OPP MARINE UNIT GETS TOUGH ON WATER DESMOND DEVOY desmond.devoy@metroland.com "Are you kidding me?" she wanted to know. "It's a very serious offence," replied OPP Sgt. Byron Newell, steadying himself on the edge of the OPP marine unit boat in the Lower Rideau Lake near Rideau Ferry, as he extended his hand to give the female boater her $240 fine. The female boater had been caught on Friday, Aug. 2, heading toward a cottage near the bridge, with only two life jackets for three people on board, including herself. But Newell was not done with her. "We have to follow you back," See OPP, page 4

All eyes will be on Smiths Falls swimmer, Bailey Andison, this first week of August, as she's part of Team Canada competing in Lima, Peru at the Pan Am Games. The swimming events will take place Aug. 6 to 10. She will swim in the 200 IM on Saturday, Aug. 10 with the finals later that evening. Andison made the team after qualifying at the Canadian swim trials in Toronto earlier this year. Head coach Rob Pettifer says Team Canada will be a mixture of young swimmers and some veterans. "It's a balancing act," said Pettifer, who is also the head coach of the Richmond (B.C.) Rapids Swim Club. "Pan Ams will allow them to have a Games experience in a smaller capacity and provide them with the opportunity to race internationally in a very competitive environment." For some Canadian swimmers, performances at the Pan Ams could build their confidence as they work toward earning a spot on the team competing at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. "There will be a number of athletes that will have very realistic shots to make that team in Tokyo next year," Pettifer added. "It's all about moving that line forward." The 21-year-old Andison

he said. "We want to make sure you get back safely." Up next on the waters was a father pulling two children along behind his boat on a dinghy - with no spotter checking on them as required by law, for which he received a $305 fine. As he handed over the ticket, Newell recommended the Discover Boating app for his phone, whenever he had questions about the rules of the water. The OPP was out in force, with three vessels cruising the waters of the Lower Rideau as part of the launch of Operation Dry Water, to remind boaters to not only operate water vehicles sober, but to make sure that all of their safety equipment is in order, and on board. There have been 10 fatalities on Ontario's waterways so far this year, with 24 last year, and some boaters are getting the message. Jonathan Hull had life jackets on all of his three children, and one on hand nearby for himself, on his boat. "I've seen lots of close accidents on the water," Hull said, as his children were

THE ISSUE: INEBRIATED BOATERS LOCAL IMPACT: OPP WILL BE TAKING TO LOCAL WATERWAYS THIS SUMMER TO REMIND BOATERS TO STAY SOBER AND SAFE WITH PROPER EQUIPMENT ON BOARD handed OPP T-shirts for wearing their life jackets. "Today, we were doing a little quick stop. I should have had my jacket on." Among the boats stopped this day, there were many who did not have operational flashlights - either because of no batteries, or because they were wet and not operational. OPP Cons. Russ Beaton had already issued one ticket for a boat not having a fire extinguisher. Another hot topic: "Unfortunately, we are still seeing open alcohol," Beaton said. Back on shore, Newell agreed with Beaton that alcohol was still an issue along with marijuana. "We are starting to see

more of it," he said, of boaters impaired by marijuana. "I wouldn't say its become a real hazard or problem yet, but we definitely have seen an increase." Locally, the main waterways that the OPP will be patrolling will include the Rideau Canal, Otty Lake, and Mississippi Lake. There are 16 marine officers across eastern Ontario. As for the large number of boats lacking proper operating flashlights, Newell said that "it's one of the main safety concerns" on the water. "It seems to be one of the number one things that people tend to neglect. “Even though it's just a flashlight, it's still important ... it's not just to see in the dark, it's a visual signalling device," so you can signal to shore or another boat if you break down or are in trouble.

STORY BEHIND THE STORY

OPP Marine Unit was on Lower Rideau Lake Aug. 2 where they laid several charges for boating infractions. Reporter Desmond Devoy went for a ride-along with the officers to discover the rules of the waterways.

'I LOVE IT HERE:' MUSIC AND MARKET DAYS AT HERITAGE HOUSE MUSEUM PAULINA HREBACKA phrebacka@metroland.com In 1861, a man named Joshua Bates built a home in Smiths Falls with two front doors; one facing the Rideau Canal, and the other facing the Canadian Pacific Railway, because it was rude to greet guests at your back door. Now, the Heritage House Museum is wellknown for its unique mirror-image façade and its contributions to the town's history. Through the summer, the museum is hosting Music and Market Days, where a variety of local vendors are featured every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 11 Old Slys Rd. Live music, games and activities for the whole family are also a part of the recurring event. "We started this event because we wanted to get a market back in Smiths

Falls," said Emily Parker, a summer student at the museum. "It'll bring people to the grounds where they can do some shopping and enjoy the music, and with the park right across the road, it's a great spot to get people out

to enjoy the day." Parker recently took on event marketing for the museum, helping to co-ordinate trivia tours, cemetery tours and more. "I love it here," she said. "This is a very new market,

so we're still working on growing, but we've had a lot of fun so far." The event has been running for about a month and features around 20 unique vendors. Museum staff and vol-

CELEBRATE WITH PRIDE MALLORY DAY mallor yday@metroland.com Get your Pride on, Smiths Falls. The second annual Smiths Falls Pride event is happening Aug. 10, kicking off at 5 p.m. with a parade gathering at town hall leading to Centennial Park. This will be followed by a mini drag performance, pot luck dinner organized by Trinity United Church, and capped with a dance party featuring Starfire at the park from 7 until 11 p.m. Chair of Smiths Falls Pride, James Ae Perkins, said he was astounded at the outcome from last year's event. "Our little town stood out hosting a familyfriendly Pride event," said Perkins. "There was an estimated 500-plus people in the park following the parade." Perkins said he hopes

this will become an annual event, but is having trouble finding volunteers to help, with not only the event but the planning committee as well. "Our simple act of welcoming all, indifferent to their differences, we can be a voice that changes a culture," he said. The Pride flag will be raised at Town Hall on August 6 at 9 a.m. The rainbow flag is a symbol to all residents and visitors that Smiths Falls supports Prides efforts to deter violence and discrimination toward all LGBT+ people. "No human being is perfect," Perkins said, "but our lives can be justified if we use what is unique about

ourselves to make the world better." Parade participants are encouraged to join in the fun. If you're joining the parade, email smithsfallspride@gmail.com. Gather at 5 p.m. and floats are asked to please park on Daniel Street. "March with us!" Pride Smiths Falls Facebook page states. "It's the 50th Anniversary of Stonewall and although this event is framed as a family friendly celebration of diversity, marching is still the core that underlines that we support and demand human rights." Visit their Facebook page if you would like to help in any way, want to become a vendor, bring food, fly flags, decorate, or for more information. To volunteer, email heatherCwhiting@gmail.com.

ETIQUETTE VITAL FOR PUBLIC TRAIL USERS PATH USERS NEED TO BRUSH UP ON PROTOCOL, WRITES JEFF MAGUIRE JEFF MAGUIRE Column

In recent years our options for walking have improved significantly, especially in Lanark County. In the United Kingdom, public walking paths have long been a staple for both confirmed hikers and regular or occasional walkers. The Brits are militant when it comes to their public spaces. In our community in recent years an extensive series of trails has been developed. The town is also on the Trans Canada Trail (it was officially renamed 'The Great Trail' in 2016) which is a cross-Canada system of trails, roadways, greenways and waterways. I find that trail etiquette or lack of it, is an ongoing problem. In Europe, the relationship between users is clearly defined and carefully adhered to. Walkers and cyclists in particular respect each other's space. We regularly visit the resort community of Stowe, Vermont. The town has long had a paved 5.3mile recreation path that is maintained year-round that features several bridges over the west branch of the Little River and the mountain scenery along the way is breathtaking. The Stowe recreation path also has an 11-point set of rules users are asked to obey. I believe all similar recreation trails in Canada can learn from their welltuned example.

On our walks in Carleton Place we encounter many users who do not respect others. One of the most annoying issues is cyclists who fail to warn pedestrians of their presence. In turn pedestrians should look over their shoulders and give cyclists a clear path. Groups of walkers should not be spread across the entire pathway. People don't adhere to the usual rules. They ignore signage, cycling or walking straight past stop signs for instance. Besides being dangerous it also shows a distinct lack of courtesy. The rules of the road also apply to cyclists.

I find that trail etiquette or lack of it, is an ongoing problem. The list of path rules in Stowe urges users to obey all signage and asks cyclists to yield for walkers, joggers or children. Bike riders are also required to maintain a safe speed and at intersections they are advised to stop and walk their bicycles across the road. The bottom line comes down to respect. If we all respect one another then everyone will have a better experience using public paths. Jeff Maguire is a career journalist who lives in Carleton Place, Ont. HENDERSON TAKING TIME OFF BEFORE DEFENDING CP WOMEN'S OPEN TITLE LAURIE WEIR ljweir@metroland.com Smiths Falls Brooke Henderson turned in a T41 finish at the British Open Sunday after an even par round of 72 in Milton Keynes, England. She finished at 2-under for the tournament on rounds of 69-71-74-72, for a payday of US$22,439. Winning the tournament was Japan's Hinako Shibuno at 18-under, just one stroke ahead of Lizette Salas of the United States. Shibuno birdied the 18th hole for the $675,000 championship prize. Henderson announced on Instagram Sunday that she enjoyed playing in Europe over the past two weeks, but and is looking forward to some time off. She finished T17 at the

Evian Championship in France last week. "Enjoyed playing in front of the European fans these past couple weeks at (at the Evian Championship) and (AIG Women's British Open)! Looking forward to some time off before the Canadian Pacific Women's Open" where she is the defending champ. The open will be held this year at the Magna Golf Club in Aurora, Ont. Aug 19-25. Henderson won the tournament in Saskatchewan last summer. This year, SickKids Foundation has been chosen as the primary charity partner for the tournament. Child ambassador, Kyle Hayhoe, was four months old when diagnosed with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy at seven weeks of age

and required a heart transplant. He can be found on the golf course perfecting his game, when not at SickKids for regular checkups. Funds raised this year will help upgrade an outdated cardiac operating suite at SickKids. CP will also donate to Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Ont. to support cardiac care in the York Region. Southlake will receive up to $250,000. Last year, Henderson made history in Saskatchewan. Henderson locked up the trophy - one she'd been eyeing up for some time with a birdie on her final hole to finish at 21 under par, four strokes ahead of her nearest competitor. It was the first time since 1973 that a Canadian has won this national championship. Henderson shot a final round 7-under 65. Her four-day total was 267 (-21), earning her the US$337,500 prize.

LOCAL EQUESTRIAN SET FOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS LAURIE WEIR ljweir@metroland.com Little Rock Farm of Perth is home to some world-class riders, not to mention the extraordinary horses. If you were to mention the horses, one would recognize Vallata (Dale), as a world champion buckskin beauty. Just last year, Vallata earned Grand Champion Stallion at the International Bucksin Horse Association (IBHA) Warmup to the World, IBHA World Champion Open, two-year-old stallion, and IBHA Reserve World Champion, amateur stallion - all ages. But he's not done yet. Before he retires from the show ring at the end of this

A

season, Vallata is heading to the world stage. This year, Amy Himmelman is taking her prized stallion to the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Select World Champion Show in Fort Worth, Texas. It will be her first time attending this event, but not the first time to qualify. Last year, the costs were too high to attend; she also qualified in 1999. This is an invitationonly event, based on points accumulated over the previous year. The cost to participate? Between $8,000 and $10,000. "This is above and beyond words," Himmelman said of her trip to worlds this year. "I qualified last year, but couldn't afford it. It's a bucket list thing to

do." To be competing at this world-class event with her beloved equine, is something that's she dreamed about for some time, she said. "I would be glad to place in the top five," she said. "Maybe a bronze." If Vallata has his way, and he certainly knows his job when he gets into the ring, Himmelman said, he'll put on a grand champion performance. After last year's win at the IBHA World Show in Cloverdale, Ind., Vallata accumulated a few more wins across Ontario, making Himmelman "prouder than a peacock." Himmelman takes great pride in working all of her horses at Little Rock Farm,

pouring her heart and soul into the champions she's creating. She has worked on a farm her entire life ... endless early mornings and late nights. Her passion is teaching children the love of horses. Her love of horses is evident with a stable full of red and blue ribbons, plaques, trophies, and certificates of her champion animals. "We do everything here," she said in terms of training her show horses. "On our own ... it's a big deal and it makes me proud. Here in Perth I have a stallion who's world class and has a lot of potential." Vallata has young offspring now, siring three fillies: A bay, a chestnut and a buckskin. Himmelman said she's going to work with two of them over the winter to see if they have show potential. In the meantime, she's gearing up for some competitions before heading to Texas on Aug. 25. It will take about two days to

Of the more than 1,046 facilities reporting to the Toxics Reduction Program, 40 per cent intended to implement ways to reduce at least one toxic substance. Their initiative was commended by experts, who are against the program’s cancellations. For the final instalment of A Toxic Decision?, a Torstar Community Brands multi-part web-exclusive series, we set out to discover how these facilities devised their plan and what impacts — if any — implementation had on their operations. This should have been a good news story for industry, but manufacturers representing a variety of sectors across Ontario snubbed repeated requests for comments.

SUMMER ALWAYS BROUGHT VISITS FROM THE TRAVELLING SALESMAN THE TWO MYSTERIOUS VISITORS BROKE THE MONOTONY, MARY COOK WRITES Every day was the same during the summer, I thought. One day stretched into another, and the excitement that came when the two-month school holiday began had worn off. Having relatives come broke the monotony, and having a friend over helped, but certainly having a visit from the Rawleigh man during a long summer month was something to look forward to. We never knew when he

MARY COOK Column

was coming, but we certainly knew when he was about to arrive. He sang at the top of his lungs all the way in our long lane, which sent our dog Sport heading for the barn, and gave us warning that he was on his way. He had been coming for years, and knew us children by name, and called Mother just plain Mrs. He carried two big black suitcases, and never asked if it was a good time to visit, but simply took one at a time out of the back of his buggy, nodding to whoever was standing closest to the

kitchen door. He went right to the old pine table and hoisted up both cases, never stopped talking about what a glorious day it was, how blessed we were to live on a farm, be in good health, and have enough food to keep us alive. How he knew all this was beyond me. We kids sat on the benches at the table, as the Rawleigh man laid out his wares, handling each item as if it was made of gold, and telling of its virtues, and how no kitchen or home should be without it. But Mother was no pushover. She put aside only what was absolutely needed, like vanilla and tinned mustard. Just before the man made his final pitch, he reached down into the

very bottom of his suitcase (and this is what we children were waiting for), he hauled out a little round case of sewing needles, handed it to Mother, and said "something for the Mrs." The visit was over. Another caller to the farm every summer was from a man whose name we never knew. He was simply called "the picker." He was of dark complexion, wore a little round cap affair on the back of his head, and had a smile that could light up a darkened room. He spoke so softly, you could hardly hear him, but he came to see Father, who seemed to know exactly what the man was saying and what he wanted. He never came near the house, but drove his buggy right

up to the barn where he and Father would be doing business. I was especially interested in his horse. It wasn't at all like our team, heavy work horses, with burr-filled tails and who had never had a curry comb touch their bodies. The picker's horse was sleek as silk, with thin legs, and its bridle shone like silver and with harness of the finest leather. It matched the buggy, which had been added to, to give it a longer look and with a box affair attached to the back where the picker put whatever he could buy from Father. He was interested only in hides and rags. From "putting down" our meat for the smoke house, the hides had been carefully stored in the barn awaiting a visit from the picker who seemed to know exactly when to come. The rags where simply old, and no longer of any use, grain bags which when emptied were piled in a heap in a corner of the barn. There never seemed to

be much negotiation over prices. Both Father and the picker simply nodded to each other, a wad of bills was taken out of the man's pocket, he peeled off a couple, and Father pocketed the money with a simple handshake. I thought the visitor was a cut above the Rawleigh man, because he was so polite, never made small talk, was there to do business and be on his way. And he wore a suit, which to me, was another indication that he was a man of higher standing. Both visitors to our farm during those long summer days were what I looked forward to. Never knowing exactly when they would be coming, but assured they would come, added to the excitement. They broke the monotony, if only for a few hours on a hot summer day. Mary Cook is a local columnist who appears regularly in the Ottawa Valley and Brighton newspapers.

Mallory Day/Torstar The Bresee House is being torn down in Portland July 30. officer, to the Record News last week. "This drove the $21,500 abatement cost. The demo quote (post abatement) came in at $9,500 with local disposal in Portland landfill before July 31 closure. So the total cost will $32,000. The budget was $15,000." The demolition met with some backlash in the

community; some of whom wanted to see the building restored. The property was listed as heritage interest, and featured in the townshipdistributed Heritage Map and Walking Tour of Portland. It is not designated. Designated properties are somewhat more protected under the Heritage Act.

Otter Lake Outlet and Bass Lake Outlet Studies The Township engaged an independent engineering firm, JP2G, to: • review the current Otter and Bass Lake outlets, • determine the range of technical options available to address stakeholder concerns; • conduct inclusive and informed public consultation; and • determine a preferred option for changes to the outlets, if any. JP2G has delivered their report, including recommended actions, to Council. Council is seeking resident and stakeholder input on the JP2G report and its findings. A survey will be open from August 6 to 21. • The online survey for Otter Lake can be accessed and completed here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6PMYRL9; • The online survey for Bass Lake can be accessed and completed here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6HH9VZC; • paper copies can be obtained and returned to Mike Dwyer, CAO, at the Chantry office (1439 County Rd 8, Delta ON K0E 1G0), or via email at mdwyer@rideaulakes.ca Following the close of the survey, JP2G will be reviewing all feedback received, cataloging it in a supplemental report, addressing question and concerns raised, and updating their original recommendation if/as required. The supplemental public feedback report will be delivered to Council at their September 3, 2019 meeting. It is anticipated that, at this meeting, Council will discuss and debate this supplemental report as well as the original report and its recommendations.

RIDEAU LAKES MUNICIPAL OFFICE FLIES PRIDE FLAG MALLORY DAY mallor yday@metroland.com The Township of Rideau Lakes is showing all-inclusive solidarity. Township staff raised the Pride flag for the first time at the municipal office in Chantry on Aug.1. Council received a letter from Portland residents, Rachel Epstein, Mary Daniel, Marcia Cannon, who expressed an interest in raising the Pride flag in Portland. "Several of us in Portland have been talking about how wonderful it would be if we could raise a Pride flag in the town to honour and celebrate LGBTQ communities and people," their letter stated. "It would be a symbol for the inclusive and

Council addressed the idea at their July 22 council meeting and decided to fly the flag at the municipal office instead of Portland as a way to say they're all inclusive to everyone of the township, not just in one community. "Pleased that council agreed to fly the Pride flag for one week at the township office at the request of some residents from Portland," said Rideau Lakes Mayor Arie Hoogenboom in an email to the Record News. "We need to be inclusive of all in the community." The Pride flag will fly until Aug. 8.

THE MAGICAL WORLD OF NARNIA COMES TO LIFE IN SMITHS FALLS THIS SUMMER "You can't imagine how beautiful it was" sings Tumnus to Lucy, describing Narnia before the White Witch turned it into a cold winter wasteland. The musical Narnia was written by Jules Tasca, the music composed by Thomas Tierney, and the lyrics by Ted Drachman. It is based on C.S. Lewis' classic story of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Together they created a unique, enchanted show filled with magical creatures and spirits. The story is set during the Second World War and begins with the four Pevensie children, Peter (Wilson Pearl, alt. Xander Duff), Susan (Juliet Alfaro, alt. Janis Nam), Lucy (Madison Thompson, alt. Avery Burt) and Edmond (Holden Anderson, alt. Aaron Sinclair) travelling to Professor Digory Kirke's (Michel Doyon) manor to be safe from the London bombings. There they encounter a strict housekeeper, Mrs. Macready (Anne-Marie LaferriĂŠre) who makes them feel unwelcome, and is unsympathetic to their situation, so the children escape by a strange portal and find themselves in Narnia, a strange and at times scary world. When confronted with temptation and ethical challenges, as well as very strange creatures like the faun Tumnus (Jeff Schiissler), talking Beavers (Stef Robar and Nancy Keech), a White Witch (Jane Browning) and her sidekick Dwarf (Addison Brown) the children ultimately respond with courage, unselfishness and wisdom. The Smiths Falls Community Theatre has a tradition of choosing summer shows that involve young children and as this show provided a great number of opportunities to involve young actors, it was chosen

Katharine Coleman photo Cast members are Wilson Pearl (Peter - with sword), Owen Pearl (wolf victim), Tia Duff (Fenris Ulf - at back), Brady McKay (Upper left wolf) pulling Lucy (Madison Thompson), as Susan (Juliet Alfaro) and Edmund (Holden Anderson) try to save her. as their 2019 season's summer offering. Narnia was also selected since director Lynda Daniluk loved these stories, having read them all as a young person, and again as an "older person!" In all, there are 38 cast members, of which 26 are young actors, the youngest being seven, and many are on stage for their first time. When counting all the crew, the total people involved comes to 60, all who have and will volunteer countless numbers of hours to bring this story to life. Why so many you might ask? Well, there are the vocal coaches, Bev McArthur and Wena Pearl, helping everyone learn the 15 songs of the show; dance choreography by Stacey Heuff; the always creative set design by Bill Hamilton and his sidekick Tony McNeill; set painting by multiple artists; costumes for all 38 (some who needed more than one) by Sandy Bradley; persons to watch over the young 'uns; persons to gather props; help Sandy with the sewing; tech people led by Tim Bissiaillon to design and provide lighting, sound and other special effects. Yes, there are special effects, maybe even some magical

ones - like snow in the middle of summer. With so much time, effort and talent invested we hope many come to watch them as they wind their way through the mysteries of Narnia. The show runs Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee show is on Sunday, Aug. 11 at 2 p.m. The second weekend runs Thursday to Saturday, Aug. 15 to 17 at 7:30 p.m. and finishes up with a matinee on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students and can be purchased with cash at Special Greetings, 8 Russell St.; online or by phone (613-283-0300) with credit card. If tickets are still available, they can be purchased a half-hour before showtime, at the door, with cash. For more info: www.smithsfallstheatre.com. Submitted by The Smiths Falls Community Theatre

OPP TO RELOCATE RIDEAU LAKES SATELLITE OFFICE TO PORTLAND The Rideau Lakes satellite detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police will be relocating to the former Rideau Centennial Public School, on Highway 15 in Portland. The school closed in the summer of 2017, after the Upper Canada School Board declared it surplus. A local developer purchased the property, and the township has been engaged in negotiations to secure a turnkey space for the OPP. The 3,000-sqare-foot space, representing approximately a quarter of the former school, will provide a modern and central location for local North Leeds OPP operations. The facility comes at a nominal cost to the township over what it would otherwise pay to the OPP under the standard provincial formula if it did not

provide a space for the satellite detachment. "This is a win-win for the community. The OPP will be able to provide timely and efficient service to all of Rideau Lakes through this central location," said Mayor Ari Hoogenboom. "For approximately $5,000 more than the OPP accommodation charge otherwise payable, we have secured a longterm OPP operational presence in our community and a future for the former school. To me, that is great value for dollar." Given the active patrol nature of modern policing, South Elmsley ward residents will not realize a decline in policing services. It is anticipated they will see improved overall municipal services, as the relocation marks the first step in a renewal of the South Elmsley Municipal Complex.

The 2020 budget will consider funding to relocate the South Elmsley library branch into the former OPP space. As the second-highest volume branch of the library, the current location in the Lombardy Elementary School provides significant service limitations for residents, notably hours of operation. Co-locating the library with the community hall allows for better integration of municipal services, more efficient overall operations and enhanced programming options. The ultimate goal is to transform the South Elmsley Municipal Complex into to a vibrant community hub and destination. This move is planned for the first quarter of 2020. Their apartments are quality-built from the inside out. This is emphasized with thick concrete, high R-value insulation, and reliable services that exceed regulated standards. The Lépine family has a personal stake in their properties and take pride in their work. They grew from a small homebuilder into one of the region’s most sought-after developers and building management specialists. They employ personable, caring, and experienced staff whose primary goal is to ensure the needs of their residents are addressed efficiently and effectively. They also understand that one size doesn’t necessarily fit all. It’s why each of their buildings offer an array of apartment layouts, at varying price points available with flexible rental agreements designed to suit your specific needs. Lépine’s new building in Carleton Place, “Johanne’s Court” opened at the beginning of July this year. It offers a variety of amenities to give residents a rich and diverse living experience. It is the first of its kind in town — a low-rise,

concrete frame with underground parking and suites that range from 926 to 1,389 square feet, and is conveniently located near the downtown core and outdoor activities. The first phase of the building is almost completely leased up as they begin to lease phase two.
