Editor’s note
This month’s edition is dear to my heart and is all about celebrating the invaluable contributions of women from all walks of life to society. As we navigate the changing family dynamics and roles of women in society, it’s important for both men and women to work together towards creating a more harmonious life.
In ancient times, family structures were different, with bigger, multigenerational households and stronger family bonds. Women had more childcare support from family. Today, it’s commendable that women are at the forefront of business and can explore a more freedom-based lifestyle. However, this has adversely affected their ability for childbearing and childcare due to lack of support.
This edition is not an attempt to offer solutions or harp on the issues, but rather a thought-starter for all of us. It aims to share stories and thought-provoking vignettes for us to reflect on and consider.
Let’s come together to create a society that is inclusive and equitable for all.

New Amenity Trends - Rise of Women in Business + Travel
As women continue to enter the workforce by choice or due to their life circumstances or changing family structures, it’s important to take a holistic approach to our built environments. Whether it’s an office, hotel, or airport or any other real estate asset class, we must consider how to support our changing lifestyles and challenges. Let’s work towards creating inclusive spaces that meet the needs of all individuals. Above are some of the examples of how childcare + women support is incorporated in the design.

This collage showcases the diverse infrastructure that can support children’s learning environments. As we all know, education, culture, and manners are invaluable assets that shape our future generations. While not all countries have the luxury of building expensive infrastructures, investing in children’s education is crucial for their future success. Let’s continue to prioritize education for all children, regardless of their economic circumstances.

Celebrating Women in Business of Childcare
Sara has worked in the early childhood field for over 15 years and holds a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Indiana University. After college, she immersed herself in teaching young children in New Zealand for four years. She was inspired by the universal respect and appreciation the country held for the early years and she strives to bring those values to Barnette Academy.
Since then, Sara’s experiences in the field have ranged from classroom teacher to administrative roles as Assistant Director and, most recently, Program Director at a private preschool in Lincoln Park. While there, she held a high standard for the daily operation of the school and successfully passed yearly inspections and maintained full enrollment.
Sara lives with her husband in Logan Square and is dedicated to becoming an asset in the community by providing a safe and secure school where families can grow.
Big shout out to Sara for pursuing her dreams and creating this unique business !!

Excited to share our latest project, Barnette Academy! Our team drew inspiration from client’s love for Mid-Century-Modern design philosophy, incorporating clean lines and modern geometry while balancing organic shapes for interior spaces. As a daycare center, we wanted to create a harmonious and clutter-free environment that inspires children to learn and grow. Our design fuses indoor and outdoor elements. We’re thrilled to provide a premier academy with a sophisticated and timeless design style.

Check out this amazing central atrium rendering for a daycare! The indoor play area space provides a special design feature where kids can unleash their creative energy and explore other play areas outside of their classrooms. The design team created creative nooks for children to play, including a nook under the staircase for storyboarding exercises. Additionally, the space boasts a kitchen/ food area for staff to host events for parents and the community.
