Linda Browne, President of the Scioto Guild shared the following quote, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the COURAGE TO CONTINUE that counts.” – Winston Churchill. And the winner of the Pleasure Guild’s Corona Gift Basket filled with goodies intended to comfort in these strange and difficult times is Pleasure Guild Member, Courtney Hayden. The winner of this particular contest was chosen by drawing from the submissions entered by Pleasure Guild members. According to Guild President Mary Moore, “drawing was the best method, because if a winner was based on content, it would definitely have been impossible to choose just one.” In Mary’s words Courtney Hayden – “they all were winners.” There is one excerpt from Courtney’s letter Mary wanted to share: “Love a little stronger, hug a little harder.” Wise words to live by even though hugs unfortunately have to be virtual right now. Mary adds, “There were varied answers centering on family, friends and worship – however there was one category that was mentioned 100 percent of all submissions (the camaraderie with other volunteers and the volunteer office staff, Jenny & Sherri). The Pleasure Guild would like to give a nod to Jenny & Sherri for all they do. They affect lives every day of the year, pandemic or not.” In other Pleasure Guild news, there will be an in-house sale (November 14 – 21) at Jet’s Gourmet Popcorn, featuring First Class Sweets and Confections. All of you are familiar with their delicious popcorn, cotton candy, gourmet cookies and chocolates. Nothing like these goodies for the holidays! Please stop by to stock up and support this fundraising effort. From all of us in the Pleasure Guild, we miss all our co-volunteers and hope to be back working with you soon. – Mary Moore, President Pleasure Guild.
Glenna Arnett, President of the Pediatric Guild writes: “Sure miss seeing everyone in person and as we move into the fall I hope everyone takes time to enjoy the fall season and changing of the leaves. Everyone stay safe and vigilant.” Sandy Cable, President of the Hope Guild sent the following message to share: “I miss everyone and we have to remember it is not forever even if it seems like it. I am so proud of what we do. Stay positive and remember what Mother Teresa once said, “We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.’” Praying this will all be over soon so we can meet again. Love you. - Sandy.” Karen Evans, President of the Service Guild hopes everyone is staying safe and having a wonderful fall. She is definitely looking forward to seeing everyone when we can safely meet again. Karen Wood, President of the Kardia Guild notes, “hope everyone is staying safe and I can’t wait until we can meet again. I miss everyone! – Karen”
A Note From Jenny As I find myself spending more time outside than ever before, I seem to have gotten in touch with the parts of nature that I used to mostly ignore. Every evening for many months I find myself looking forward to sitting in my Adirondack chair, enjoying the peacefulness, watching the clouds slowly glide across the sky and listening to my audiobooks as the dogs play and roam about the yard – this seems to always make my heart smile. Ever since the first warm day in March I have practiced this routine so much that I have seen warm afternoons give way to cooler crisp evenings with a jacket required. Yes, our green
canopy has lost its vibrancy and the beautiful radiant colors of Fall are now among us. With this, and Thanksgiving being an opportunity to realize that we have much for which we can be thankful for I wanted to take a moment to share. This past summer was no doubt unlike any other I have ever known or anticipated, on the other hand, it was the first summer that I really noticed, and continue to do so on a daily basis. With this year I have witnessed how easily at times one could find themselves anxious, or overwhelmed – however, I have also seen that we are becoming more mindful of what is important, more compassionate to each other, and finding ways to work together as a community during these uncertain times. As I have previously promised in an earlier issue of our newsletter I will keep us together from
a distance and will continue to strive every day to bring hope. Please know that you are missed sincerely beyond belief, and I eagerly await the day I can bring you back safely. Until then, you know my door is always open, my cell is continually attached, and I am always available for you 24/7 – and that is a promise. In closing, I wish each of you a joyous and peaceful Thanksgiving, and may you be blessed with the simplest act of kindness, and a warm and comforting thought as you too, take time to reflect on your many blessings as well. Much love to all! Hugs and Smiles,
Jenny Lavender, Mgr. Volunteer Services
