Obituary
Enid Louise Dean was born on September 15, 1957, to the late Lionel and Hatte Dean. From an early age, Enid displayed a natural talent for creativity and care. She loved to sew and crochet, creating beautiful blankets for her grandchildren and crafting hats and scrunchies that she proudly sold and gifted to loved ones.
Enid also had a gift for cooking, a skill that brought joy and comfort to everyone fortunate enough to share a meal with her. Her warmth, generosity, and artistic spirit touched all who knew her.
She received her early education at the Sandy Point All-Age School in Abaco where she resided with her aunt Virgina Adderley. When Enid later returned home to Nassau, she continued her schooling at C. C. Sweeting.
After leaving school, Enid began building her own family. She welcomed her first child into the world on October 2nd, 1976, lovingly naming him Vivian after his father. The following year September 2, 1977 she welcomed her second son Nicholas.
She went on to have six more children -three boys and three girls: Valentina, Leon, Kaylissa, Vivasvan, Jefferson, and the baby, Sabrina.
Enid was a devoted mother who made countless sacrifices for her children. She did whatever was necessary to ensure their well-being, always putting their needs before her own. Her love, resilience, and unwavering commitment to her family were at the core of everything she did.
Her working life was marked by dedication, skill, and a divine work ethic. She first worked alongside her late aunt, Rena, as a lunch vendor at Jordan Prince William School. She later became a fry cook at Roselie’s Takeaway (Dirty’s), where her cooking talents continued to shine. After leaving Rosalie’s she spent some time working at the Big 10 Briland Lounge at the Fish Fry.
Her commitment to doing every job with excellence led her to The Colony Club Resort, where she worked in housekeeping.
Enid’s cleaning skills were so exceptional that the owner, Mr. Harrison Petty, personally moved her from the resort to display her professional skills at his home. When her time working for the Petty’s would have concluded, she stayed at home and sold food, continuing to marvel the community with her culinary skills.
In 2006, she joined L.W. Young staff as a janitress, a role she fulfilled with dedication and pride for her entire career. Through her hard work and commitment, she was later promoted to Head Janitress, a position she served in honorably until her retirement in 2022.
Enid’s life was one of service, creativity, and quiet strength. She touched many lives through her work, her talents as well as her warm and generous spirit.
Unfortunately Enid became ill and hospitalized from the end of May to the beginning of August 2025. During this time, she was lovingly cared for by her children Vivian, Nicholas & Kaylissa Huyler, along with dedicated Nurses Swaby & Dorsett from the South Beach Clinic. Her granddaughter, Amasia, and her neighbor, Dereka, also stepped in to provide support whenever they were needed, showing the same love and devotion that Enid had always shown to others.
Sadly, during a follow-up visit to the hospital, she required readmission. It was there, on November 21st, she peacefully gained her wings.
She was predeceased by her Father: Lionel Dean Sr., Mother: Hatte Dean, Brothers: Lionel Jr . Jeffery and Virgil Dean Sr. & Jermaine Taylor .

PRE-SERVICE
HYMN | Amazing Grace
Amazing grace! how sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see.
‘twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed.
AS
Through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come; ‘tis grace hath brought me safe thus far And grace will lead me home.
The lord has promised good to me His word my hope secures; He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures.

Celebrant: My soul is waiting for the Lord, I count on His Word: All: My soul is longing for the Lord more than watchman for daybreak.
Celebrant: Because with the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption, All: Israel indeed He will redeem from all its iniquity.

Celebrant: The grace and peace of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you. All: And with your spirit.
BLESSING OF THE BODY
Celebrant: I bless + the body of Enid Louise with the holy water that recalls her baptism of which St. Paul writes: All of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death. By baptism into His death, we were buried together with Him, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live a new life. For if we have been united with Him by likeness to His death, so shall we be united with Him by likeness to His resurrection.
ENTRANCE HYMN | Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer
Guide me, O thou Great Redeemer Pilgrim through this barren land. I am weak, but thou art mighty; Hold me with thy powerful hand. Bread of heaven, bread of heaven, Feed me till I want no more; Feed me till I want no more.
PLACING OF THE PALL | Carmelo Thompson Amasia Brown
When I tread the verge of Jordan, Bid my anxious fears subside; Death of deaths, and hell’s destruction, Land me safe on Canaan’s side. Songs of praises, songs of praises, I will ever give to Thee; I will ever give to Thee.
Open now the crystal fountain, Whence the healing stream doth flow; Let the fire and cloudy pillar Lead me all my journey through. Strong deliverer, strong deliverer, Be thou still my strength and shield; Be thou still my strength and shield
Celebrant: On the day of her Baptism, Edith Louise put on Christ. On the day of Christ’s coming, may she be clothed in glory. All: Amen.
CEREMONY OF THE PASCHAL CANDLE
The paschal candle is placed at the center, near the casket, recalling the light received at baptism, a symbol of the Christian’s Passover from death to life.
Celebrant: The light of Christ. All: Thanks be to God.
Celebrant: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me shall live even in death and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
All: Yes! We believe that Jesus is the Anointed One, the Son of God, he who is to come into the world.
Celebrant: “We must work the works of Him who sent me while it is day; night comes when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” “Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
Celebrant: Let us pray:
O God, whose nature is always to forgive and to show mercy, we humbly implore you for your servant Edith Louise whom you have called to journey to you, and, since she hoped and believed in you, grant that she may be led to our true homeland to delight in its everlasting joys, through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. All: Amen.

RECESSIONAL HYMN | It Is Finished
There’s a line that’s been drawn through the ages
On that line stands the old rugged cross
On that cross a battle is raging
For the gain of man’s soul or his loss.
Chorus:
It is finished, the battle is over
It is finished, there’ll be no more war
It is finished, the end of the conflict
It is finished and Jesus is Lord.
On one side march the forces of evil
All the demons and devils of hell
On the other the angels of glory
And they meet on Golgotha’s hill.
The earth shakes with force of the conflict
And the sun refuses to shine
For there hangs God’s Son in the balance
And then through the darkness He cries.

GRAVESIDE HYMNS
It Is Well With My Soul
When peace like a river attendeth my way
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, You have taught me to say It is well, it is well with my soul
But Lord it’s for Thee, for Thy coming we wait
The sky not the grave is our goal
Oh, trump of the angel, oh, voice of the Lord Blessed hope, blessed rest of my soul
Chorus
It is well with my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul
You are the Rock on which I stand
By Your grace, it is well
My hope is sure in Christ my Saviour It is well with my soul
Father Along
Tempted and tried will oft’ me to wonder Why it should be thus all the day long; While there are others living about us, Never molested, though in the wrong.
Chorus
Farther along we’ll know more about it. Farther along we’ll understand why; Cheer up my brother live in the sunshine We’ll understand it all by and by.
When death has come and taken our loved ones
Leaving our homes so lonely and drear; Then do we wonder how others prosper
Living so wicked year after year.
Often I wonder why I must journey
Over a road so rugged and steep; While there are others living in comfort, While with the lost I labor and weep.
City of Gold
There’s a city that looks o’er the valley of death, And its glories can never be told; There the sun never sets, and the leaves never fade, In that beautiful city of gold.
There the King, our Redeemer, the Lord whom we love, All the faithful with joy shall behold: There the righteous forever shall shine as the stars, In that beautiful city of gold.
Chorus
There the sun never sets, And the leaves never fade; And the eyes of the faithful our Saviour behold, In that beautiful city of gold.
Every soul we have led to the foot of the cross, Every lamb we have brought to the fold… Shall be there as bright jewels, our crowns to adorn, In that beautiful city of gold.
There we will tell how he loved and redeemed us from sin, But the half even there can’t be told; There we’ll sing the new song with the blood-washed at home, In that beautiful city of gold
DEAR MAMA,
I did my best to comfort your heart yet you decided to leave and broke mine. As a child, I may not have had much as it relates to possessions when compared to my peers but one thing I had for certain was the best mother a child could ever ask for. There were times you endured unending afflictions all in the name of love that contained the power to break the toughest of warriors but you always found the strength and courage to strut along. Many times you cried I cried along with you. Many times otherwise I cried for you because I was unable to bring an end to the sufferings that consumed you behind closed doors. Under circumstances where there wasn’t sufficient for you to eat, you fed your children nonetheless.
The protection we received as you defended us from the cruelties of the world, especially from individuals near and dear always remind me of the way a lioness protects her cubs.
Your love was divine, genuine and unconditional. In my honest opinion, you didn’t deserve the life you chose to live but that never stopped you from navigating your way through its adversities. Your tribulations forged your resilience. The faith you had in God was admirable. God was always allowed to fight battles in your stead against transgressors. People that oppressed or inflicted bodily harm on you were never matched with likeminded energies. “God don’t sleep” , these very words were your response and retaliation.
You provided us with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate the world on our own, for this we are grateful. We also learned to be resilient from your teachings. This is an attribute I happily inhabited. Life may have knocked me down a time or two but I always got back up swinging {learned that from my mama}. Honorable Heavenly Father, I thank you beyond the definition of words for gifting us to her and appointing her shepherd of your faithful sheep. Please treasure her as I have during the time you loan her to me. Rest In Paradise Enid Louise Dean your sorrows are finally cured.
Your son, VIVIAN
On the 2nd of September 1977, God gave me to you as your gift and you to me as mine. I always loved to make you laugh from the first Cme we met until the very end and when we meet again, I will continue where we left off. Sadly, I wasn’t always a good child and made you talk and have to discipline me regularly. Thank you for your guidance and discipline. It molded me into the man I have become today. I will never forget crying because you bought me sticky mouth shoes and gabardine pants for school but you made me wear them nonetheless. Who would have thought that I would love wearing them now. I remember the time I boiled my second-hand shoes to shrink the leather and they curled up. What a cut hip I got and I never forgot it but I never did it again. There are too many memories to mention.
You showed me the true nature of love and sacrifice. You always put our needs before your own and made a way out of no way. You are and forever will be my morning star and my favorite girl. My protector, my provider, my confidant, my biggest cheerleader, my mother, my friend, my earthly God.
Tears have become a constant part of my life since the day you left. I long to see you and share a smile, just one more time.
One more hug, one more kiss, one more chance to tell you and show you how much I love you. Rest In Peace Weezy. I love you more than I was able to show. Thank you for not telling Vivi and Lissa that I let you lick that lollipop.
Your loving son, Nicholas “Officer Nicky”
A TRIBUTE TO MY BELOVED MOTHER
Nothing in life could have prepared me for this moment.
I always looked forward to our shared mornings, preparing together for the day ahead. But when you went to the hospital and they admi`ed you, I found myself at a loss. Our time together was now limited, and all I could do was wait, longing for the moments we would share again. I never missed a day of visiting, always bringing what I thought you might need, and praying for the strength to help in any way I could.
On Thursday, November 20th, I gently fixed your hair after Nicky had finished praying with you. I kissed you and whispered, “Nana, I will see you tomorrow.” But tomorrow never came.
When that next day arrived, my worst fear was realized, and everything felt surreal. I couldn’t sleep, and the world seemed to stand still as I tried to process the fact that you had left me without a final goodbye. The pain of that moment is something I will carry forever.
I’ll forever keep the memories of you and I from my early years closest to my heart. How we used to hang the clothes on the line when you washed, catch the bus on the weekends to go downtown to your favorite stores. After shopping, we always went for lunchour special little routine. We could never pass Stop & Shop without ge;ng candy, no matter what.
I cherish the memories of us in the kitchen together – me cuttng up all the herbs while you made macaroni and conch fritters. Those simple moments shaped me more than I ever realized.
I will also always treasure the memories of Diamond singing and dancing for you as I prepared you for the day. She would ask if you wanted to go to the beach, to which you would reply “no.” But she would always show you pictures of bikinis, jokingly saying, “Nana I’m going to get this one for you,” bringing joy to our hearts.
Then there was Nicky-always coming in to “interrupt” us, insisting you needed to exercise your hands and legs. I’m still convinced he was doing it more for his peace of mind than yours. And of course, he never forgot to grease up your lips with Vaseline, determined to keep you comfortable in every way he could. Those moments, those small acts of love, have stayed with me.
You were a beacon of strength, independence, and resilience. You never wanted anyone to do anything for you, always puttng others before yourself. I witnessed your sacrifices and the endless love you gave to our family. Your spirit of selflessness and determination will never be forgotten.
Though I miss you dearly, I find comfort in knowing that you are at peace, embraced by the love of Jesus. I will always carry your memory in my heart, and until we meet again, I will hold on to the lessons you taught me-lessons of love, strength, and resilience.
Rest well, Mommy. You are deeply loved, and you will never be forgotten.
Your Loving Daughter, Kaylissa
The true definition of a nurturer. Mommy where do I begin?
My friend and confidant losing you left me distraught, heartbroken and in disbelief. My only comfort is knowing you are at peace. If love could have saved you, you would still be here, a pain that is so uneasy to bear . God gifting me with you as my mom was life’s greatest treasure, my memories of you I will carry in my heart forever. Until we meet again my queen.
R.I.P Mommy, Valentina
A TRIBUTE TO MY HERO
What do you say about the woman who gave you life and protected you for the rest of hers?
I have always heard the story of my birth, and how you went home from the clinic (in labor) to clean and prepare for me. How in the process of giving me life, you almost lost yours. Growing up, you sacrificed so much for us. I watched you take on the world head on and win every time. A stronger woman has never graced my presence. Everyone has lost you in a different way. To ask each of your children is to get 8 different responses. I lost my best friend, my rider, my protector, my role model and the person that I wanted to make proud. When I had Breon, I aspired to be as strong as you were as a woman and mother. Even then, you stood in the gap for him. We only had to mention that we needed something and you made that happen. To say that we miss you, is an understatement. You took us by surprise and shattered our hearts. I cannot imagine a world where you don’t exist.
Love your baby, Sabrina
TO MY MOTHER/NANA
Watching you endure your pain was agonizing and our hearts broke piece by piece. It was hard but we thank God the pain is no more.
Mom, you were the foundation of the person I am today, and I am a reflection of your love and resilience, never making excuses for the hardship of life, but rather overcoming each obstacle you faced. I remember the time I got stitches and you told me if I didn’t cry I would get McDonalds . You made your own McDonalds for me and for this I am so happy to call you my very first superhero.
Nana, you showed me the true meaning of the belief that “little is much with God in it.” That lesson is a treasure I carry, and for it I am eternally grateful.
Nana to know you was to love you. You demonstrated countless times that you were always my confidant and my cherished talk buddy. For every moment and memory, I am profoundly thankful to have known and love you.
Nana/Mommy, your love remains our foundation. We will hold you in our hearts always, now and in the life to come.
With all our love, Jeffy and Gabby
A TRIBUTE TO MY PRECIOUS MOMMY
Wow, Mommy… I remember you telling me how much pain I put you through because I was the biggest kid you had, and how you gave birth to me in the house on Symonette Street before being rushed to the hospital.
This new reality of you not being here physically is lifechanging. The pain I’m feeling now is unbearable. Your absence has leF a void that can never be filled.
Yet your spirit lives on-in every cherished memory, every shared laugh, every heart you touched, and every stomach you filled with your scrumptious soul food.
It is an honor to be one of your eight children and a privilege to have had you as my mother. You will always be a part of me.
Sleep in peace, my Queen. Leon Huyler
MESSAGE OF GRATITUDE
