WEEK 9 READING: TITLE OF READING

INVISIBLE CITY: Maurilia

Question 1: What are Durer’s rules for perspectival projection? (Maximum 100 words) Dure thinks that perspective view projected the spatial continuum upon the picture plane, conforming to a percised space as seen through another object. The idea of “a window” shows that the perspective projection can be seen through this window into a space, meaning a scene through a imagined point into a reality. He definites that all perpendicular or othogonal meet at the centre vanishing point, which is determined by the perpendicular drawn from the eye to the picture plane.

Question 2: Describe homogenous space? (Maximum 100 words)

Homogenous space is infinite and unchanging produced by constructions in terms of the mathematical thinking. It gives two assumptions of the way to reflect the reality: the first one is the perpective taken from a sigular view or a sigular eye, the second one is a planner cross section through the pyramid perspective which can relicate the visual image in people’s eyes. It negates the directions and orientations of the space, which is boundless. Also, it just indicates the subjective tactile sense in our consciousness.

In the isometric view of the old quad, I create a triangle shape to indicate the constructions in the two perspectives. Also, I use the mood symbols representing the people and 0

their happy feelings and the arrows pointing the staring direction of people. In terms of the sunlight direction, I adjust the color of the route symbol to show the light and dark side. While the color of the symbols are darker in the shadow, the color of them are lighter under the light. Since I set the city in the different periods in the perspectives scenes, I put the symbol of timeline in front of the camera position to show the transition of time.

However, in terms of my understanding of the whole story, the view of the appearance of the city is actually depends on different people in different period. Therefore, there is no need to decide which one is better.

Question 1: What is the difference between autographic and allographic practice? (Maximum 100 words) Autographic is a kind of art-forms such as painting and sculpture which depends from the authenticity upon the direct contact of the author. Allographic represents the art work which can be produced without the direct intervention of the author. Allographic arts are are capable of being reproduced at a distance from the author by means of notations. They operates through interpretation and on thebasis of convention. The main characteristic of them is the use of notational drawings. The notational dawings in the allographic practice create new realities instead of imitating or reproduce the realities that have existed.
