Hi! My name is Kevin Tran, and on August 6, 2022, I was a volunteer that helped at the food bank at Savanna High School! I have never helped volunteer for a food bank before, but the coordinators made it easy to understand what tasks I had to do. I was assigned to set up food with my partner, Giang Ong, for the volunteers to put into the cars. There was one large pile of food, and we had to prepare smaller stacks that consisted of one bread and one sweet for the volunteer to bring to the cars. We kept stacking these bread and sweets. Every time the food was given away and the original stack got smaller, I felt more and more satisfied! The Key Club members from other schools that helped volunteer were all kind and easy to talk to. I made multiple friends from other schools because everyone there was bright and ready to socialize with others. After giving away all the food, we had to help clean up the area, which went pretty quickly because everybody lent a helping hand. When the entire event finished, I exchanged contact information with the people that I became friends with during this food bank. I not only had a great time volunteering at this food bank, but I also created potential lifelong friends! Overall, the adults and students were happy people, which made the entire atmosphere of the volunteering event so much more lively!
