WELCOME THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOINING US. IF YOU WERE HERE LAST YEAR, IT’S GREAT TO HAVE YOU BACK AND IF YOU HAVEN’T BEEN TO A SOUL SURVIVOR OR NATURALLY SUPERNATURAL EVENT BEFORE WE HOPE YOU’LL FEEL AT HOME WITH US REALLY QUICKLY! This week is all about spending time in God’s presence; we long to draw close to him. We'll be making lots of space in our main meetings each morning and evening to worship him, hear from his word, and pray for one another as we try and follow his lead and see what he wants to do. We want to create a safe space for us all to practice and step out in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We’re all learning and one of our favourite sayings is that if we get it wrong, no one dies, but if we get it right someone might be blessed. So let's be bold. Let's pray for one another, ask God for healing, be open to receiving the gifts he wants to give us, and then take steps of faith in putting them into practice. In the afternoons we’ve got some great seminars lined up to help continue to equip us. We'll be looking at how to hear God's voice, praying for emotional healing, the Holy Spirit and justice, how to be naturally supernatural with kids, as well as Spirit-led worship and how we can keep pursuing the

WELCOME PAGE 1

supernatural when we're in the midst of suffering. There's also the opportunity to get trained to do Healing on the Streets and then to put it into practice in Stafford this week. Plus we’ve got some additional seminars that we thought would be helpful to include on areas such as leading with courage, dealing with conflict in the workplace, and singleness & dating. There are some great venues and social events planned for the afternoons and evenings with cafes, live music, comedians, films, sports and more. Plus on Day 4 we'll pause all the seminars to enjoy a vintage fayre together! We hope you have a wonderful week meeting with Jesus. We're praying that we would all go home changed from being in his presence, knowing more of his love, and better equipped to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit in everyday life. Love Mike

ABOUT US

NSN IS RUN BY SOUL SURVIVOR, A CHARITY THAT BEGAN IN 1993 WITH A PASSION TO EQUIP YOUNG PEOPLE TO LIVE EVERY AREA OF THEIR LIFE FOR GOD.

We now run four events each summer for teenagers (one here in Stafford - which starts on Saturday!) two in Peterborough, and one in Scotland) and a number of equipping events throughout the year. We have been running Naturally Supernatural winter conferences at our church in Watford since 2010 and this is the second time we’ve run a summer conference with the same theme. We are hugely passionate about the whole church being envisioned, equipped and empowered to live in the power of the Holy Spirit and we can’t wait to see what God will do as we make loads of space for him to move this week. We are excited about bringing all ages together to learn what it means to live naturally supernatural lives as we believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for the whole body of the church.

TESTIMONIES

CONFUSED ABOUT WHAT DAY IT IS?

We love to hear how God has been meeting with people! Share your story by email (testimonies@soulsurvivor.com) give us a tweet (using #NSN18 and/or @NSNconf) or use a pen and paper and pop it into the testimony box on the stage. We share some testimonies to encourage each other but if you’d like us to keep yours private, just let us know.

When you enter the Stafford Showground you enter another dimension where days of the week get lost. If you get confused, here’s a handy guide:

FEEDBACK We’d love to hear about your week at NSN and will take all the feedback we get into account as we plan for 2019. We’ll send you a link to a quick questionnaire (this may go to your group leader’s address so check in with them if you don’t receive it) and we’ll post the link on our social media too. We’d love to know your thoughts about what you loved and what we could do better. As a thank you we’ll also enter you into a prize draw to win a USB with all the talks on from this week!

WHAT'S GOING ON? THERE’S SO MUCH GOING ON AT NSN AND WE DON’T WANT YOU TO MISS A THING! THERE’S A MORE DETAILED PLANNER OVERLEAF TO HELP YOU WORK OUT WHAT’S OPEN WHEN BUT HERE’S A QUICK OVERVIEW.

MAIN MEETINGS

The highlight of our time together is always the main meetings where we make lots of space to worship God, hear from his word, wait on his Spirit and pray for one another. We’ll be meeting each day at 10am and 7pm in The Arena.

SEMINARS

There are two seminar slots each afternoon (2pm-3pm and 4pm-5pm) with a wide range of topics to choose from, each helping to equip and empower us in our relationship with Jesus as we learn more about being naturally supernatural.

CAFES AND VENUES

There are plenty of places to relax and enjoy in the afternoons and evenings where you’ll find the best coffee and cake, plus you can browse plenty of resources in the ToolShed or pop to the Chat Room if you need someone to talk and pray with. In the evenings there will also be bars open, Spotlight will bring you some great entertainment, or you can relax in front of a film at the Village Screen.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES

There’s loads going on throughout the day for families including supervised children’s work, a café with toys and games each afternoon for the little ones, family films, a family room that’s available from midnight to 8pm, plus family worship and exercise sessions each morning.

All this plus sports each afternoon and evening and a vintage fayre on Day 4! Check out the planner overleaf to see what’s on offer when and take a look at the venue pages for more info.

MAIN MEETINGS DAY 1: 7PM DAYS 2-6: 10AM AND 7PM

WORSHIP During our meetings we’ll spend lots of time worshipping God and soaking in his presence; everything else we do comes from that place of intimacy with Jesus. We’re longing to move in God’s power and that power is found in his presence, everything flows out of relationship with him. Worship will be led by a band but it’s not about the music; whether we’re belting out praise or quietly whispering ‘I love you’ the focus should always be on Jesus.

COMMUNION On our last morning together we will celebrate all that God has done during the week and what Jesus did on the cross by taking communion together. There will be non-alcoholic wine and glutenfree bread available. If your tradition is to take Catholic Mass this will be available in Shuffle & Shake, with instructions given during the main meeting as to when to head there.

TEACHING We want everything we’re exploring at NSN to be firmly rooted in the word of God so in each session we will look at what the Bible says about living naturally supernatural lives. Our teaching style is very relaxed and informal; we don’t take ourselves seriously but we do take God very seriously and we’re longing to learn more about following his lead in each area of our lives.

MINISTRY We’ll also make lots of space in our meetings to ask God to fill us with his Holy Spirit. We will take time to pray for one another and see what God wants to do whether that’s heal us, equip us, encourage us, empower us, or release us. We can’t plan these times as we want to allow God to do what he wants to do but Mike and Ali will talk through what’s happening as we go. They will also talk through some tips on how to pray for people and do their best to demystify ministry for any who are not used to it. We want to create a safe space for each of us to step out in the gifts of the Spirit, acknowledging that we’re all learning and growing together. We have an experienced enabling team who will be around the venue if you have any questions or feel out of your depth at any time. You might also find it useful to look at the ministry guidelines on page 60.

NATURALLY SUPERNATURAL 2018 EVENT PROGRAMME

NSN_2018_Programme_Samplev2.indd 9

The main meeting will be streamed into Café Uno so if you have small children with you this is the ideal place for you to be part of what’s going on while allowing them to play with the toys provided.

We also have an additional needs room for anyone who finds the main meetings too noisy and would value a quiet place to sit. This room is also available during the afternoons and is marked on the map.

Our friends from TBN UK will be filming throughout our main meetings this week so they can air some NSN programmes later this year. We’ll share details of when they’ll be available as soon as we can via social media plus you can re-watch last year’s programmes with worship, teaching and specially recorded interviews on our YouTube channel. Our media team will also be filming and taking photos during ministry but please be assured all images/footage will be handled sensitively in order to respect everyone’s privacy and so you can relax during ministry times.

NIGHT 5: OKIEM This is a night not to be missed! Okiem’s awesome musicianship shines through as he plays a unique mix of modern pop, romantic and classical music all on a grand piano. Having played venues ranging from the O2 Arena to Glastonbury, Okiem is a hugely experienced musician who knows how to keep a crowd entertained!

THE VILLAGE SCREEN DAYS 1-6: 10PM (PLUS DAY 3: 2PM) WE LOVE A BIT OF CINEMA ACTION SO WE’VE LINED UP SOME OF THIS YEAR’S BEST FILMS FOR YOU TO ENJOY ON THE BIG SCREEN!

PADDINGTON 2 (PG) Day 2 If you don’t love this film pop along to first aid where they will check that you actually have a heart because how could you not?! Paddington is back and he’s found the perfect gift for his beloved Aunt Lucy in Peru. He just needs to earn enough money to pay for it and thwart the dastardly Hugh Grant’s attempts to land him in hot water. This film is guaranteed to make you smile, and there will be no judgement at all if you need to have a little sniffle in places too.

MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS (12A)

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN (PG) MATINEE SING-ALONG!

Day 1 If there’s a murder on your train, and that train gets stranded due to an avalanche with the killer on board, who better to have in your midst than celebrated detective Hercule Poirot? An all star cast re-enacts this Agatha Christie classic as suspicions are raised, tensions run high and secrets are revealed. Worth seeing for Kenneth Branagh’s spectacular moustache alone.

Day 3, 2pm / Acoustic Worship What could be better than watching Hugh Jackman & co on the big screen? Watching Hugh Jackman & co whilst having a SINGALONG! We’re super excited as you might be able to tell so warm up those voices, remember that enthusiasm counts more than singing ability, and be ready to belt out ‘THIS IS ME!’

JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE (12)

WONDER WOMAN (12)

Day 3 There are some things better left in 1995, like the Macarena, pogs, and Brad Pitt’s long hair, but one thing we’re very happy to see the return of is Jumanji! This time it’s not a board game but a video game that sucks the players in to its virtual world. The unwitting players, a group of high school friends, must work together if they have any hope of surviving in the jungle and making it back to their real lives.

Day 5 Raised as a warrior princess on an idyllic island, Diana’s powers are put to the ultimate test when an American pilot tells her of the threat the rest of the world is facing. Leaving her home and encountering the outside world for the first time, Diana must discover her full power and fight with all she has if she’s to win the war to end all wars.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (12)

WONDER (PG)

Day 4 Luke Skywalker becomes an unwilling teacher to hero Rey as she learns the ways of the force, while the last of the Resistance, led by Leia, face an all-out assault from Kylo Ren and General Hux. Prepare for the shocking revelations, epic battles, and witty quips that are just some of the reasons we love Star Wars so very much.

Day 6 This beautiful and inspiring story follows Auggie, a young boy with severe facial anomalies as he starts school in the fifth grade. The film switches viewpoints so we see the impact not just on Auggie himself but on his family and friends too. Covering bullying, betrayal, standing out and standing up for yourself, it’s inspiring, and heartbreaking and heart-warming in equal measures. We’re not crying, you’re crying.

You can get involved in understanding the journey in and out of slavery at the Soul Action stand or find out more about our gap year course for young leaders – Soul61.

TOOLSHED CAFÉ Amidst the hustle and bustle of the ToolShed is a brilliant café, serving up plenty of caffeine and cake to refuel you on your journey.

A COUPLE OF THINGS WE’D LIKE YOU TO KNOW ABOUT THE TOOLSHED • If any of the exhibitors are a bit over-zealous, either in trying to sell something to you or in trying to get you to agree with their take on something, please pop into Info and let us know. The ToolShed isn’t a place for a hard-sell of merch or theology so we’ll have a chat with the exhibitor and make sure it doesn’t happen again. • We don’t want anyone to feel pressured into spending money. Again that’s not what the ToolShed is about, we want it to be a place you can relax. • We don’t let anyone advertise outside of the ToolShed because you’re not here to be sold to but we will often recommend books and resources in our main meetings. We just wanted to make it really clear that when we do that it’s because we think they will be a genuine resource for you, it’s not because we’re getting paid to sell things to you.

The teaching in each group will reflect the content of the main adult sessions so that you can chat as a family about what you’re learning. We want to teach the children about the presence of God and the power of the Holy Spirit so their sessions will include times of worship, listening to God for themselves as well as others, praying for one another, and biblical teaching on the Holy Spirit. There will also be lots of space for fun with experienced leaders who know how to help little ones have a good time. For the under 4s there will be lots of play and free time too!

REGISTRATION FOR THE WEEK As well as giving you a wristband for your child/children (please pop to Info if you don’t have one) we’ll also need to take some security info from you. Please register with the age appropriate group in their venue any time between 4pm and 6pm on Day 1.

SESSION REGISTRATION When you register your child we’ll give you a security card. Bring it back when you come to collect your child and we’ll hand them back. Simple as that. If your child is 10 or 11 and you let their team leader know in advance, they can leave unaccompanied but all under 10s will only be released with a security card. Continued...

DAY PLANNER WE’VE GOT LOADS OF SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS THIS WEEK DESIGNED TO EQUIP YOU TO LIVE A NATURALLY SUPERNATURAL LIFE. We have a couple of seminars that run in a series: Wayne Drain’s on prophecy, Ali Martin and Jeannie Morgan’s sessions on healing, and Minu ChowdhuryWestlake and David Westlake’s seminars on justice. You don’t need to go to all of the seminars in the series, just dip in and out as you like. If you’d like to take part in Healing on the Streets in Stafford with Mark Marx on Days 5 and 6, you’ll need to attend the training sessions on Days 2 and 3 first. We’ve also got a number of seminars that fall slightly outside of the naturally supernatural theme but which we thought would be helpful to include as we look to follow Jesus in all areas of life. These are marked by coloured boxes on the following pages in the day planner. Seminars will last for around an hour. Don’t worry if you miss one or if there are too many to choose from – we record them so you’ll be able to stream them for free on our website after the event. If you’d like to get hold of a USB with all the talks on (seminars and main meetings) you can pre-order one at our stand in the ToolShed to pick up before you leave. Turn to the back for a little discount voucher as a special gift to you!

DAY TWO 2PM – 3PM

4PM – 5PM

HEARING FROM GOD THROUGH PROPHECY

TEACHING SCRIPTURES IN THE POWER OF THE SPIRIT

WALKING WITH JESUS THROUGH YOUR 20S AND 30S

Graham Cray & Hannah Mather The Word and Spirit are inseparable. Those who teach the Bible need the anointing of the Holy Spirit on their ministry just as much as those who exercise gifts like prophecy and leading ministry times. This seminar will look at how we can be naturally supernatural as we prepare to teach (understanding, interpreting and applying scripture) and as we deliver the teaching we have prepared. Café Uno, 18N004

Freddie Pimm Our 20s and 30s have the potential for some key life events such as going from studying to starting a career, sometimes from renting to buying a home, and maybe from being single to getting married. How can we survive and thrive in the midst of this change? Spotlight, 18N006

Wayne Drain Our creator God speaks in many ways and the Bible tells us that the sheep know the shepherd’s voice. We’ll start this series looking at practical applications of how to hear God through the gift of prophecy. Café Uno, 18N001

HEALING ON THE STREETS Mark Marx Healing on the Streets (HOTS) is a gentle but powerful way of expressing God’s love in local communities by offering prayer to those who are sick or suffering. HOTS can work anywhere so Mark will be taking us through the principles of how to engage people passing by, how to pray for physical healing and how to ensure people always leave feeling loved. Big Top, 18N002

DESPERATE TIMES, DESPERATE CRIES Debby Wright Debby will share stories and illustrations of what happens when people cry out to God in prayer, encouraging us all to pray for God’s kingdom to come. Spotlight, 18N003

DAY TWO / DAY PLANNER PAGE 32

NSN_2018_Programme_Samplev2.indd 32

JUSTICE: THE SOUND OF WORSHIP Minu Chowdhury-Westlake & David Westlake God intended the life of seeking justice and serving the poor to be integral to the life of worship yet often they have been separated. This seminar will discover the worship that pleases God and explore how the life of the Spirit and the life of service work hand in hand. Big Top, 18N005

PRAYING AND MINISTERING GOD’S HEALING Ali Martin & Jeannie Morgan We'll be looking at the values of prayer ministry as well as giving loads of practical advice about how to pray for people in a way that gives the Holy Spirit opportunity to move and meet with them. We’ll cover things like why we lay on hands, how we proactively wait on God, and how we hear what God might want to say to the person we’re praying for. There will be space for ministry as we put into practice what we're learning. Shuffle & Shake, 18N007

DAY THREE 2PM – 3PM RECEIVING A PROPHETIC WORD Wayne Drain When it comes to hearing a word from God, many people are nervous and fearful, understandably so when there are glaring examples of excess and counterfeit expressions in this area. But the truth is that God still speaks and the role of prophetic ministry is as vital today as it has ever been in the church. This workshop will look at practical guidelines to help us embrace the prophetic today. Café Uno, 18N008

THE MIRACLE QUESTION Mark Marx We’re longing to see people healed and getting to know God as their loving saviour. So how can we pray for people and preach the gospel wherever we might be whether that’s at work, on the bus, in the pub or at the supermarket? Can God do miracles in the few moments we have to share and pray? Big Top, 18N009

LOVING THE POOR AND MARGINALISED ONE BY ONE Debby Wright Debby’s church, Trent Vineyard in Nottingham, is well known for having a thriving compassion ministry in a city with

significant deprivation. In this session Debby will share why engaging with those in poverty is a Kingdom priority. Spotlight, 18N010

4PM - 5PM SPIRIT-LED WORSHIP Mike Pilavachi Mike will look at some key questions about worship today including, what does “Spirit-led worship” really mean? What is the place for creativity in worship? What is the fruit of worship? What does it mean to be an anointed worship leader? And how can we lead our church into new expressions of worship? Café Uno, 18N011

JOINING THE MISSION OF JESUS Minu Chowdhury-Westlake & David Westlake Jesus calls us to join his movement and mission and to continue the work he began. This seminar will look at the mission of Jesus as he described and lived it, seeing how Jesus built on the Old Testament understanding of God’s mission to be and bring good news to the dark and desperate places of the world. Big Top, 18N012

PURSUING THE HOLY SPIRIT AS A CHURCH - THE CAUSEWAY COAST VINEYARD STORY Janet & Neil Young Causeway Coast Vineyard (CCV) started in 1998 with a group of six people dreaming of seeing God’s kingdom impacting the community around them. The goal was to relentlessly pursue God’s voice and over the years CCV has seen God do the most incredible, beautiful, disruptive and imaginative things so we’ve asked them to share that journey as an encouragement to us all. Spotlight, 18N013

TOOLS FOR INNER HEALING Ali Martin & Jeannie Morgan Over the years we’ve found some tried and tested tools that are helpful to have in your toolkit when it comes to praying with and ministering to someone. This isn’t about a prescriptive check list of exercises to work through but having ideas to draw on as to how to pray as you sense what God is doing. There will be space to put some of these into practice and to minister to one another. Shuffle & Shake, 18N014

DAY FIVE 2PM – 3PM WEIGHING PERSONAL PROPHECY

HEALING ON THE STREETS

Wayne Drain Mistakes can be made in the name of prophecy, especially when we let our desires or emotions become the motivating factor. We need to carefully weigh prophetic words, and ensure that prophecies are always given in a fitting and orderly way. Come along for ideas and practical tips on how to discern if a word is really from God. Café Uno, 18N015

Mark Marx Putting into practice all we’ve been learning so far in this stream, Mark will be taking us out on to the streets of Stafford to pray for willing passersby. For accountability these sessions are only open to those who have been to the previous training seminars.

BECOMING THE RIGHT PARTNER Ness Wilson Ness will be tackling loads of great questions such as: When we are waiting for a relationship, how do we make sure our season of singleness isn’t wasted? Can that time be used to help save our future marriages before they even begin?! If we stay single can we experience contentment, even fulfillment? When we are dating, how can we date well? When we’ve found a mate for life, how do we become the best husband or wife we can be? Spotlight, 18N016

THE WORKPLACE: LEADING WITH COURAGE Nikki Marfleet Leading well in the workplace calls for grit, courage, and determination. Come and hear stories and practical ideas of how we can creatively approach a servant-leader model within a secular workforce. Whether you’re an employee or an employer, this will be an inspiring and challenging look at bringing kingdom values into your workplace culture and seeing the eternal impact of your 9-5 routine. Shuffle & Shake, 18N017

4PM – 5PM DEALING WITH CONFLICT Nikki Marfleet One of the most difficult areas in building a healthy team is how we deal with conflict and difficult conversations. This session will outline practical steps to help you tackle this area which is so often swept under the rug leading to disastrous consequences. Café Uno, 18N018

SUPERNATURAL SUFFERING Janet & Neil Young Leading people into a supernatural lifestyle can be a difficult journey when you aren’t personally seeing the breakthrough that you had hoped for or are facing difficult situations. How do we lean into risk when our reality is painful? How do we push into more when we are experiencing loss? How do we handle suffering and the supernatural? Spotlight, 18N019

MINISTERING DEEPER HEALING FREEDOM FOR PRISONERS AND CAPTIVES Ali Martin & Jeannie Morgan Looking at Isaiah 61 we’ll explore the difference between prisoners and captives and how we can pray for freedom for people whether they’ve become enslaved to unhealthy habits or whether they’ve been hurt by the mistreatment of others. We’ll make space within the session to pray for one another. Shuffle & Shake, 18N020

DAY SIX 2PM – 3PM DISCOVERING THE ART OF PROPHECY Wayne Drain Any believer can prophesy when there is a prophetic anointing present but that doesn’t mean everyone has a gift of prophecy or should be called a prophet. The art of prophecy develops in those who move beyond human imagination or the inspiration of an anointed environment, and truly connect with the Holy Spirit and are aligned with the principles of scripture. Join Wayne to look at three principles needed to develop the art of prophecy in our lives. Café Uno, 18N021

THE FEMALE DE-CONSTRUCTION PROJECT Rachel Gardner What does it mean to be female? Is gender a barrier to living as a disciple of Jesus? There are lies and false goals bringing a deep sense of shame to women that they are ‘not enough’. Rachel will help us look at three lies and false expectations around what it means to be female and help us re-shape godly goals and hold on to Godgiven truth instead. Spotlight, 18N022

4PM – 5PM WORSHIP Q&A Mike Pilavachi & Tom Smith This seminar is an opportunity for you to put your questions to Mike and Tom about how to follow the lead of the Spirit in times of worship. Café Uno, 18N023

Helen Rushton & Busy Thomas Using a mix of biblical and practical teaching Helen and Busy will look at how we explore the gifts of the Spirit with children without being strange! Drawing on experience of how children learn and engage, we’ll look at how we inspire younger ones about the ‘power and possibility’ of the Holy Spirit. The teaching will largely be aimed at churchbased children’s workers though parents are very welcome too. Big Top, 18N024

FREEDOM FROM LABELS, LIES AND GRAVE CLOTHES Ali Martin & Jeannie Morgan As we go through life we can pick up negative labels about who we are, so in this session we’ll look at how we can minister healing and see God bring freedom from these lies. Often we carry ‘grave clothes’ from painful wounds so, looking at the story of Lazarus, we’ll see how God wants to bring freedom to these areas. We’ll make space to pray for one another and see what God wants to do. Shuffle & Shake, 18N025

INFO

WRISTBANDS

Your wristband is your must have accessory during NSN. Please fix it around your wrist when you arrive (bonus points if you do it beforehand) and keep it on at all times. It will stand up to most things (except a pair of scissors) but if you do manage to break it, please bring the sad, sorry pieces to Info and we’ll get you a shiny new one for £1. If you lose it altogether you’ll need to pay £40 for a replacement so please try and hang on to it!

VILLAGE HOSTS

Each camping village has a couple of village hosts who are guaranteed to be even friendlier than Phil and Holly. They’re here to help ensure you have a smooth stay and will be happy to help you set up camp, lend you a mallet, answer your Soul Survivor related questions, and perhaps even make you a cup of tea during the week. Make the most of them – they’re a lovely bunch!

It’s easy to lose track of your belongings with so much fun stuff going on so if you notice you’ve lost something just pop into Info and we’ll do our best to reunite you. If you don’t realise something is missing until you get home, just drop us an email (info@soulsurvivor.com). We only take valuables back to Watford with us when we leave on 9th August (we’re here for Soul Survivor Week A after NSN) so please do get in touch before then otherwise your misplaced wellies may be donated to a local charity.

SUPERMARKET

The nearest supermarket is Asda in Stafford (ST16 3TA). It’s a 10 minute drive away. THE OFFERING DAY 4: DURING THE EVENING MEETING ON THE EVENING OF DAY 4 WE WILL TAKE UP AN OFFERING AS PART OF OUR WORSHIP IN THE MAIN MEETING. THERE’S NO COMPULSION TO GIVE BUT WE HOPE YOU’LL FEEL AS PASSIONATELY AS WE DO THAT THESE ARE WORTHWHILE CAUSES TO SUPPORT.

PERSECUTED CHURCH

Many of our brothers and sisters around the world suffer for their faith. They can be imprisoned, fined, tortured or even killed just for following Jesus. We work with church leaders in and around Central Asia to encourage and equip them as they support and strengthen their churches in the hardest of circumstances. Due to the sensitive nature of this work we are unable to give exact details as it may endanger those we are supporting.

RAISING UP YOUNG LEADERS

We’ve always been passionate about raising up young leaders who will love and serve the church and build God’s kingdom. One of the ways we do this is through our Soul61 leadership course which you can find out more about on page 68. We long to see the church thriving with leaders who love Jesus and are committed to building his family and blessing their communities.

THE OFFERING PAGE 50

NSN_2018_Programme_Samplev2.indd 50

SOUL ACTION

We want all people to live in God’s freedom but know that slavery continues to exist and that many around the world do not have the educational opportunities that we have been blessed with. Money given towards Soul Action will enable us to make grants to organisations like Soul Action South Africa who are starting a school to help underprivileged children in some of the poorest parts of Durban. You can find out more about Soul Action on page 66 and in the ToolShed.

THE GREEN STANDARD WE WANT TO TAKE CARE OF THE AMAZING PLANET THAT GOD HAS GIVEN US SO WE’VE DONE WHAT WE CAN TO HELP US ALL BE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY DURING NSN. RECYCLING

There are recycling points all around the showground for glass, plastic, cardboard and cans. There are also recycling bags at each village waste point that you can take back to your camp.

REFILL YOUR WATER BOTTLE

You’ve probably heard that single-use plastic bottles are causing a huge environmental problem (if not, just hang out with David Attenborough for a while) and whilst we want everyone to stay hydrated, we’d love to encourage you to use a reusable bottle. If you’ve brought one with you a) you’re brilliant b) you can refill it at any of our cafes plus there are taps on all the villages. If you don’t have one and would like to invest, head to the ToolShed. Limiting plastic bottle waste is a huge step towards an eco-friendly planet.

REUSEABLE COFFEE CUPS

You can purchase reusable coffee cups in our cafes or you’re very welcome to bring your own and we’ll refill that for you.

NATURALLY SUPERNATURAL 2018 EVENT PROGRAMME

NSN_2018_Programme_Samplev2.indd 51

COMPOSTABLE CUPS

To keep all our consciences clear, we’ve made sure all the coffee cups, straws, paper bags and plates used in our cafes are 100% compostable. They can be placed in normal bins and don’t even need to go in the recycling. Amazing.

PLAYING FAIR

All the tea, coffee, hot chocolate, juice and sugar served in our cafes is Fairtrade because we want to make sure all the growers involved earn a living wage. Milk is sourced locally and we sell the most ethical water available. All our clothing is Fair Wear certified, and we have Fairtrade chocolate in our cafés and fairtrade wine in the bars too!

LEFTOVERS

If you have any leftover food, cleaning supplies or toilet roll at the end of the week we’ll happily pass that on to a local charity who can put it to good use. They will gladly take any unopened nonperishable items that have a decent shelflife so just bring any leftovers to Info on the afternoon of Day 6 or on the morning you go home and we’ll pass it on for you. Thanks for doing your bit to look after our world!

WE NEED YOU! SOUL SURVIVOR HAS ONLY EVER EXISTED BECAUSE OF AMAZINGLY GENEROUS PEOPLE WHO SHARE OUR PASSION TO REACH YOUNG PEOPLE AND HAVE GIVEN THEIR TIME AND MONEY TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN. WE NEED PEOPLE WHO WILL STAND WITH US IN OUR FINAL YEAR AND HELP US TO FINISH WELL. COULD YOU HELP US? GIVE

We try and keep the cost of our events low so that they are open to everyone and especially to those who don’t yet know Jesus. This means we don’t cover our costs through ticket prices and therefore all donations, whether one-off or regular monthly gifts, help us to do what we do. Money given also allows us to do things like provide resources for free such as the teaching on our website and YouTube channel. Head to our website to give online or to find giving forms. If Soul Survivor/ NSN has been a blessing to your church we’d also really appreciate it if you were able to take up a one-off offering for us.

PRAY

We want to pray that all those who come to our events go home blessed and equipped to keep following Jesus in all areas of their lives. Please pray with us, especially for those who have just come to faith and those who go home to particularly difficult situations that they would keep going in their faith and would know God with them.

MAKE OUR FINAL YEAR A GREAT CELEBRATION!

We’ve been running Soul Survivor events since 1993 and we want to end in 2019 with a real celebration of God’s goodness. We’d love for you to join us and bring friends and family along too. God isn’t finished with us yet and we’re excited and expectant of all that he will do during the rest of this summer and next! Bookings for 2019 will open this summer.

GIVE WHEN YOU ARE INTERNET SHOPPING

If you head to easyfundraising.co.uk you can nominate Soul Survivor as your preferred charity and then when you shop online, a number of retailers will donate money to us at no cost to you. Amazing eh?!

AS PART OF THIS MIKE AND ALI WILL MAKE TIME FOR US TO WAIT ON GOD’S SPIRIT AND PRAY FOR GROUPS OF PEOPLE THEY BELIEVE GOD PARTICULARLY WANTS TO MEET WITH. A GUIDE TO PRAYING FOR OTHERS…

When you’re praying remember that you are there to encourage those seeking God and to bless what the Holy Spirit is doing. There is no ‘right way’ to pray for each other but we’ve included these guidelines as they are tried and tested and tend to work quite well! While you’re with us please stick to the advice given. Lots of it is just straight-forward common sense! In general please feel free to pray for anyone but occasionally, if ministry is of a sensitive nature, we may suggest that people pray with someone who shares their gender.

Don’t worry if you’ve never had prayer offered in this way, or if you’re not sure how to pray, Mike and Ali will talk you through what’s going on and some basics for praying. We also have an experienced enabling team (wearing badges) who will be around to help you and answer your questions.

WHAT HAPPENS?

Ministry times usually begin with an invitation from someone on the main stage for people to wait on and respond to the Holy Spirit. The most important thing to remember is that this is God’s work, not ours. Try to stay open to what God might want to do in your life and invite him to speak to you. Everyone responds differently to meeting with God so try not to focus too much on your reaction or the reactions of those around you. We can experience God in all sorts of ways and physical manifestations aren’t the important thing. If you’d like to receive from God just stay focused on him. If you’d like to pray for other people, have a read on for some helpful tips.

NATURALLY SUPERNATURAL 2018 EVENT PROGRAMME

NSN_2018_Programme_Samplev2.indd 61

Don’t be afraid to ask someone what they would like you to pray for and what God is doing even if the Holy Spirit is moving powerfully on them (in Luke 18v40 Jesus asks the blind man ‘What do you want me to do for you?’). However, be aware of not turning this into a long conversation; this is a time for the Holy Spirit to offer counselling, not you! If appropriate you can speak into the situation or condition in Jesus’ name, but be sensitive and recognise that you may be wrong. If you have a prophetic word or picture, offer these as a prayer or in such a way that the person being prayed for can make their own decision as to how appropriate they are. Never insist that what you have to say is a word from God and always seek to strengthen, encourage and comfort the person you’re praying for (1 Corinthians 14v3). Encourage the person to receive from God and be still, rather than pray for themselves. Some people may show this attitude by opening their hands in front of them. The laying on of hands to pray is Biblical. We see Jesus touch a man to heal him of leprosy in Mark 1 v40-45 and he lays

ARTICLES

hands on the children to bless them in Matthew 19v13-15. That said, not everyone is comfortable with this so please be aware of that. Please also use common sense about where you place your hands so it doesn’t become distracting for the person you are praying for. Keep your eyes open when you pray for someone. This means you are more aware of what God is doing and how the person is responding. It also means you can grab them some tissues if they start crying or be prepared if they look like they may fall over in the power of the Spirit. If someone does fall over in the power of the Holy Spirit then please make sure they are in a comfortable position, not draped over anyone else and that their dignity is maintained (i.e. nothing is on show that shouldn’t be). If you can, put a jumper or jacket under the person’s head. It is not always necessary to stay with them for the whole time but if you move away encourage them to keep receiving from God and keep an eye on them to check they are safe. It can be helpful to whisper to them that you will return in a little while so they know that they are not forgotten. Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and encouragement, and be prepared to wait, this is God’s work, not yours. If you feel like God has said something to you, offer it gently and pray into it if appropriate. The person you are praying for may tell you about things that have happened in their life. Don’t appear to be shocked by any disclosures. Confidentiality is vitally important to create a safe atmosphere for ministry but if someone under the age of 18 tells you they are in an abusive or dangerous situation there is a duty of care that this is reported. Please DO

PRAYER MINISTRY GUIDELINES PAGE 62

NSN_2018_Programme_Samplev2.indd 62

NOT promise to keep anything secret but contact a member of the enabling team who will provide further support. For any person, regardless of age, who is currently at risk (e.g. wants to commit suicide) this should also be reported to the enabling team so that appropriate support can be found to keep that person safe. It’s very important to allow the expression of feelings and this might mean people cry, shake or respond in other ways to what God is doing. This is totally fine but be careful not to suppress or to build up the situation. Alternatively some people might not seem to respond physically at all. That’s fine too. We want God to do what he wants to do, we don’t want to get in the way of that and we want to make sure people leave a time of ministry feeling loved and valued. If someone has been crying for a long time, or releasing deep pain, they may start breathing too fast. Encourage the person to concentrate on breathing slowly – this won’t stop what God is doing and will make sure the person is OK. Remember you can always call over a member of the enabling team if you are worried. It’s brilliant to have more than one person praying for someone at a time so feel free to go over and join someone who’s praying already. That said, it’s can be distracting if a large group gather around someone when the ministry is of a sensitive nature so please ensure people have enough personal space. If at any time you feel out of your depth then ask for help from the enabling team. We all find ourselves in situations that we can’t handle alone. This is not failure and it’s often good to pray with others, plus it’s a great way to learn more!

PRAYING FOR PHYSICAL HEALING

When Jesus healed people in the Bible he spoke to the sickness and ailments and commanded them to be healed. Jesus gives us the power and authority to do the same in his name. So, for example, if you are praying for a sight problem, speak to the eye and tell it to ‘Be open and see in Jesus’ name’. If you’re praying for an ear, speak to the ear and tell it to be open and hear in the name of Jesus. When praying for injuries that cause pain or immobility ask the person what level of pain they have on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest pain possible). Speak to the condition in the name of Jesus and command it to be healed. Speak to the pain and tell it very firmly to ‘Stop it,’ in Jesus’ name (but remember you don’t need to shout!). If appropriate speak to the mobility of the joint or limb and tell it to be healed in Jesus’ name. After this short prayer ask the person to test for pain and mobility in the injured area. Ask for the number out of 10 of the level of pain and mobility to see if it has gone down. Repeat the prayer, if necessary, as many times as you are both comfortable with.

AND FINALLY…

Not everyone is familiar with ministry and prayer times and some people feel a bit concerned or nervous when they become aware of God working through his Holy Spirit. We need to help people who are receiving feel comfortable and safe, and to encourage them to reach out to God. Always be sensitive and respectful, keeping in mind how you would like to be prayed for, and constantly asking for God’s help. Reassure those being prayed for that God has heard sincere prayers and the cries of our hearts and encourage them to expect answers. Speak healing, peace and release in the name of Jesus and remember the place of repentance, forgiveness and being forgiven. If someone would like extra prayer you can refer them to a member of the enabling team or to the Chat Room. Encourage the person to receive as much prayer as they like during Naturally Supernatural but also to seek ongoing ministry support from their home church. Don’t make any appointments to pray with people you don’t know outside of the meeting. All these are tips to help you let God work through you. Remember: don’t worry. The enabling team and the person leading the meeting will be giving directions and advice to everyone. The important thing is that you are ready and willing to pray for those around you.

SOUL ACTION EACH YEAR AT NSN WE CELEBRATE THE FREEDOM THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT BRINGS US. WE DELIGHT IN BEING SET FREE FROM THE THINGS THAT HOLD US BACK AND ASKING GOD TO LEAD US INTO FURTHER FREEDOM AS WE DISCOVER HIS CALLING AND EMPOWERMENT IN OUR LIVES. WE KNOW THAT WHERE THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS, THERE IS FREEDOM!

In 2005 we set up Soul Action so that the freedom we experience at Soul Survivor events would continue beyond the showgrounds to some of the world’s poorest communities. All the people of the world are made in God’s image and our Father has good plans for all of us. However, Jesus taught us that there is an enemy who hates humans and who acts like a thief, trying to steal, kill and destroy people made in God’s image (John 10:10). In the same verse Jesus promised that he had come to bring fullness of life to God’s children. In recent years Soul Action has been focussed on two areas: freedom from slavery for those who have been trafficked and held captive; and opening up the future for those who wouldn’t otherwise have access to a quality education.

FREEDOM FROM SLAVERY

Sadly slavery isn’t a thing of the past today there are at least 40 million slaves in the world. Even while we are here at NSN, another 17,000 children will have been sold – the equivalent of two children every minute of every day. They are sold to work in sweatshops, brothels and fishing boats. We believe those children belong in families, playgrounds and schools instead. In short, they should be living in freedom. Working with International Justice Mission (IJM) we support the rescue of those in captivity, the rebuilding of their lives and the prosecution of the slave owners. You can get involved by: •

Going to the Soul Action stand in the ToolShed to play ‘Build a bridge to freedom’. This game is suitable for all ages and shows how slavery happens and how freedom can come. Joining the fight to end slavery. Chat to the team on our stand in the ToolShed about how you can help build a bridge to freedom for those held captive. Money helps, but if we are going to have investigators, lawyers and social workers knocking on the doors of brothels, sweatshops and fishing businesses, then we need to be knocking on the door of heaven too. Last year IJM and Soul Survivor launched Prayer for Justice to build a huge move of prayer to see the end of slavery. Join with us by signing up to pray at the stand or at www.Pray4Justice.net

FREEDOM FOR THE FUTURE

We take education for granted but across the world some of the poorest children are denied the opportunities that education brings, often because they are the wrong gender, caste or ethnic group; or simply because they are poor and they cannot afford an education or be spared from the family’s work. Since we began, Soul Action has supported projects to bring quality education to poor communities, particularly in South Africa. We have worked with Soul Action South Africa and a network of local partners who provide teacher training and support in informal settlements and townships. Right now we are working to develop a truly multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-social school that can provide quality education for children who would otherwise be denied the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

SOUL61

WHAT IS SOUL61?

Soul61 is an opportunity to set the foundation for a lifetime of leadership. We want to give you space to encounter God, worship him, wait on him and allow him to mould you into the person he wants you to be. Throw yourself in and you will be challenged and stretched in your character and gifts as you learn, grow and develop your skills.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Soul61 is for anyone aged 18-24 who feels the call of God on their life to serve his people. We’re not looking for individuals who feel they have it all together; we’re after those who have a deep and genuine desire to develop their character, and have an openness to be used by God wherever he chooses.

1. After arrival/unpacking, all vehicles must be moved to the designated car parks to comply with fire and safety regulations. Only emergency vehicles or ones with a valid disabled badge are allowed on site. Cars may be forcibly removed if they are parked illegally. 2. Tents and caravans can only be moved to a different village with permission from the Info team so that we know where to find you in the case of an emergency. 3. Event wristbands must be worn (around your wrist!) at all times and they are the only way to gain access into the venues. There is a £1 charge to replace a broken wristband and a £40 charge to replace a lost one – head to Info for assistance. 4. Parents/carers are responsible for their children at all times when they are not in supervised children’s/youth work. 5. Alcohol can only be consumed within camping villages and in licensed venues. 6. Strictly no drugs, intoxicating agents (such as ‘legal highs’) or drug paraphernalia is allowed on site, except when medically prescribed. Anyone found in possession of drugs or suspected to be under the influence of drugs will be evicted from the site and be denied further entry to the event. Any such incidents will be reported to and dealt with by our site management team and the police representatives on site. 7. Smoking is not allowed inside any of the buildings, marquees or individual tents and caravans. 8. No speeding. When you arrive and leave the showground please keep to the 10mph limit. We know it’s incredibly painful but it’s important to keep everyone safe. No driving lessons are allowed either (which probably saves everyone a few arguments). 9. We’re sorry we can’t allow any pets on the showground except guide dogs. If you have a guide dog please introduce them to us in Info on arrival.

SITE RULES 11. We don't condone anyone forcing their views on others (including sectarian propaganda or proselytising), so if you see anyone doing this please let us know immediately in Info. 12. Promotion of organisations or activities that do not form part of the Naturally Supernatural event programme, including the distribution of literature, is only permitted by authorised exhibitors within the ToolShed. 13. We don’t operate holiday insurance or cancellation schemes so we strongly recommend you consult with an insurance broker if you need cover. We can’t be held responsible for loss or damage to people or personal property so please take care of yourself and your belongings. 14. Please respect other people’s privacy by not taking photos or videos during ministry times where people are identifiable. Our official media team will take some photos and video which will be handled sensitively to respect everyone’s privacy. Drones are not to be used except by our team. 15. Please take care of the showground and its facilities. Please don’t enter any areas that are marked out of bounds by red tape. 16. Open fires, fireworks and Chinese lanterns are not allowed. It’s sad because they’re so pretty but it helps keep everyone safe. 17. The car park is on the other side of a very busy road to the showground so please use the underpass when you cross to avoid any accidents. Please make sure your children don’t use their bike or skateboard in the underpass. 18. The campsite needs to be quiet by 1am so we don’t upset the neighbours and the curfew village should be peaceful by 10pm to let everyone get a good night’s sleep.

YOU’RE DONE! WELL DONE FOR READING ALL THE RULES – WE APPLAUD YOU AND YOUR CONSCIENTIOUSNESS.

10. Generators cannot be used on site. Electrical hook-ups can be only be provided where agreed in advance.
