Sloane FC welcome West Essex to Hackney Marshes Centre. Sloane play West Essex in the battle of show pitch 2 today. West Essex share our pitch and also bragging rights between the two clubs, having won 2-0 in their first meeting earlier in the season. West Essex’s first season in Premier Division has started well. Sitting mid-table beating the teams below them and only narrowly losing to the teams above. However form through November wasn’t good, losing all their games in the league and failing to score. A 1-0 victory last weekend to struggling Sporting
Hackney will bring them into this game determined to get another win before the Christmas break. Sloane have picked themselves up from that loss back in August and got a 5-3 win against Indian Gymkhana 3 days later. It has then been a battle to keep a consistent side and keep results positive, but they have now broken into the top 5. Last week Sloane travelled to Windsor to play Singh Sabbha and were bitterly disappointed with a draw. They had to start the game with 8 men due to 3 players becoming lost and
not arriving until 25mins after kick-off. When Sloane became full strength the began to attack and it was a welcome return to the 1st team for Reece Cripcoza who scored his 4th in 11 league games. It wasn’t quite enough though. As Sloane gave away a penalty to see them throw away the lead at the start of the 2nd half. Sloane are unbeaten in 4 league games and keen to make this 5 in this final game before Christmas. Good luck to both teams and please join us for a beer after the game. Saturday 17th December

Sloane FC was established in 2007, and now in their 5th season the club has ambitions for promotion to Step 6 and silverware in the cabinet. Sloane 1sts play in the Middlesex County Football League Premier Division. Sloane Reserves play in the MCFL Senior Reserve Division. In their inaugural season (07/08) Sloane reached the semifinal of the London FA Junior Cup and finished 4th in MCFL Division 1 Central & East. Sloane got promoted in 09/10 to Premier Division and have stayed their ever since. Narrowly surviving on the final day last season. Thanks to the Football Foundation, Sloane introduced a Sunday team for the 10/11 season who did well in their debut season being title contenders up until the final couple of game. Continuing in the 11/12 season they play in the Central London Sunday Super League Premier Division on Sunday Afternoons. Sloane also have a Ladies team this season playing the Greater London Women’s League Div 3 North. The club celebrates it’s 5th Anniversary this season with many more social events and fundraising opportunities. The Opponents West Essex West Essex FC are based in Highams Park, East London. The club caters for players of all ages and abilities with 2 senior sides, 2 veterans sides and a successful and rapidly expanding colts section. The 1st team now play at Hackney Marshes. The Reserves and Vets sides continue to use the Rolls Sports Ground in Highams Park.

The brainchild of former West Essex Cricket Club stalwart John Spinks, West Essex FC formed in 1989. Initially the objective was to keep some of the Cricket Club members in touch throughout the winter and generate a bit of much-needed income through the club bar on a Saturday afternoon. Two senior sides entered the Ilford & Districts league. Success came rather more quickly than expected with promotion and a cup win in our inaugural season. in 1991, the 1st team ended the dominance of local rivals Westill and won the Premier Division of the Ilford & Districts Football League and the league cup. 2 years later, they repeated their league success and the Reserves won Division 3 completing a truly breath-taking first few seasons for all involved with the club. Plans for expansion were in place. An ‘A’ team was added for the 1993-94 season and the 1st & Reserve teams moved to the more competitive Essex Business Houses League. Unfortunately, this signalled the beginning of an unhappy and less successful era for the club. By the late 90’s, internal disagreements had lead to the departure of many senior players and the management team that had overseen the club’s early successes. The trophies dried up and the club went through a period of great uncertainty. As we entered the new millennium, founder John Spinks left for the Emerald Isle and current Chairman Stuart Higson took over the day to day running of the club. Success continued to be hard to come by. Indeed, in 2003-04, West Essex finished bottom of the EBHFL Premier Division and were relegated for the first time in their proud history. Under the leadership of veteran full-back Veli Bekir, the 1st team bounced straight back to the top division the very
next season. Regrettably, despite the return to the top division, all was not well and it wasn’t long before internal politics once again conspired to cause major disagreements between players and the club management. In 2007-08, the 1st XI effectively folded and the club ran one senior side which finished rock-bottom of the EBHFL Division 1. Towards the end of that deeply unhappy season, a man in a Lacoste tracksuit with a talented son emerged as a front-runner for the vacant coaching position. Secretary Dan Reading was quick to secure his signature and former general secretary of the CND Gary Lefley took charge of the side the following season. A proper pre-season, previously unknown of levels of pre-match preparation, several hundred thousand toe-taps, a couple of new signings and 30 odd goals from his son made Gary’s first season a very successful one as West Essex lifted the EBHFL Division 1 title. With success came an influx of new players and in 2008-09 we were fortunate enough to be able to reinstate the Reserve team who promptly won a trophy in their first season. The young first team had what could best be described as a character building season back in the EBHFL Premier Division. At the end of the 2008-09 season, Gary Lefley handed in his resignation and left to manage local rivals Ryan FC of the Essex Intermediate League. Faced with another season in the increasingly ill-disciplined top division of the EBHFL, the management took the decision to withdraw the 1st XI and move them to the Middlesex County Football League. Elderly centre-back Dan Reading hung up his boots, slipped on his sheepskin and took on the role of Gaffer. Senior player, Gary Barnett took over as Assistant Manager and veteran full-back Veli Bekir took on the coaching duties. The season that followed will live long in the memory as, in May 2011, it culminated with another trophy being added to the cabinet as West Essex were crowned champions of the MCFL Division 1 Central & East.

Sloane Round-Up Reserves & Sundays Reserves 1-3 loss A loss at the weekend to top side Sandgate was a disappointing result according to captain Dave Smith.Dave felt that with a full strength squad they could have got something from the game. With only 1 defender and 1 sub the team was as makeshift as it could have been.
Sundays 3-2 win Sundays League table Sundays jumped to top of the league and are 2 pts clear meaning they will definately be top no matter the result of next weekends clash with Recreatvio FC. Sloane came from behind twice to secure a hard fought victory against SS Ladzio, with Barry Henderson netting twice what a pest! Saturday 17th December
