MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT

How to measure a Croissant? Techiques used in the drawing: •2H pencil for the outline of the elevation view; •2B and 6B for shading; •0.05 - 0.2 fine pen for the outline and hatching of the top view; •T-square; set-square; ruler In the process of drawing the different views of the cossiant, I have learnt some base skills of hatching and shading. Also, the most important thing I have learnt is that how to create a axonometric plan on the crossiant by combining the grid view of the three sections. It is also important to set up all the techniques and papers in a right angle to draw the axonometric plan accurately.

NEW MARIO WORLD

The making of new Mario world. Insert 50 to 80 words describing your new Mario world. What are you trying to achieve? How do you explore the hidden space in the axonometric? [50-80 words] According to my experience on playing the game Mario, I try to create a traditional Mario world with the adding of some typical characters. In the meantime, I seperate the base floor and try to make a sea world which is another scene that can be seen in the game. I also use the sea water from the pipe to show the depth of the base floor. To further denote the depth of the sea world, I applies some dark clolor and gradients on the chracters under the sea. The hidden space in my axonometric is depend on the height of the objetcs in the elevation view and my personal adjusting width of the objects.

PAPER LANDSCAPE

The making of new landscape Insert 50 to 80 words describing your paper model. Explain how you make differentiation through surface and pattern. What are you trying to achieve? Is it successful? [75-100 words] This is the final work of my panneld landscape. The 3D panles are all based on tetrahedrons and two all them are trencated since I tries to present a variation of the whole 3D lanscape, while the 2D design was set in a wave shape to create a differentiation on the edge betweent the 3D and 2D panels. I choosed to place the 3D panelised landscape in a diagonal summetry shape through the 10*10 grid to balance the blank 2D space. I set the highest point in the centre of the whole landscape and orientated the 3D panels to the two edges to emphasis the slope of my landscape. Overall, it was a satifying work for me.

The original base of the lanscape.

3D panles: All of them were designed in a polyhedron and two of them were truncated.

Rhino 3D panelised lanscape: The variation of the heights of the objects declining from the centre to the edges emphasises the slope of the landscape.

Adhesion of the final panles.

Finnal digital module: combining the 3D and 2D panles together and maintain about 50 percents of the 3D panels.

INVISIBLE CITY: MAURILIA

Cities & Memory: Maurilia In terms of my understanding of the story, my city Maurilia was used to be quiet grace and harmonious although the facities in the cities were primitive. Although the modern city is quiet developed nowadays, it lacks of a sence of grace and classicism which can be seen through the provincial city. Therefore, I decided to set my city regarding to different periods, and tried to showed that flashback in my perspective views. In other words, when Marco Polo visits the metropolis, his memory of the old city will be projected at the back of the real scene that he is seeing.

This perspective scene shows a old past city of Maurilia in the mid century. I set this view as the memory of Marco Polo when he sees the mordern city. In terms of my intepretation of the story, Marco Polo thinks the old past city is more graceful although it is primitive. I choose some images of the characters in the mid century and try to shows their elegant temperanment from their clothing, movements and the expression in thier eyes. I try to set the scene in a natural environment which is more like a park or a village. While some crude furnish such as the fence and the chair are old and simple, the decoration of the roof shows the exquisite livelihhod of people in the past. I create this scene under a harmonious situation so that every chracter has a happy feeling shown on their face and the children and the birds at the bacgroud represents a feeling of happiness.

13

This perspective scene shows a metropolis Maurilia. I set the scene as a public space where people can hang around. According to the story, the modern Maurilia is more magnificent and prosper. Therefore, I choose some objects which is common in our daily lives such as the car, bus stop and mobile vendors. The background of the scene contains many high-rise buildings, which shows a obvious comtrast of the scene in perspective 1. Also, I add a image of hand in front of the scene to show the position of Marco Polo. The picture in his hand represents his memory of the old provincial Maurilia. It also indicates a transition and improvment of architectural style from the past to the modern city. However, although the modern city is well developed, it lacks of a sense of grace and classicism which can be seen from th old city. The dressing and gesture of the chracter is less acctractive and more casual comparing the charaters in the scene 1.

REFLECTION

Foundation of Design and Representation proved a organised introduction and basis of the design process, allowing us to apply the complex and mathamatical concepts on the pratice of digital and physical modules. This subject largely helps me establish the knowledge of the basic design concepts and skills. Although the course provided many basic solutions for the process of every modules, it still had a great flexibility and accessaccessility to explore some new ways and ideas to achieve a higher standard work according the personal thinking and practice. From the lectures of this term, I haved learnt that the basic ideas of the orthographic space, flatness and differences between surfaces and other spatial concepts. These informations provided me a better understanding of the requirements of the module. For exmaple, I learnt from the crossaint mdolue that a precise elevtion of different sides of the object should be valued in the axonometric projection. I also knew some important skills on how to transimit a elevtaion view into a 3-dimentional object in the Mario module. In addition, with the teaching of the using techniques of the software and my personal practice through the procees of making modules, I have already improved my skills on the manipulation of pictures and contruction of digital 3D modules. Furthermore, creating clear pictures and showing methodic thingking process is necessary for a good presentattion of the design works. Although I am satisfied with my own projetcs that have been done, there were still many improvements that can be carried out. For instance, in the module of the Mario world, I can put forward the idea that making the whole space more lively and have more creativity on the design of the bottom sapce to emphasis the depth of the landscape. Also, I found that some of my projects especially the crossiant axonometirc drawing lack accuracy which is one of the essential requirements in the design work. I need to have a clear management of the working steps and methodic set up of the needed tools to prevent untidy in the procees of working . Overall, this course not only provided us a clear introduction of many solid design concepts , but also raised awarneness about the skills and solutions of making different kinds of modules. The most enjoyable things for me in this subject is that I can not only practice on the porjects to further understand those design concepts that learnt fron the lectures, but also can get inspired by ome interesting ideas and experiences from the modules of other classmates. In order to gain better creativity inspiration , I need to further
