LEADERS RALLY

Five of our Leaders Club members went down to Frost Valley YMCA in Claryville, NY with two staff advisors to participate the Northeast Teen Leaders Club Fall Rally. Despite some heavy snow on the drive down, we made it safely and had successful weekend conference with several Y’s from New York City as well as Massachusetts and Connecticut. Almost 200 teens participated! The Rally theme was “Inside Out” and the teens had several activities based on emotions, memories, and identity. There were teambuilding and mindfulness sessions, rock climbing, cooking, and candle making. Every club participated in a talent show followed by a 2000s themed dance. We are very proud of our teens for challenging themselves to step out of their comfort zones, making new friends, and for doing an amazing job as representatives of our program.

SPORTS & GAMES

We’ve been having great success with our High School priority gym hours from 7-9pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. During these times students in 9th grade and up have primary use of the gym. Younger teens may ask to join but should expect that more intense games will be going on in the evenings.

Please note that the gym will be unavailable the week of December be hosting a Toys for Tots program for the community. The gym will also be unavailable to the teen program during basketball practices at the following times. Mondays 6-8pm, Tuesdays 4-6pm, Wednesdays4:30-7:30pm, and Thursdays 4-6pm.

PING PONG TOURNAMENT

In November the Teen Center hosted a ping pong tournament. It was open to both our teen participants and their families. We were excited to be joined by some parents who were able t h i i ing pong skills one who joined

ARTS AND CRAFTS

There were several arts activities at the Teen Center in November. We had a very successful Paint and Sip with hot chocolate. The teens had a great time chilling out and chatting while enjoying their beverages and getting creative. We also had teens making perler bead creations, a simple activity where they can build designs of colored plastic beads on templates and melt them together with a hot iron. Kids even had an impromptu fishing lure making activity. It was lots of fun to see them sharing their ideas and knowledge with one another.

CANDLE MAKING

Later in the month, the teens made their own candles with help from Teen Center staff. After melting wax on the stove, they were able to select their own colors and add in scents. The resulting candles looked great!

BAKING

We had many baking activities this month. The kids baked snickerdoodles, mini fruit pies, and chocolate chip cookies. They also made caramel apples in the spirit of fall.

COOKING PROGRAM

Our cooking program has continued to flourish as teens prepare their own meals and gain confidence in the kitchen.

On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving we had a fieldtrip down to Silver Bay’s main campus for Friendsgiving! Several teens joined us to cook dinner with Chef Tony in the industrial kitchen. We had time for some rock climbing before serving up food to our teen’s friends and families who were able to join us. We even had time to get in some rock climbing!
