENTUM PROGRAMME
SEMINAR & MAIN STAGE RECORDINGS WHAT’S THE MOST COMMON QUESTION PEOPLE WHO COME ALONG TO MOMENTUM ASK? NOPE, IT’S NOT ‘HOW OLD IS MIKE PILAVACHI?’ (HE’S EIGHTY TWO IF YOU’RE INTERESTED). FROM OUR EXTENSIVE RESEARCH IT’S MORE LIKE ‘OH NO, I MISSED AN AWESOME SOUNDING SEMINAR. GUTTED. IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN HEAR OR WATCH IT?’. We’ve all been there. You might just have overslept and missed a seminar, or had to make an impossible choice between two great sessions. So what do you do? Well, if you find yourself in this predicament we’re here to help. And so is technology. Every year we record all the seminars so you can buy audio copies of any sessions that you’ve missed. But there’s more. This year we’re also filming all the seminars too, so barring a few (very likely) technical glitches, we will also be able to offer DVDs of the complete seminar timetable too.
WHERE DO I GET THEM FROM?
Firstly you need to decide what seminar you’d like to hear. Flick through the descriptions in the Day Planner. At the bottom of each entry you should find a little number starting 0600* or for the main meetings 0610*. Just remember that number and do one of the following:
WHILST AT MOMENTUM:
Pop along to the ToolShed and head over to the Soul Survivor area. If you chat nicely to one of the team behind the tills they’ll help you in either buying an Audio CD or a video DVD of any of the talks. We’re aiming to have the CDs and DVDs of sessions available by the end of the week (depending on how good our technical skills are), so you should be able to pick up any session to take home with you. If not, you can order the session and we’ll send it out to you in the post (by end of September). Costs for CDs are £2 and DVDs £4.
WHEN YOU’RE BACK HOME:
Get online and head to www.soulsurvivor.com/uk/shop. Our nice, new and shiny online store has a whole array of things from music to hoodies, as well as all the talks from Momentum 2010! You’ll also be able to order any of the talks as mp3s or movie downloads too hopefully from the end of September or early October. Exciting eh?
MAIN MEETING CODES:
Day 1, PM: 06101 Day 2, AM: 06102, PM: 06103 Day 3, AM: 06104, PM: 06105 Day 4, AM: 06106, PM: 06107 Day 5, AM: 06108, PM: 06109
MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: THE OFFERING
THE OFFERING AT ONE OF OUR MAIN MEETINGS IN THE BIG TOP WE WILL TAKE A COLLECTION TO HELP SUPPORT THE FOLLOWING CHARITIES AND CAUSES: SOUL SURVIVOR (50%)
Hang on a minute, that’s us! We don’t really like asking you for money but... there are loads of things we’d love to do as a charity that we don’t have the resources for. Our income has fallen over the last year and that has meant we’ve had to scale back and cancel various events like our roadshows and a Soul Sista tour. We’d love to do all the things God has given us a passion for to support and equip young people in their faith. If you’d like to help us then please do give to the collection or visit www.soulsurvivor.com/uk/give to find out how you can give to Soul Survivor on a more regular basis (you might be able to give through your work Payroll).
THE OTHER 50% OF THE COLLECTION WILL BE SPLIT BETWEEN: XLP
XLP who do amazing work fighting poverty, supporting education and serving hundreds of young people and their families weekly in inner London. Find out more about them at www.xlp.org.uk
THE PERSECUTED CHURCH
We’re in contact with a number of churches and Christians who are persecuted for their faith and want to do all we can to support, encourage and equip them to keep living for Jesus.

MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: WHAT SOUL SURVIVOR THINKS ABOUT YOU
WHAT SOUL SURVIVOR THINKS ABOUT YOU CARDS ON THE TABLE: WE THINK YOU’RE GREAT!
No one should push their views on you and if you feel that they are, we’d love you to come and tell us about it so we can sort the situation out (just pop into Information and have a chat with one of the team).
WE WANT MOMENTUM TO BE A PLACE WHERE YOU FEEL VALUED AS AN INDIVIDUAL, RESPECTED AND ACCEPTED SO WE’RE VERY PROTECTIVE OVER YOU AND WHAT YOU COME INTO CONTACT WITH WHILE YOU’RE ON SITE. That means we won’t let anyone sell anything to you outside of our ToolShed venue and all the people in there have been vetted by us so we know they’re not going to try and hard sell you anything dodgy.
“WE WANT MOMENTUM TO BE A PLACE WHERE YOU FEEL VALUED AS AN INDIVIDUAL, RESPECTED AND ACCEPTED”
In the main meetings Mike & co may tell you about a charity, book, CD or other resource but they will only do that if it’s something they truly believe will benefit your relationship with God. They’re not getting paid to say it!
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF US? We hope this affection we have for you is a two-way street but we’d love to hear from you whatever you think! You can tell us about your Momentum experience using our online questionnaire at:

MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: MINISTRY TIMES
MINISTRY TIMES ONE OF THE THINGS WE’RE REALLY PASSIONATE ABOUT AT SOUL SURVIVOR IS MEETING WITH GOD. DURING THE MAIN MEETINGS AND CELEBRATIONS WE WILL ALWAYS SEEK TO INVOLVE GOD, BY HIS SPIRIT, IN WHAT IS GOING ON. IN REAL TERMS THIS MEANS THAT THERE IS OFTEN A CALL FORWARD FOR PRAYER. THIS IS A SPECIFIC TIME TO LET GOD ‘MINISTER’ TO US – THAT IS TO WORK ON AND DEAL WITH THINGS IN OUR LIVES. Don’t worry if you’ve never had prayer offered in this way, or if you’re not sure how to pray. We have an experienced ‘Enabling Team’ about who will be around to give you a guiding hand, plus there’s a whole bunch of seminars on the Holy Spirit and praying for others too, so get along to one of them. There is no ‘right way’ to pray for each other. However, we’ve included these guidelines as they are tried and tested and tend to work quite well.
While you’re with us please stick to the advice given.
SO, WHAT HAPPENS?
Ministry times usually begin with an invitation from someone on the main stage for people to respond to the Holy Spirit. In praying for people, the most important thing to remember is that this is God’s work, not ours. We are there to encourage those seeking God and to bless what the Holy Spirit is doing in people. God can use any of us to help people meet with him, but we’ve found that some of this common sense stuff is useful in making sure we don’t get in God’s way when we’re praying for others.
SEX: Only pray for someone who shares your gender. Prayer ministry can bring up all sorts of stuff and so it’s a tried and tested principle to always have at least one person with you who shares the same physical bits as the person you’re praying for. Even if you’re married we’d ask you to bear this in mind to avoid any confusion for others around you. Thanks.
MOUTH: Don’t be afraid to ask someone what they would like you to pray for and what God is doing – even if the Holy Spirit is moving powerfully on them (in Luke 18v40 Jesus asks the blind man ‘What do you want me to do for you?’). However, be aware of not turning this into a long conversation, this is a time for the Holy Spirit to offer counselling, not you! If appropriate speak into the situation or condition in Jesus’ name, be sensitive and recognise that you may be wrong. If you have a prophetic word or picture, offer these as a prayer or in such a way that the person being prayed for can make their own decision as to how appropriate they are. Never insist that what you have to say is a word from God but seek to build up, comfort and encourage the person you’re praying for (1 Corinthians 14v3).
HANDS: Encourage the person to receive from God and be still, rather than pray for themselves. Some people may show this attitude by opening their hands in front of them. You can also lay your hands on them (if they are comfortable with that). This can be helpful for the person being prayed for and it’s Biblical, especially with
MINISTRY TIMES: MOMENTUM PROGRAMME
regards to healing (in Mark 1 v40-45 Jesus heals a man of leprosy), or as a blessing (in Matthew 19v13-15 Jesus blesses the children). Be sensitive about where you place your hands.
EYES: Keep your eyes open when you pray for someone. This means you are more aware of what God is doing and how the person is responding. It also means you can be prepared if they look like they may fall over in the power of the Spirit. If this does happen then please make sure they are in a comfortable position, not draped over anyone else and that their dignity is maintained (i.e. nothing is on show that shouldn’t be). Stay with them as long as needed and encourage them to go on receiving from God. It is not always necessary to stay with the person you have prayed with but keep a watchful eye on them and continue to check that they are safe.
EARS: Listen carefully both to the person you are praying with, and to God. Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and encouragement, be prepared to wait, this is God’s work, not yours. The person you are praying for may tell you about things that have happened in their life. Don’t appear to be shocked by any disclosures. Remember that confidentiality is of the utmost importance but DO NOT promise to keep anything secret (especially with regards to claims
of abuse). Your first contact in such a situation should be a member of the Enabling Team. They are there to support you, and the person you are praying with and will be able to take things further if necessary.
THE WHOLE BODY: Allowing the expression of feelings is very important and this might mean people cry, shake or respond in other ways to what God is doing. This is totally cool, but be careful not to suppress or to build up the situation. Alternatively some people might not seem to respond physically at all. That’s fine too. We want God to do what he needs to do and not get in the way of that and make sure people leave a time of ministry feeling loved and valued.
Not everyone is familiar with ministry and prayer times and some people are fearful when they become aware of God working through the Holy Spirit. We need to help people who are receiving, to feel comfortable and safe, and to encourage them to reach out to God. Always be sensitive and respectful, keep in mind how you would like to be prayed for and constantly ask for God’s help no matter how you are praying. Reassure those being prayed for that God has heard sincere prayers and the cries of our hearts and encourage them to expect answers. Speak healing, peace and
release in the name of Jesus and remember the place of repentance, forgiveness and being forgiven. If a request is made for further ministry then encourage the person to go to the ‘Chat Room’ on site where there will be people available to pray with them. It should also be encouraged that individuals should seek help from their home church where ministry can be continued. Do not make appointments to pray with people outside of the meeting. If extra prayer or counselling is needed then find a member of the Enabling Team and explain the situation. If at any time you feel out of your depth then ask for help. The Enabling Team will be moving around the venue and wearing bright pink badges. We all find ourselves in situations that we cannot handle alone. This is not failure and it’s often good to pray with others, plus it’s a great way to learn more! All these are tips to help you let God work through you.
Don’t worry. The Enabling team and the person leading the meeting will be giving directions and advice to everyone. The important thing is that you are ready and willing to pray for those around you.
MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: HEPFUL THINGS TO KNOW
HELPFUL THINGS TO KNOW
The Soul Survivor office still runs during the summer events and can be reached on 0303 333 1333.
Between the hours of 9am and 5.30pm Information is the place to come if you want, well…. Information. The lovely team will be happy to answer your questions and their specialist subjects include: booking queries, one-day event passes, local facilities (like laundrettes and cab companies) and weather forecasts. Your mate can also buy a programme for themselves there and stop nicking yours! Map Ref: E5
Dotted around the showground you’ll find Info Points telling you loads of helpful things like the seminar timetable, venue changes and other activities going on around site each day.
The Comms team never go to bed during Momentum because they live and breathe to solve any manner of practical issues you might have. They deal with accidents, emergencies and any issues relating to the use of the phonetic alphabet.Open 24 hours. Map Ref: E5.
Stewards are our very special breed of servant hearted people easily spotted by their beautiful 80s inspired fluorescent yellow jackets. They keep us all safe in the venues, they ensure everything’s clean and tidy and generally keep things running very smoothly. So overall they’re a pretty impressive bunch. If you’re lucky enough to come into contact with one of these Stewards types, please do take note of what they say or ask. We will love you very much if you do... you could even hug one, or give one a nice cuppa to say thanks for their efforts!
HELPFUL THINGS TO KNOW: MOMENTUM PROGRAMME
“I was a fool to ever leave your side, me minus you is such a lonely ride, that break up we had made me lonesome and sad, I realise I love you ‘cuz I want you back.” Now there are some words of wisdom, taken from the classic 70’s song Reunited. If they ring true to your wounded heart because you have been separated from your Bible/umbrella/favourite socks then come along to Lost property to be brought back together again. Then go on your merry way singing ‘Reunited, and it feels so good….”
We don’t like talking about this because if you need a replacement that means you and your original wristband have parted company and that’s always a sad thing. Not least of all because it will cost you £40 to replace it (and without a wristband you won’t be able to go into any of the venues). If however you have broken your wristband bring the sad pieces to Information and we will give you a replacement for £1.
FACILITIES FOR HEARING IMPAIRED DELEGATES
All main meetings have a loop system facility – please see the Stewards in each venue for exact locations. Main meetings will be signed so please use the designated seating area in the Big Top.Map Ref: E5
Wikipedia has nothing on our amazing Village Hosts. You can ask them any question you like and they’re bound to know the answer so they should be your first port of call when you need any info. OK to be fair to them they might not actually know who the Norwegian standing high jump champion is (go to Wikipedia for that) but if you have a Momentum query they are the ones you want (a la Grease, but with less singing and slicked back hair).
“IF YOU’RE LUCKY ENOUGH TO COME INTO CONTACT WITH ONE OF THESE STEWARDS TYPES, PLEASE DO TAKE NOTE OF WHAT THEY SAY OR ASK YOU FOR EVERYONE’S SAFETY.”
A little word of warning – we don’t have enough room in Watford to hold all the lost property from the summer so if you don’t realise you’ve lost something ‘til you get home try and call us as quickly as you can. We send all unclaimed items to local charity shops after a little while.
The onsite post box has collections every day and the mini-market also offers a couple of Post Office services. If you need to receive some post while you’re here make sure the sender addresses it as below:

MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: BIBLE NOTES
DIG IT: BIBLE READING NOTES THIS BIBLE READING GUIDE IS ALL ABOUT THE, ERM, BIBLE. THE BIBLE ISN’T A BOOK FULL OF SPECIFIC ANSWERS – YOU CAN’T GO TO A REMOTE PART OF LEVITICUS AND DISCOVER GOD’S RULING ON DOING THE LOTTERY OR WHETHER IT’S OK TO SUPPORT MANCHESTER UNITED (IT’S NOT, BY THE WAY). The Bible is God’s book. It tells us God’s great plan for salvation, an epic story of God and his relationship with and love for his people. And the best part is that we can be part of it all too. Before you read, ask God to speak to you. As you read, ask yourself what God is saying to you through the text. Prayerfully think about the questions. Talk to God and remember to listen! Ready? Put on your Bible reading trousers and let’s go.
DAY 1: WHAT IS THE BIBLE?
Ask God to be with you as you read and think about his Word. Listen for his voice in the words. Then read Isaiah 62:1,2 and Luke 4:16–21 and play spot the similarity. Spot the link? By reading this section out, Jesus is saying, ‘I’m the saviour you’ve been waiting for.’ This is the heart of the Bible – God’s plan for the salvation of his people through Jesus. It stretches over the whole book. God’s relationship with his people is central, and so our relationship with him is central to our walk with him. The Bible does not contain an answer for every problem – its contents are more
important than that. It’s where we encounter this life-changing Jesus and discover what it means to put God at the heart of our lives. • What is your relationship with God like? • Do you know this life-changing Jesus? • What is God saying to you through these passages?
DAY 2: WHY DO I NEED TO READ THE BIBLE?
Who are your influences? Who has made the biggest difference to your life? Read 2 Timothy 3:14 – 4:5. Who or what are the ‘teachers’ (4:2,3) you listen to? Find a piece of paper and write down all that Paul (the writer) tells Timothy about what the Scriptures are for. That’s quite a long list – is there anything that surprises you? Look at verse 15 again. The Bible is God’s story, of rescue through Jesus’ death and resurrection, and through the Bible we discover more of that story. But reading the Bible is not like just watching the TV, it’s much more like pressing the red button. You’re not passive when you read the Bible. We are part of the story, listening to God and interacting with his Word. • Do you let yourself be changed when you read the Bible? • Make a list of what we should do in response to reading the Bible. How can we do this?
BIBLE NOTES: MOMENTUM PROGRAMME
DAY 3: HOW DO I READ IT?
How often do you read the Bible? (Be honest.) Why is that? Read John 16:8–15 and underline some of the things Jesus says the Spirit will do. In this passage, Jesus outlines some of the things the Spirit will do when he comes. But what has this got to do with reading the Bible? Well, when we read the Bible the Holy Spirit is there to guide us as we read. It’s almost like having the director of a film with you as you watch... There are loads of ways of engaging with the Bible (reading, listening, using Bible reading guides, listening to a sermon), but we always need to ask the Holy Spirit to guide us. ‘The Spirit will take what I [Jesus] have to say and tell it to you’ (verse 15). • How do you get into the Bible? • What do you do when you don’t understand something you read? • Ask the Holy Spirit to be with you as you go on to read more of the Bible.
DAY 4: HOW CAN THIS BOOK CHANGE MY LIFE?
DAY 5: HOW DOES THE BIBLE FIT TOGETHER?
If you can find a mirror, look in it now. What do you see? Now stop looking – what can you remember? Now read James 1:22–25. Are you like the people in verse 23 and 24?
What major spiritual events in your life can you pick out? Your first one might be coming to this Soul Survivor event! Read Hebrews 11 and pick out a person whose story is inspiring.
Despite how it sounds, this is not some hitherto undiscovered Gok Wan part of the Bible, but a great illustration of how the Bible can and should change your life. What is the point of looking in the mirror if you’re going to forget what you have seen? You may as well have not looked in the first place.
The Bible is made up of 66 books split into two ‘Testaments’. But it’s not just a collection of different books. Like any good series of Doctor Who or CSI, there is a story arc to the Bible and that’s God’s story of salvation. These ‘heroes of faith’ are all part of this one story. But it doesn’t stop there. While we’re not written into the Bible, we are the continuation of God’s plans.
Similarly, what’s the point of reading the Bible if you’re not going to let the things you read change you? Look at what James says. Listening and letting it change you (obeying) makes you happy. If you don’t, you’re only fooling yourself. • How much do you let the Bible change your life? • What stops you from putting into practice what you read? • Is letting God change your life always a happy experience?
The people in Hebrews 11 only saw a glimpse of what God had planned for the salvation of his people, but we have been given it – Jesus! (Look at verses 39,40.) • How well do you know your way around the Bible? • How much do you feel part of this story arc? • Have you found the thing that makes you perfect (verse 40) – Jesus?
MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: BIBLE NOTES
DAY 8: FIRM FOUNDATIONS
DAY 6: HOW DOES GOD SPEAK TO ME THROUGH THE BIBLE?
Quieten your mind. Focus on God. Read Deuteronomy 11:18–21 and think what the modern equivalents of the things mentioned in the passage might be. If we want to recognise God speaking to us through the Bible, then we need to dive right in and, er, swim about! It’s no use just dipping your toe in once in a while. In today’s passage, Moses is encouraging the Israelites to stay loyal to God, and part of that was to immerse themselves in his Word. And as Moses told the Israelites to write God’s Word all over the place, so we need to read it, listen to it, discuss it, meditate on it, listen to sermons about it, read or find out what others think about it. God speaks to us through all these ways. • Have you heard God speaking through the Bible before? Reflect on what he said. If not, then find someone who has and ask about it! • How can you put the modern equivalents of Deuteronomy 11 into practice?
DAY 7: A CASE STUDY IN CHANGING YOUR LIFE Get comfortable, because today’s story is a long one. Read 2 Kings 22:1 – 23:30. What do you think it was about God’s Word that was so life-changing for Josiah and the people?
Josiah was already a godly man, but finding the Book of the Law changed his life. Reading the book, both Josiah and his people realised how much they still had to learn about God. It really upset Josiah that he had not been living God’s way. But Josiah and the Israelites didn’t just sit there thinking about it; they allowed God’s Word to change their lives. Reflect on some of the things Josiah did after reading God’s Word. He shook up Israel’s spiritual life and brought it into line with what God wanted. No messing about. • Think about the changes that reading God’s Word brought about. What does that tell you about God? • Has the Bible changed your life? If so, how? If not, what’s holding you back?
Ask yourself, ‘What will happen to me when tough spiritual times come?’ Read Matthew 7:24–29. Have you heard this story before? What is it about? This is not about building your life on Jesus. Yes, the Bible describes God as a rock many times, but here the rock is hearing and obeying Jesus’ teachings. These is what we should build our life upon – loving God so much that you can’t do anything other than live God’s way.We need to put God’s teachings into practice, just like Josiah. If we don’t, we’re in danger of being swept aside when life gets too much. We have nothing firm to stand on. We are like the people in James 1, who look in a mirror but then forget what we look like. • How wise are you? Do you hear and act on Jesus’ teachings that you read in the Bible? • Remembering your face or forgetting it? Rock or sand? Which one are you?
BIBLE NOTES: MOMENTUM PROGRAMME
DAY 9: THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT
Who is your neighbour? Read Mark 12:28–34 and think about the order of relationships God is calling us to. Who should we put first? What order is your life in? The Bible is the story of God and his loving relationship with his people. Here, Jesus affirms that from the other direction – we should love the Lord with all that we are. Throughout the Bible, we hear about people who have followed this commandment (and those who haven’t!). Do we put God first? We must learn from the mistakes of those who get it wrong, and build our relationship with God on the firm foundations of listening to his Word and obeying it. • Think about this question again: what order is your life in? If God’s story in the Bible is for you, how do you respond to that? • What about that second commandment? How can we love our neighbour as we love ourselves? How does that affect us in today’s ‘me’ culture?
DAY 10: A CHALLENGE: WHERE WILL YOU GO FROM HERE IN YOUR BIBLE READING?
Read Psalm 119 and underline any verses that particularly speak to you. (Read verses 97–112 if you’re short on time.) This psalm is almost a love song to God’s Word! Go back through the psalm and look for all the references to God’s teachings – they may be called ‘promises’ or ‘rulings’. What do they tell you about the writer’s attitude to Scripture? To the writer, God’s teaching is central – it tells him about God, helps him to live God’s way and reading it deepens his relationship with God (the most important thing in life, as we discovered from Mark 12:28–34). Now look at the verses you underlined. Do they match up with the references to God’s teachings? • How important is reading the Bible to you? • ‘God’s Word is a lamp for our feet and a light for our path’ (verse 105) – how do we see that happening when we go back home?
WHAT HAS GOD SAID TO YOU AT SOUL SURVIVOR? WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT? These Bible notes have been written and produced by our lovely friends at Scripture Union. MOMENTUM PROGRAMME: HEALTH AND SAFETY
HEALTH AND SAFETY FIRE REGULATIONS
Please make sure that when you pitch up, you leave at least three metres between you and the next chap (check with your Village Host if you’re not sure). And it might seem a good idea at the time, but BBQ-ing inside a one man tent is asking for trouble. Be fire savvy and keep all cooking supplies away from the tent.
We have a lovely team of First Aiders on hand 24 hours a day in case you need them and the medical centre is open from 9am to 7pm. For any emergencies outside of these times please go to Comms and they will find a medical person for you. If you have an ongoing medical condition that may cause you problems during Momentum it would be really helpful if you could pop in and let the First Aid team know when you arrive.
It’s pretty straight forward but will really help if anything should happen:
Sickness spreads quickly on a campsite. Do your bit by washing your hands often, especially before eating and letting us know of any broken or dirty facilities on site (pop in to Comms or the Info Tent). If anyone in your group falls ill* during the event then please keep them in their tent and contact the First Aid team. The First Aid Centre is clearly marked on the site map. In an emergency ring 0303 333 1335. *e.g. a sudden fever (high body temperature of over 38C or 100.4F), and sudden cough or any signs of diarrhoea and/or vomiting.
1. DON’T PANIC! 2. DON’T CALL 999 YOURSELF. THIS CAN CAUSE CONFUSION AND DELAY HELP GETTING THROUGH. 3. GO TO COMMS (MAP REF: E5), CALL COMMS ON 0303 333 1335 OR GET HOLD OF YOUR NEAREST STEWARD/VILLAGE HOST AND ALLOW THEM TO CONTACT COMMS ON YOUR BEHALF.
