Dumangan

Dumangan is known as the “Tagalog sky-god of good harvest”. A god praised by the Sambal people, an ethnolinguistic group that inhabits the provinces : Pangasinan and Zambales. Furthermore, in Zambales’ culture, Dumangan is the god who they believe has the ability to create rice with great quality. I decided to create an artwork of Dumangan as he is not being talked about much as the other gods in the Philippines mythology like Apolaki, Mayari, etc.

I depicted him as an adult man with a vest. I drew mountains so I can symbolize the significance of his story in the provinces. Additionally, I decided to give him tribal accessories to fit the theme as it is what the Philippine mythology’s usual depiction of what gods wear.
