WEEK 3 READING: TITLE OF READING

MARIO’S WORLD

Question 1: What is Pictorial Space according to Le Corbusier? (Maximum 100 words)

It is an ilusionary space that in a painting which appears to recede backward into depth from the picture plane. Pictorial space is that which cannot be entered or circulated through; it is irremediably space viewed from a distance, and is therefore enterally resigned to frontality.

Question 2: The Flatness of Le Corbusier’s painting’s are attributable to two properties. What are they? And what are these pitted against?(Maximum 100 words)

The first one is the use of the color white. It enforces the sence of a continious skin of paint that spans the surface from edge to edge, without break. It against the use of black in his painting. The second one is the depth which is a descriptor of texture. Those textual integers appear against the ground of contour that defines the object to whch they belong.

COMBINED MARIO’S WORLD

The second floor

The first floor

These are two original hand drawing of my mario world. For the axonometreic drawing, it is important to set up every skacthing tools in the right palce to project all lines accurately. I drew the sperate part on every single paper, and then I overlayed them into the whole picture. As I was drawing the axonometric, I set up the original mario wolrd at 45 degrees and then project lines from every objects. once I finshed measuring the actual height of the objects, I set up the T-square and 45 4 degree set square to create the heights and thichness.

This is the whole image of the mario world. I overlayed my first hand drawings and then trace it with the pens on a A3 greaseproof paper. I use the 0.5 pen to draw the outline of the whoe world. For the buildings and the small characters, I use the 0.2 and 0.1 pens to trace. I extended the groud floor to show its depth. I also created a curve stair to combine two floors together. The reason why I use the curve is because it dose not make the whole picture too rigid.

ILLUSTRATED MARIO’S NEW WORLD

Complete your reading before attempting these questions:

Question 1: Explain the difference between Pictoral (in this case perspectival) space and Projection? (Maximum 100 words)

Perspectival space is a limited space which is finite and closed, while projection extend the finite visual cone of persoectiive to infinity. Perspective space is always converged to a fixed point of view, on the other hand, projection extend the vanishing point to infinity.

Question 2: Where did Axonometric projection first arise, and why? (Maximum 100 words)

Axonometrice projections was origined in thethe abstract nd instumental world og the technical disciplines. Because it could transmite abstract information, and because it was measurable and precise, was the ideal toll to delineate the avant-garde’s vision of a new world.

This image is somewhere different from my original drawing. As the process of tracing the mario world on illustrator, I get the idea that I need to creat somthing different of my world because the orignal world is a little monotonous. Therefore, I add a sea world on the back of the ground floor. I use the same color as the sea on the floor to make it like a tansparent glass so that we can see inside. Also, it makes sense that the waterfalls in the pipes come from the sea. I also add some small charcters which I get inspiration from the other scenes to enrich the empty spaces. For the colors of the objects, I use the gradient color to fill the sea world and the water. Apart from the colors from the originals pictures, I also add some bright colors to make the whole wold more lively.

The combined image

Equpments: the T-square, 45 degree set square, ruler, masking tap, erasers, 0.1,0.2 and 0.5 fineliners and clutch pencil.

The ground floor

The first floor: I drew the first part of the upper mario image, then I overlayed another tracing paper to draw the other part of the bottom image. It is a good way to avoid the whole pictures get messy.
