Rick Hansen Foundation awards YVR with gold certification

YVR recently received an Accessibility Certified Gold rating under the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) program.

YVR is the first airport to receive the rating and is the highest rated building in the program.

“YVR welcomed a record 25-million passengers [in 2018] and for us it’s very important that every one of these passengers has a seamless and comfortable airport experience,” said Craig Richmond, president and CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority.

January YVR construction update

Community

YVR is busy expanding to meet its growing passenger demand, while also improving the airport experience for everyone.

There are several ongoing key projects taking place at YVR to enhance the airport experience for everyone. These include YVR’s biggest sustainability projects to date, new parking options, terminal expansions and much more.

Terminal • There will be various improvements to a section of Pier B, in the Domestic terminal. As part of this work, there will be hoarding and phased closures of two passenger hold rooms as well as a scaffolding structure in a corridor. Work is anticipated

to be complete by June 2019.

• As part of the International Pier D expansion project, steel work has begun. This will take place airside and may include noisy work.

Given that there are 24-hour operations in this part of the terminal this could potentially be disruptive for those with flights at nearby gates.

Travellers who are looking for somewhere quiet can find seating in the creek area, located near the food court.

• There may be intermittent noise within the U.S. pre-board screening area as

well as U.S. Customs during daytime hours. This work is being done to improve YVR’s processes for transfer passengers.

• In November 2018, construction began on an enclosed area between the International and Domestic terminals to create a temporary baggage system, during which time there may be intermittent noise. Work is expected to be completed in July 2019.

In and around Sea Island • Various work is continuing in the old Value Lot (adjacent to

the Parkade) for the construction of a new six-storey parking lot and Central Utilities Building. A new toll plaza is now open and is the first permanent structure of the new Parkade. Please follow all directional signage in the area.

• As part of ongoing construction for YVR’s new Parkade and Central Utilities Building, preparatory work started outside International Arrivals on level 2 in Chester Johnson Park. In order to facilitate the work, a section of the park is now closed. The pet relief area and Japadog food

cart will remain in the current location.

• Construction started in November 2018 on the Great Blue Heron MultiUse Pathway. The project is expected to be complete this month. The path will connect to the existing path on Airport Road, connecting alongside Larry Berg Flight Path Park, across Russ Baker Way to Cessna Drive.

• Construction is underway to prepare for Phase II of the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Vancouver Airport.

2018 Highlights At the end of 2018, BorderXpress had processed almost 250-million passengers at 42 airport and seaport locations around the world and sold more than 1,600 kiosks.

In early 2018, ITS celebrated the installation of two BorderXpress kiosks onboard Ferries del Caribe’s passenger cruise ship, the MV Kydon. This marked a milestone for the industry as Ferries del Caribe became the first-ever cruise operator in the world to install border control kiosks onboard a cruise ship or ferry.

ITS expanded its BorderXpress solution into the European market with the installation of 74 kiosks at Pafos International Airport and Larnaka International Airport in Cyprus.

ITS also sold 16 BorderXpress kiosks to Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) in Barbados for use by residents, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) region and those who hold permanent or indefinite status in Barbados.

In 2018, ITS expanded its portfolio of industry-leading technology with the launch of CheckItXpress. ITS partnered with Glidepath, a leader in baggage handling solutions to bring the world’s most accessible, efficient and intuitive self-service bag drop to market.

There are now 10 CheckItXpress positions in place at YVR, which have processed

YVR is operated by Vancouver Airport Authority, a financially-independent organization that is governed by a non-political Board of Directors appointed from the community. Its unique operating model allows for greater support and investment in the community, with every dollar earned by the Airport Authority being reinvested into the operation and growth of the airport to improve facilities, enhance services, reduce costs and support community initiatives.

YVR plays a significant role in the local, provincial and national economy—creating jobs and driving business activity.

The airport supports 24,000 jobs on Sea Island and more than 100,000 jobs across the province.

Its operations—together with tourism and cargo—contribute more than $16-billion in total economic output, $8.4-billion in GDP and $1.4-billion in government revenue across B.C. Growth projections show that YVR will serve 32-million pas-

sengers by 2022, with 29-million passengers targeted for 2020.

YVR has also updated its targets to facilitate the movement of 327,000 tonnes of cargo and serve 144 destinations by 2020— currently YVR connects people and businesses to 127 non-stop destinations worldwide.

Each new flight through YVR creates hundreds of jobs and contributes millions of dollars in economic benefit to the province.

To accommodate this continued growth, YVR embarked on an ambitious 20-year, $9.1-billion expansion program in early 2018. These expansion projects have additional significant economic and employment benefits in the region. For example, construction activities at YVR created nearly 2,500 fulltime construction jobs on Sea Island in 2018, hundreds more off-site and are expected to sustain thousands of jobs for the next two decades.

YVR and Quest Food Exchange raised a record 1,288 food hampers for families in need during the annual Holiday Hamper Drive held at YVR.

Last month, YVR and Quest Food Exchange collected a record 1,288 food hampers, just in time for the holiday season.

The hampers, which included meal essentials and festive favourites, were collected and counted at the annual Holiday Hamper

Drive event held at YVR. For every hamper filled, YVR donated a turkey and Quest provided fresh seasonal vegetables. The filled hampers were provided to Lower Mainland families in need.

Quest works to reduce hunger in local communities by providing dignified access to affordable and sustainable food options in not-for-profit grocery markets to those who face food security challenges in British Columbia.

“The holidays are a time for family and friends to come together, but that isn’t the case for everyone in our community,” said Kim Halowski, manager, community relations. “Thanks to organizations like Quest, families are able to enjoy a complete meal and celebrate the holiday season together.”

YVR was proud to be the official transportation sponsor once again, helping to collect and ensure that hampers were delivered where most needed.

“Our goal was to collect more than 1,000 hampers and thanks to the generosity of our community, we exceeded expectations,” said Halowski.

As part of the program, YVR

Community also facilitated the distribution of more than 1,500 hampers among the airport community.

Since the Hamper Drive started in 2011, 4,569 meals have been donated to local families.

Community Awards YVR’s Waste Wars competition a win-win for all If you’ve recently travelled through YVR, you may have noticed the lack of traditional garbage can receptacles. Instead, the airport’s terminals are lined with bins intended for sorting waste into recyclable categories.

YVR’s Environmental Management Plan, which provides the framework for the organization’s environmental initiatives, has outlined a goal of diverting 50 per cent of YVR waste from landfill.

In 2018, YVR surpassed this target three years ahead of schedule, achieving 51 per cent waste diversion.

One of the initiatives that helped YVR achieve this goal is an annual Waste Wars competition. Held every year since 2015, Waste Wars pit tenants against each other in a bit of friendly competition to see who can best separate their waste.

The Waste Wars competition rules are simple: organic waste belongs in the green bin; plastics, paper and metals in the recycle bins; and the remaining in the garbage.

Every week, tenants’ bins are inspected, with points allocated based on the level of appropriate separation. The better a tenant separates its waste; the more points are scored.

MTU Maintenance and World Duty receive Clear Skies awards Each year, YVR recognizes tenants that demonstrate an outstanding commitment, innovation and enthusiasm towards improving the environment on Sea Island.

Since 2011, businesses on Sea Island have been recognized with a Clear Skies Award for actions ranging from reducing gas emissions and potable water consumption to improving ecosystem health, energy efficiency and waste diversion efficiency.

Last month, YVR announced MTU Maintenance and World Duty Free as recipients of Clear Skies awards for 2018.

In the airside/groundside category, MTU was recognized for its expanded recycling program, installation of energy-efficient LED lighting, participation in Climate Smart training and use of water-efficient rinse heads for aircraft cleaning.

Honourable mentions were Aero Mag 2010 YVR Inc., Air Canada, Gate Gourmet and Swissport Canada.

Although only established on March 31, 1974, British Airways is marking its 100th anniversary this year. So exactly how does that work?

The starting point from which the airline is marking its centenary is August 25, 1919. On that date, a small airline called Aircraft Transport and Travel began the world’s first scheduled international air service from London to Paris.

The flight across the English Channel, from Hounslow Heath Aerodrome to Le Bourget, took 2 hours and 30 minutes using De Havilland 16 aircraft.

Despite problems with bad weather, Aircraft Transport and Travel soon gained a reputation for reliability, winning the first British civil airmail contract.

However, overcome with

debt, the airline went bankrupt in December 1920 and was merged into a new company, Daimler Airway Limited, which in turn merged with three airlines in 1924 to form Imperial Airways.

In 1939, Imperial Airways incorporated into the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC), which then merged with British European Airways to form British Airways on March 31, 1974.

The airline is now the flag carrier and the largest airline in the United Kingdom, based on fleet size.

In 2011, British Airways merged with Iberia, creating the International Airlines Group (IAG), a holding company registered in Madrid, Spain.

line staff, which will be designed

by Savile row tailor Oswald Boateng OBE. The airline is also marking its centenary by hosting events to lead the debate on the future of flying over the next 100 years, exploring the future of sustainable aviation fuels, aviation careers of the future and the customer experience of the future.

Through its BA2119: Future of Fuels Challenge, British Airways is tasking experts in the fields of aerospace and fuels from across the U.K. to work together to develop a sustainable alternative fuel that could power a commercial aircraft on a long-haul flight, carrying up to 300 passengers with zero net emissions.

Air Canada overwhelming preferred by business travellers, according to survey

According to the Ipsos Reid 2018 Canadian Business Traveller Survey, Air Canada is the preferred airline for domestic travel for 92 per cent of frequent business travellers.

The 27th annual Canadian Business Traveller Survey is an online survey conducted independently by Ipsos Reid and is based on business travellers who took a minimum of six round trip flights for business in the past 12 months.

The national study determined Air Canada is the only Canadian airline to see a consistent increase in preference and usage for the past five years.

Additionally, the survey’s results showed consistently strong ratings in customer preference for Air Canada’s frequent flyer reward program, flight schedule and customer service.

Among other things, the survey of frequent business travellers found: • Overall satisfaction with Air Canada’s service continues to increase, contrasting that of domestic competitors, climbing six percentage points over 2017 for in-flight and four

percentage points for airports.

Air Canada’s highest scores in the last five years was satisfaction in its schedule, loyalty program, customer service and perception as a dynamic organization.

• Air Canada is the only Canadian airline that has seen an increase in it’s Net Promoter Score (NPS) for 2018.

• 96 per cent intend to use Air Canada for domestic business travel in the coming year, significantly more than the intention to use other Canadian carriers.

• Air Canada is the preferred airline for travel between Canada and the U.S., increasing by 11 percentage points over the last five years.

• Business travel increased the most internationally to Europe, Asia and other global destinations, growing by five percentage points over last year.

In 2018 alone, Air Canada launched four new services from YVR: Zurich, Switzerland; Paris, France; Sacramento, California; and Lihue, Hawaii. Visit aircanada.com for flights.

In May, Hainan Airlines launched a new service between YVR and Shenzhen via Tianjin. The twice-weekly service marked the first route to Shenzhen and Tianjin from Canada. This service is another important part of British Columbia’s continuous strengthening of ties with Asia and beyond.

June brought about big construction changes all around Sea Island.

YVR broke ground on several new projects to help prepare for its anticipated growth. Totaling $9.1-billion and spanning 75 projects over the next 20 years, these changes are designed to help YVR stay competitive and grow as a world-class connecting hub.

In partnership with Air New Zealand, YVR marched in the Vancouver Pride Parade and Sunset Beach Festival. It was a party to say the least.

Plane spotters welcomed Lufthansa’s beautiful A350-900, which made its first flight to Canada from Munich, Germany on May 1.

The day was also marked by the return of British Airways’ A380 on the newly declared YVR Airbus Day.

This group of passionate people took YVR on the road to community festivals across the Lower Mainland. They were in different cities every weekend meeting all the airport’s neighbours and sharing fun facts about YVR. Did you know that YVR donates more than $1-million to our local community each year?

Another highlight of summer was the third YVR Chill Out. The community was invited out to Flight Path Park to enjoy family fun, music, giveaways and lots of good vibes.

Airport K9s from around Sea Island came out on a special day to meet YVR passengers and guests. Some of these puppers help keep the terminals and community safe, while others are there for comfort and assistance for travellers. At the special Dog Days of Summer event, YVR even gave away a helicopter ride with the everfamous pupper, Mr. Bentley!

Iskwew Air was welcomed to the YVR family of airlines in September. Iskwew is the Cree word for woman and celebrates the first airline in Canada owned by an Indigenous woman. Service will commence out of the South Terminal in Spring 2019.

The 8th Annual YVR Holiday Hamper Drive brought in a new record 1,288 hampers to provide holiday family feasts to those in need.

Santa was very impressed.

September marked 50 years of Japan Airlines flying to Vancouver.

As the first Asian carrier to serve the West Coast, the important cultural and economic ties between the two countries were celebrated with a ribbon cutting, cake and, of course, a flight giveaway.

In partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association, YVR launched the Fly Calm Initiative. Designed to help combat the stresses of travel, the new Fly Calm colouring books were launched alongside a new website with tips and tricks to allow for a more stress-free airport experience.

In December, YVR was certified gold for accessibility by the Rick Hansen Foundation. As the highest ranked building ever, YVR is proud to ensure every passenger has a barrier free means to travel.

YVR’s roadmap to the future, Master Plan 2037, helps outline the airport’s growth, how it will happen and how YVR’s overall goals will be achieved. The plan was approved by federal Transport Minster Marc Garneau in 2018.

YVR leveled up, receiving Level 3 Airport Carbon Accreditation from Airports Council International (ACI). The airport remains on track to fulfil its current target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 33 per cent by 2020, despite growth projections now showing 29-million passengers targeted for 2020.

For the first time in YVR history, a record-breaking 25-million passengers were served in one year. After a 25-day countdown shared with its community partners, the impressive record, achieved two years ahead of forecast, was celebrated by all. With an ambitious goal of 29-million passengers by 2020, it’s all systems go for 2019.

Originally, the TTBW was designed to fly at speeds of Mach 0.70 – 0.75. To increase the aircraft’s cruise speed, the new concept has an optimized truss and a modified wing sweep. By adjusting the wing sweep angle, the truss can carry lift more efficiently. The result is a more integrated design that significantly improved vehicle performance.

The new changes follow extensive wind tunnel testing at NASA Ames Research Center. For nearly a decade, Boeing and NASA have been studying the concept as part of the Subsonic Ultra Green Aircraft Research (SUGAR) program. The research focuses on innovative concepts that reduce noise and emissions while enhancing performance.

Boeing sets new aircraft delivery records, expands order backlog Boeing delivered 69 of its B737 airplanes in December and set a new annual record of 806 deliveries in 2018, surpassing its previous record of 763 deliveries in 2017.

Even as Boeing delivered more jetliners, the company again grew its significant order book with 893 net orders, including 203 airplane sales in December.

“In a dynamic year, our pro-

duction discipline and our supplier partners helped us build and deliver more airplanes than ever before to satisfy the strong demand for air travel across the globe,” said Kevin McAllister, president and CEO, Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

With a seven-year order backlog, Boeing increased production of its 737 in the middle of 2018 to 52 airplanes per month.

Nearly half of the year’s 580 B737 deliveries were from the more fuel-efficient and longerrange MAX family, including the first MAX 9 airplanes.

At the same time, Boeing continued to build the 787 Dreamliner at the highest production rate for a twin-aisle airplane to support demand for the superefficient jet. The Dreamliner program finished with 145 deliveries for 2018.

Deliveries of various 777, 767 and 747-8 models rounded out the total of 806 airplanes for the year.

On the orders front, Boeing achieved sales success across its airplane portfolio with 893 net orders valued at $143.7-billion.

While growing the order backlog for nearly every program, the company showed strength in the twin-aisle category with 218 widebody orders last year.

Boeing forecasts a robust global demand that will see the commercial airplane fleet market double in 20 years.

Until the new rules come into force, recreational drone pilots must continue to follow the rules of the Interim Order Respecting the Use of Model Aircraft, and pilots using their drone for work or research must continue to follow the conditions of their Special Flight Operations Certificate.

All drone pilots are also subject to the Criminal Code as well as all provincial, territorial, and municipal laws governing areas such as privacy and trespassing.

Anyone who violates the regulations could be subject to additional fines of up to $25,000 and/ or prison. This applies to drones of any size used for any purpose.

Last month, hundreds of flights were cancelled at Gatwick Airport, near London, England, following reports of drone sightings close to the runway. The incident caused major travel disruption, affecting close to 140,000 passengers and more than 1,000 flights.

Transport Canada has developed an improved, user-friendly website with information on the new regulations and helpful tools for all drone pilots, which is available at Canada.ca/dronesafety.

Starting next month, Japan Airlines (JAL), a recognized Eco-First company by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOE), plans to operate select long-haul flights using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) supplied by Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. In the past decade, the carrier has taken several proactive steps to support the development of

SAF technology.

In January 2009, JAL operated a test flight in Japan with SAF, using a mixture of three secondgeneration biofuel feedstocks.

In November 2017, JAL operated a passenger flight from Chicago to Tokyo (Narita) with SAF. In 2020, JAL plans to operate a charter flight with SAF made from recycled clothes.

In order to realize the daily operation of an aircraft utilizing SAF technology, JAL will continue to invest in the use of the fuel to fulfill the targets outlined in its medium-term management plan, which is to contribute actively in tackling Global Sustainable Development Goals, including the reduction of CO2 emissions.

Bell unveils full-scale model of its VTOL air taxi

Bell, formerly known as Bell Helicopter and a current Uber Elevate partner, has shared new details of its vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) air taxi vehicle.

The company revealed the full-scale VTOL model at CES 2019 this month.

The air taxi, named Bell Nexus, is powered by a hybridelectric propulsion system and features Bell’s signature-powered-lift concept incorporating six tilting ducted fans.

“As space at the ground level becomes limited, we must solve transportation challenges in the vertical dimension—and that’s where Bell’s on-demand mobility vision takes hold,” said Mitch Snyder, president and CEO of Bell.

“The industry has anticipated the reveal of our air taxi for some time, so Bell is very

proud of this moment. We believe the design, taken with our strategic approach to build this infrastructure, will lead to the successful deployment of the Bell Nexus to the world.”

Team Nexus, consisting of Bell, Safran, EPS, Thales, Moog and Garmin, is collaborating on Bell’s VTOL aircraft and ondemand mobility solutions.

Bell will lead the design, development and production of the VTOL systems. Safran will provide the hybrid propulsion and drive systems, EPS will provide the energy storage systems, Thales will provide the Flight Control Computer (FCC) hardware and software, Moog will develop the flight control actuation systems and Garmin will integrate the avionics and the vehicle management computer (VMC).

As the City of Richmond advances completion of its Dike Master Plan, Richmond residents and interested parties are being encouraged to provide feedback on proposed upgrade concepts for phases 3 and 5.

There are several ways to do so by Sunday, February 3, 2019.

Richmond’s Flood Protection Management Strategy guides the City to raise its dikes by approximately 1.2 metres over the next 50 years to accommodate climate change-induced sea level rise and ground settling.

Phases of the City’s Dike Master Plans identify dike upgrade options and recommendations for locations throughout the City.

The City is currently seeking feedback on dike upgrade options in the following areas: Dike Master Plan Phase 3: South dike between No. 2 Road and Boundary Road Dike Master Plan Phase 5: Sea Island between the Sea Island Connector Bridge to the south end of 3800 Cessna Drive, Mitchell Island and Richmond Island There are several ways in which the community can learn more and share their

thoughts on the City’s flood protection plan. These include: Visiting LetsTalkRichmond.ca between Monday, January 14 and Sunday, February 3. There will be opportunities to view project information, ask questions, and complete an online survey.

Attending a drop-in style open house with display boards and interactive opportunities with City staff to provide input.

Open houses will take place on the following dates: Tuesday, January 15, 2019 from 2pm to 6pm at City Centre Community Centre, 5900 Minoru Blvd, Richmond Wednesday, January 23, 2019 from 5pm to 8pm at Richmond City Hall, 6911 No. 3 Road.

Feedback received through the Dike Master Plan – Phases 3 and 5 public consultation process will be analyzed and incorporated into the strategy for the Richmond City Council’s consideration.

City of Richmond orders removal of unsafe donation bins The City of Richmond has ordered removal or locking of unsafe donation bins located on public property, until safety issues can be addressed.

The order was issued at the beginning of this month and bin operators had 24 hours to remove the bins. The bins that were ordered to be removed have a donation slot configuration that is deemed to be unsafe due to the possibility of people trying to access the interior of the bin becoming trapped.

The move followed fatalities connected to donation bins in West Vancouver and Toronto.

Any operators who were unable to remove the bins by the deadline had to ensure that the bins were or made safe until they could be removed at the soonest opportunity.

The City of Richmond has advised organizations that this donation slot configuration will not be allowed in the future and any future permit applications will require a configuration that addresses this safety concern.

Only registered charities can place donations bins on public property and a permit is required. The City of Richmond manages the placement and maintenance of donation bins on public property

through donation Bin Regulation Bylaw No. 9502.

The bylaw sets standards for size and maintenance of the donation bins and provides the City with authority to have bins removed within 24 hours for safety or other reasons.

Donation bins determined to have safe configuration will still be permitted.

These includes bins that have small donation slot apertures and/or no moving parts.

Some of the existing 24 bins on public property already met these criteria and did not need to be removed. Permits for new bins that meet these criteria will also be considered.

Plastic engine parts While modern cars keep getting more reliable with many of the parts that once failed on a frequent basis no longer doing so, there is a new whole new group of part’s failures, thanks to plastic.

Plastics have come a long way and because of their light weight, moldability, low cost and durability, they are used in many vehicle components.

When comparing a 1960s vehicle to a 2018 model, the changes that have been made

under a vehicle’s hood are simply phenomenal.

Under a sixties vehicle’s hood almost everything is metal, while under a new car’s hood approximately 40 to 50 per cent of the components are plastic.

While plastic is very durable, it creates much of today’s repair and breakdown work. Some of the problems that occur are water pump impellers breaking, thermostat housings leaking, plastic pipes snapping and intake

manifolds cracking. Frequently, there are metal replacement parts available, which are usually used if available.

Which cars are prone to these concerns?

A few that come to mind are VW, Audi, BMW and Jaguar water pumps; various Ford cars and trucks with plastic intake manifolds and plastic thermostat housings; and VW plastic thermostat housings. This is by no means an extensive list, there are

RESPONSIBILITIES • Maintain, repair and overhaul aircraft maintained by the AMO. • Carry out all tasks per our MCM/MPM. • Assist in training and coaching of Apprentice AME’s.

• Carry out additional work as directed by PRM. QUALIFICATIONS/ASSETS • AME (M1) license, A&P, IA, EASA (B1 and/or B2), LAME, SACAA, or equivalent license/certification and the willingness to get the comparable Canadian license • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments in a fast paced and safety sensitive environment.

Air Canada rouge inaugurated its non-stop seasonal service to Kansai International Airport (KIX) in Osaka, Japan from YVR on May 1, 2015.

This service will operate up to five times weekly between Vancouver and Osaka for the peak summer travel period of May-October.

This new route is the only non-stop flight between KIX and a Canadian airport and will continue to bolster YVR’s current service to Japan.

YVR offers the most capacity and frequency to Japan of any other airport in Canada.

Aeromexico, Mexico’s flag carrier, will begin new daily non-stop service between YVR and Benito Juarez International Airport (MEX) in Mexico City on December 9, 2015.

The airline will operate a Boeing 737-700 aircraft with seat capacity for 124 passengers including 12 in Class Premier, Aeromexico’s Business Class cabin.

“Aeromexico’s decision to fly to YVR further strengthens our position as the gateway hub between Asia and the Americas,” said Craig Richmond, president and CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority.

“The new service will give businesses more options to reach customers in Mexico and throughout Latin America.”

The new service will add 160 jobs to the B.C. economy and $9.9-million in Gross Domestic Product, $3.4-million in taxes and $2.9-million in wages to the province.

It will also provide opportunities for B.C. businesses to reach new customers, suppliers and investors throughout Mexico and Latin America.

“Air connections between Mexico and Canada are essential to the growing mobility of citizens between both countries; the new Aeromexico flight from Mexico City to Vancouver will foster tourism, business and student travel in both directions,” said Claudia Franco Hijuelos, Consul General of Mexico in Vancouver. “Furthermore, competitive prices will enable Mexico’s global airline to tap

into growing demand.”

Aeromexico offers connectivity to 45 destinations within Mexico and 16 destinations in Latin America.

Flight AM696 will leave MEX daily at 6pm, arriving at YVR at 10:05pm the same day.

Flight AM697 will leave YVR at 11:20pm, arriving at MEX at 7am the following day.

The arrival time at YVR allows for convenient connections onward to Asian markets.

Skytrak Thank You Friday was a celebration of YVR’s sixth consecutive year of maintaining its #1 ranking as Best Airport in North America.

Last Month, YVR celebrated its record-setting sixth consecutive Skytrax win for Best Airport in North America with an in-terminal thank-you celebration.

YVR team members, with the help of 55 employees from 11 organizations handed out 3,000 chocolate airplane lollipops, 2,500 YVR chocolates, 3,000 YVR lollipops and thousands of thank-you postcards to

YVR employees, passengers, partners and community members.

Thank-you squads were deployed airside and in-terminal. The airplane lollipops, all of which were distributed by lunchtime, proved to be a hot commodity.

The Airport Authority expressed thanks to everyone who participated in the celebration and to the 24,000 people who work and volunteer at YVR.
