The Lost Star

The Lost Star

A pure bright light shot across the sky. It raced faster and faster, until it exploded like a firework, lighting up the darkness as it shattered into pieces.

3

Far below on earth, people looked up and followed the pieces of the star on their journey towards earth. The pieces scattered the land, flung far and wide to the very corners of the earth.

4

Many people and creatures stopped looking and went back to their lives and forgot all about the little star and its fiery end. Some, however, could not forget. Some saw where it fell, saw its parts glowing faintly in the night, sending out a silent call for help.

Some were chosen.

The Lost Star ~ The Elephant~ ~ Compassion ~

The elephant stood absolutely still. Not daring to move or breathe as she traced the glowing light across the sky. Her calf leaned against her for comfort. The elephant followed the glowing light and gasped in wonder at the lights blazing across the sky. The lights raced faster and faster. One of the glowing lights headed towards them and fell downwards through the sky and landed with a splash in their watering hole.

7

The compassionate elephant ran towards the water, to respond to the cry for help. She waded in and held the little diamond in her trunk. It felt alive in her arms, but she could feel that it was in pain and needed her help. She looked at her calf and the rest of the herd. They could feel it too. They all felt compassion towards the little diamond.

They held their trunks in the air and let out a cry. A cry for the little lost diamond. The compassionate elephants moved as one to find a way to help the diamond on its journey back to being a star.

The Lost Star ~ The Penguin ~

~ Responsibility ~

The night was bright, and the little penguin stood on the rocks like a statue, huddled over his precious egg, keeping it safe. He watched in awe as blazing lights shot across the night sky. The lights raced faster and faster.

One of the glowing lights was heading towards him and his colony. Falling towards their island home, zooming through the night until it crash landed into the water.

10

The responsible penguin, glued to his position keeping their egg warm, looked around for help. His partner understood his feelings and waddled towards the water. She dived into the depths of the sea to fetch the lost little diamond. She held it between her flippers. It felt alive but she knew it needed her help.

She felt determined as she clasped the small glowing light. The penguins could feel the star’s pain. It was lost and the penguins knew they wanted to help it. They were responsible for the little star now. They raised their beaks into the air and let out a cry. She moved away, trusting her partner to be responsible and care for their egg as she set out on her journey to help the lost star.

The Lost Star ~ The Lion ~

~ Pride and Respect ~

The pride were staring up at the sky. They watched as bright lights raced faster and faster across the night sky. One of the glowing lights was heading towards them. It fell towards their grasslands, zooming through the night until it crash landed with a thud on the ground.

13

The lioness crept forward through the long grass and approached the glowing light. She could feel that it was lost and needed help. She touched the dimly glowing light. It had chosen her to help it and her heart filled with honour. The lions could all feel the diamond’s pain. It was lost and the lions knew they wanted to help it. They felt such pride at being chosen to do such a special job.

They tossed back their heads and roared into the night. A cry for the little diamond. The other lions watched as she set off into the night to find a way to help the little lost star be reunited with its missing parts.

The Lost Star ~ The Mice ~

~ Resilience ~

The mice stared up into the night. They ran in circles confused and scared by the strange lights above them. The lights raced faster and faster across the night sky. One of the glowing lights was heading towards them. Falling towards their cosy home in the corn field, it crash landed in the corn with a thump.

16

The mice gathered together for safety. They approached the glowing light slowly and carefully. They gathered their courage and responded to the little diamond’s silent cry for help. One little mouse bravely approached. She could feel that it had chosen them to help it.

They tried to lift the diamond, but it was too large and heavy for them. The other mice gathered around and worked together to lift the diamond. They knew that together they could achieve anything. The diamond felt alive in their arms but the mice felt the diamond’s pain. It was lost and the mice knew they wanted to help it. They found their resilience to not give up. They held the diamond high. Their squeaks echoed into night. A cry for the little diamond. They set off into the night to find a way to help reunite the little lost star.

The Lost Star ~ The child ~

~ Curiosity

~

A child was looking out their bedroom window. Their house was silent as everyone was asleep but they were restless and could not sleep. They saw a blinding light zoom across the sky and watched as a shooting star exploded. One of the glowing lights was heading towards them. Falling towards their garden, streaking through the night until it landed in their garden.

19

The child hurried down the stairs and went outside into the midnight garden. They curiously approached the glowing diamond on the ground. They sat down beside the broken star and scooped it up with their gentle hands. The child could feel the sadness of the little light.

The child felt curious about what this little diamond was and where it had come from. They knew it needed to find its lost parts. They hugged the little light to their chest and sat down together in the long grass and waited.

20

The Lost Star ~ United ~

The different animals travelled through the night and across the land. They followed with the star in their arms, letting the star guide them. Finally, they could feel that they were getting closer. They came forward from different directions and found a small child sitting in the grass. They slowly approached and formed a circle around the child. They could hear the diamond pieces calling out to each other.

22

The lion crept forward towards the child. The diamond floated away from the lion’s mouth and joined together with the fading light in the child’s arms. The penguin waddled towards the child. Again, the piece floated away and joined together with the light in the child’s arms.

One by one the animals approached; the mice working together, the elephant passing it over with care. They watched with amazement as their little diamonds joined together into a beautiful bright glowing star.

23

The child raised their arms into the air and the little star started to rise.

The star hovered for a moment, shining down on the animals who had kept her safe. The star filled their hearts with love. Suddenly the star shot back up into the night sky and proudly retook her position in the night.

The animals looked up to see their beautiful star. Wherever they were in the world, they would always be able to find their special star. They knew that the star would guide them and help them shine like stars. They snuggled together and dreamt of starry adventures and working together to achieve their goals.
