Community Cat

Connection

Wesley

Wesley without a T again. I'm the cat voted likely first to be adopted and yet I'm still here. Actually... I WAS chosen once, but hurried back because I had a nervous belly. I'm a three year old black beauty but still think I'm a human baby, so I need close cuddles and reassurance so I can relax. Being in a shelter has made me tense when I was first discovered, all I wanted to do was eat, boop noses with other kitties and lay my head in a human's hand. I love the closeness of my people and one of my favorite things is to act like a leopard and pretend your limbs are tree branches. You should only look at me if you're a cat person, because I'm a cat who loves all people. Young and old, I'm your forever boy. The CCC is in need of supplies, especially litter (Scoop Away), bleach, laundry detergent, dry and wet cat and kitten food (Purina/Friskies), paper towels, trash bags, and treats! Any help is very much appreciated! We are located at 289 Thompson Road in Webster and are open Thursday through Sunday 12pm-3:30pm. You can see more of our adoptable cats on Petfinder and Adopt-a-pet and we would love it if you would follow us and share our kitties on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com /pages/Community-Cat Connection/18375625177438. Please email us at info@ccatconnect.org for any questions!

3 tips to refresh your home and your spirit this spring

(BPT) - Every spring, the changing season brings a desire for renewal. It's a time of growth, transition and revitalization. The latest trend in home cleaning popularized by Marie Kondo reveals what many of us yearn for - not just decluttering, but a fresh start, a clean slate. We dream of an open, airy, bright home where everyone can thrive and be their best selves. But how do we get there, when our houses are filled with stuff - not to mention the accumulated dust and stale air of winter? Here are three ways you can reenergize your home and yourself this spring. Take a tour of your home Whether mentally or literally, tour your home with a notebook or tablet and jot down the areas causing you the most tension or stress when you look at them. Is it the laundry pile that never seems to go away in the bedroom? The kitchen cabinet that's so overstuffed that something falls out every time you open it?

Getting a better grasp on asthma causes and management

• Allergies: Certain allergic conditions are linked to people with asthma. Seasonal allergies may compound asthma symptoms.

People with asthma often fear the next attack. As a chronic inflammatory condition, asthma causes the airways to narrow and swell and produce extra mucus. This makes breathing very difficult, and also can cause wheezing and coughing fits, advises the Mayo Clinic.

• Environment: Contact with allergens, irritants or even certain infections as an infant or in early childhood before the immune system matures is tied to asthma. Adult-onset asthma is often linked to exposure to chemicals or dust in the workplace.

Time to replace old wiring?

Old homes can be charming and contain architectural elements not often seen in many modern housing developments. But what older homes may have in design appeal, they may lack in updated features. While cosmetic changes are not necessarily difficult, one area of concern in historic homes — and sometimes even in houses built 40 or 50 years ago — is archaic wiring. Wiring provides power to every room of the home. In today’s electronics-driven society, electricity that works is an essential component of daily life. Over time, wiring can be compromised through simple aging, pest infiltration, weather, or other conditions. Deteriorated

Furthermore, the home improvement site This Old House advises that the amperage of old wiring may not be able to meet the needs of the devices used in homes — overpowering the circuits. Additional outlets, including GFCI outlets in kitchens and bathrooms, may be part of the plan, as well as rewiring a fuse box or circuit panel to allow for better flow of power around the house. Frayed wiring or underinsulated wiring also may need to be replaced. Owners of old homes should recognize possible electrical system dangers that require attention. Plus, considering electrical codes change quite frequently, it is always in a homeowner’s best interest to work with a qualified electrician to keep wiring inspected and up to date.
