ESOP MONTH

Ownership is our culture. Growth is our future

October is here, and with it comes one of our favorite celebrations: ESOP Month! This is our time to shine a light on what makes Day’s truly special, our culture as an employee-owned company.

Being employee-owned means so much more than having shares in a business It is about belonging to something bigger, where every one of us has a voice and a role in shaping the future. Our culture of ownership is what sets Day’s apart. It is what drives us to care deeply for our customers, support one another, and take pride in every success.

This month, we celebrate not just our ESOP, but the spirit of teamwork, accountability, and shared success that makes Day’s feel like family Each milestone we achieve together is a direct reflection of our dedication, creativity, and ownership mindset

We will be rolling out fun activities and events throughout October to honor this shared journey, so keep your eyes open for announcements and join in the celebration. Together, we do not just work at Day’s. We own our story, our culture, and our legacy.

Day of Caring: Giving Back Together

At Day’s, our success is about more than jewelry. It is about the impact we make in our communities. Each year on our Day of Caring, stores and departments come together to support local causes such as kitten adoptions, food drives, and other community needs This tradition reflects our culture and aligns with our VOTS, reminding us that ownership and compassion extend beyond our walls. Thank you for caring and making a difference in your community.

Amber will be reaching out to store management teams to coordinate our annual Day of Caring.

Our Benefits Superhero: 425 Reasons to Thank Lauryl!

Open Enrollment is officially wrapped up, and I want to thank all of you for the thoughtful way you approached your benefit choices this year We saw fantastic engagement, with so many of you making meaningful updates to ensure your families are well covered.

And at the heart of it all was Lauryl, our Payroll and Benefits Coordinator. She goes above and beyond every day with her compassion, attention to detail, and even her infectious laugh. Through this Open Enrollment, Lauryl personally set up 425 separate payroll deductions to make sure every change you made was captured accurately. That is no small feat!

Lauryl is not only a trusted ally to each of us but also the heartbeat behind our celebrations and the reason this complicated process felt seamless. Her dedication reminds us why she truly is our Benefits Superhero. Thank you, Lauryl, for making Day’s a place where people feel cared for and connected.

Opal Quick Guide-by Lindsay

Opal Doublets and Triplets

Opal Doublets and Triplets are assembled stones Doublets are solid opal slices on the top, glued to a dark backing (ironstone, black potch, or plastic). Triplets have a thin slice of opal in the center, glued on top of a black backing. They also have a plastic or quartz dome shaped capping. Assembled opals should never be submerged in water- it can loosen the glue.

Boulder Opals

Boulder Opals are natural opals that are mined from ironstone boulders under the ground The precious opal appears in seams or patches surrounded by natural ironstone.

Ethiopian Opals

Ethiopian Opals (or Welo Opals) are mined in Ethiopia. They typically cost less than Australian Opals, have a vivid play of color, and are from stratified volcanic rock Ethiopian Opals should not be submerged in water for an extended period of time- they can absorb the water and cause the stone to crack and change color.

Australian Opals (Light Opals/White Opals)

Australian Opals are mined throughout Australia. They are produced in a sedimentary environment, resulting in a more stable stone (as compared to the Ethiopian Opal). The white or light opal versions of the Australian opal are translucent or semi translucent with a play of color against a white or light gray background color (body color) These stones can be easily broken if dropped but do not absorb water as an Ethiopian Opal does.

Australian Opals (Black Opals)

Australian Black Opals are translucent to opaque, with a play of color against a black or other dark background

Opal Care

Opals need special care. They should not be exposed to extreme heat, intense light, or sudden temperature changes. Customers should also avoid exposing Ethiopian Opals to water. Australian opals should only be cleaned with warm soapy water.

F5: Cooper Flagg & Family

On September 20th, we proudly presented custom “F5” pieces to the five members of the Flagg family, including Maine’s own Cooper Flagg, the No 1 NBA draft pick This project has been in the works for months and came full circle, as Kelly and Ralph Flagg purchased their engagement ring from Day’s in Bangor back in 1997.

The hand-off took place the day before Kelly’s induction into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame, making the moment even more special. Seeing the family together proudly wearing their new pieces was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do, creating jewelry that carries stories across generations and life’s biggest milestones Huge shoutout to ODI/Tache for bringing these pieces to life!

With Gratitude

I recently lost my grandmother; I was able to take time off work before and after to be with her and my family during this difficult time. Everyone at my location has been extremely supportive and helpful. Everyone checked in on me and offered condolences and help. While this was all happening, I also was closing on a home! Talk about bittersweet. I was met with encouragement and support every step of the way. So, to everyone at Day's in Auburn, I love you, I thank you and I'm so happy to work with such wonderful people

Love, Sasha
