Obituary

On March 25th, 1955, Leonard Lagris Wallace and Hazel Adell Wallace, both now deceased, gave birth to their sixth child and third son, Kurth Eugene Wallace, in Duncan Town, Ragged Island.

Like all of his siblings, Kurth’s education began at the Ragged Island All-Age School where he was quickly recognized as a bright student blessed with a fantastic memory and rapid insight. When the Wallace family relocated to Nassau in 1968, Kurth matriculated to St. Anne’s High School thanks to his loving sister Sonia, now deceased, who was a teacher there at the time and covered Kurth’s fees to attend.

Kurth grew up in a house of four boys and with his father being a boxing historian and sports lover, sports were the order of the day. Each boy had their own sports team and for Kurth, it was the Baltimore Orioles baseball team. Kurth’s fantastic memory from childhood allowed him to memorize the batting averages of every player and the E.R.A. of every pitcher on the Orioles.

Shortly after his graduation from St. Anne’s in 1971, Kurth started a career in banking and finance. His career began at the Bank of Montreal, then to the Finance Corporation of the Bahamas better known as FINCO where he successfully completed numerous banking and finance courses, and shot through the ranks, eventually becoming a bank manager. He then moved to the British American Bank which later became Fidelity, where he was the bank manager at the Cable Beach & Market Street branches up until the end of his commercial banking career.

His career later moved onto mortgage brokerage & appraisals where he worked as Chief Financial

Officer then Financial Consultant for Venice Bay Holdings for a number of years and later at the Department of Housing as a Mortgage Officer up until his retirement.

Kurth’s two pride-and-joys were his children, Kirstie and Cameron, both of whom he was very proud and supportive in all of their endeavours, whether here in The Bahamas or abroad.

Kurth had an immense love for the sea, whether it was commanding vessels of his own and for others as captain often taking his brothers Bill and Ernie or his nephew D’Angelo on fishing trips, organizing and running races for the Bahamas Sailing Committee, watching the sea and exploring the ships while on cruises or simply sitting out on Montague Beach or Potter’s Cay dock with his loving wife and observing the boats as they sail in and out of the harbour.

For Kurth, the Church and more especially St. Georges Anglican Church held a very special place in his heart. While in good health, he thoroughly enjoyed being in church and serving God, especially with his beloved Anglican Church Men (ACM) of which he served both as St. George’s Branch President and ACM Council President. Over the years he used his talents and brilliance in the financial world to serve God as well, acting as St. George’s church treasurer, the treasurer of the East Central Archdeaconry and the Chair of the Diocesan Financial Committee. Even after he became ill and was unable to attend church in person, Kurth always watched both St. George’s and Diocesan services online, where he was particularly overjoyed in seeing his son Cameron serving around the altar.

His wife Collonna, whom he loved and cherished immensely, was his “Queen” as he often affectionately called her. Having met in St. George’s Church, they were joint in holy matrimony on October 29th, 2005 in the same meeting place and their mutual love for God and for one another allowed them the opportunity to travel to many islands of The Bahamas as he and her worked with the Anglican Church Men and Anglican Church Women Councils respectively. As the saying goes “opposites attract” and their hobbies were definitely elemental opposites; Kurth’s being fishing and Collonna’s gardening, or “playing in the dirt” as Kurth often called it. Over the 20 years of their marriage, they had the opportunity to travel all over the world, mostly on cruises, despite Kurth’s declining health and mobility in his latter

years. They both brought sunshine to each other’s lives, their smiles and laughs being infectious to the other, even in the final days leading up to Kurth’s transition from life into death.

After a long battle with illnesses over a number of years, early on November 22nd 2025 at the Princess Margaret Hospital, the Captain of all Captains pulled the anchor and Kurth sailed on to his great reward.

The congregation stands and sings the Introit Hymn:

INTROIT HYMN: TEN THOUSAND TIMES TEN THOUSAND

1. Ten thousand times ten thousand In sparkling raiment bright, The armies of the ransomed saints Throng up the steeps of light. ‘Tis finished, all is finished, Their fight with death and sin; Fling open wide the golden gates, And let the victors in.

2. What rush of alleluias Fills all the earth and sky, What ringing of a thousand harps Bespeaks the triumph nigh! O day, for which creation And all its tribes were made; O joy, for all its former woes, A thousandfold repaid!

THE COLLECT FOR THE DEPARTED

3. O then what raptured greetings On Canaan’s happy shore, What knitting severed friendships up Where partings are no more! Then eyes with joy shall sparkle, That brimmed with tears of late; Orphans no longer fatherless, Nor widows desolate.

4. Bring near thy great salvation, Thou Lamb for sinners slain; fill up the roll of thine elect, then take thy power, and reign; Appear, Desire of nations, thine exiles long for home; Show in the heaven thy promised sign; Thou Prince and Saviour, come.

CELEBRANT: The Lord be with you.

ALL: And also with you.

CELEBRANT: Let us pray.

Almighty God, we remember before you today your servant Kurth Eugene, and we pray that, having opened to him the gates of a larger life, you will receive him more and more into your joyful service, that, with all who have served you in the past, he may share in the eternal victory of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

ALL: Amen.

The congregation sits for the Ministry of the Word.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD

The First Lesson | WISDOM 3:1-5, 9 | Clayton Curtis (Long-time Friend)

READER: A Reading from the Wisdom of Solomon, chapter 3 verses 1-5 and verse 9.

But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be a disaster, and their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace. For though in the sight of others they were punished, their hope is full of immortality. Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of himself; those who trust in him will understand truth, and the faithful will abide with him in love, because grace and mercy are upon his holy ones, and he watches over his elect.

READER: The Word of the Lord.

ALL: Thanks be to God.

Please remain seated and sing the hymn

METRICAL PSALM: THE LORD’S MY SHEPHERD

1. The Lord’s my shepherd; I’ll not want. He makes me down to lie in pastures green; he leadeth me the quiet waters by.

2. My soul he doth restore again and me to walk doth make within the paths of righteousness, e’en for his own name’s sake;

3. Yea, though I walk through death’s dark vale, yet will I fear no ill; for thou art with me, and thy rod and staff me comfort still;

4. My table thou hast furnished in presence of my foes; my head thou dost with oil anoint, and my cup overflows.

5. Goodness and mercy all my life shall surely follow me, and in God’s house forevermore my dwelling place shall be.

The Epistle | 2ND CORINTHIANS 4:16-5:9 | Sherwin Johnson (Nephew)

READER: A Reading from Paul’s Second Letter to the Corinthians, chapter 4, beginning at the 16th verse.

We do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. For this slight momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure, because we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal. For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made

with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this tent we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling-- if indeed, when we have taken it off we will not be found naked. For while we are still in this tent, we groan under our burden, because we wish not to be unclothed but to be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. So we are always confident; even though we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord-- for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we do have confidence, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.

READER: The Word of the Lord. ALL: Thanks be to God.

The congregation stands and sings the Gradual Hymn

GRADUAL HYMN | PLEASANT ARE THY COURTS ABOVE

1. Pleasant are Thy courts above In the land of light and love; Pleasant are Thy courts below In this land of sin and woe: O my spirit longs and faints For the converse of Thy saints, For the brightness of Thy face, For Thy fullness, God of grace.

2. Happy birds that sing and fly Round Thy altars, O Most High; Happier souls that find a rest In a heavenly Father’s breast! Like the wandering dove that found No repose on earth around, They can to their ark repair, And enjoy it ever there.

3. Happy souls, their praises flow Even in this vale of woe; Waters in the desert rise, Manna feeds them from the skies; On they go from strength to strength, Till they reach Thy throne at length, At Thy feet adoring fall, Who hast led them safe through all.

4. Lord, be mine this prize to win, Guide me through a world of sin, Keep me by Thy saving grace, Give me at Thy side a place. Sun and shield alike Thou art; Guide and guard my erring heart: Grace and glory flow from Thee; Shower, O shower them, Lord, on me.

The congregation, including family members, stands for the proclamation of the Holy Gospel

THE HOLY GOSPEL | John 6:37-40 | Reverend Fr. Jude Edomwonyi

GOSPELLOR: The Lord be with you. ALL: And also with you.

GOSPELLOR: A Reading from the Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to John.

ALL: Glory to Christ our Saviour.

Jesus said to the people, “Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and anyone who comes to me I will never drive away; for I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. This is indeed the will of my Father, that all who see the Son and believe in him may have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the last day.”

GOSPELLOR: This is the Gospel of Christ.

ALL: Praise to Christ our Lord.

RISE UP O

MEN OF

GOD (Anglican Church Men Hymn)

1. Rise up, O men of God! Have done with lesser things; give heart and soul and mind and strength to serve the King of kings.

2. Rise up, O men of God! His kingdom tarries long; bring in the day of brotherhood and end the night of wrong.

3. Rise up, O men of God! The church for you doth wait. Her strength unequal to her task; rise up, and make her great!

4. Lift high the cross of Christ! Tread where His feet have trod; as brothers of the Son of Man, rise up, O men of God.

SERMON | THE VENERABLE G. KINGSLEY KNOWLES

THE APOSTLE’S CREED

CELEBRANT: Let us with confidence and hope confess the faith into which we were baptised, as we say,

ALL: I believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

ELEMENT BEARERS

Kirstie Wallace (Daughter) & Charleen Kerney (Guild to Help the Sick & Needy)

OFFERTORY PRAYER

MINISTER: Through your goodness, Lord, we have this bread and wine to offer, the fruit of the earth and the work of human hands. They will become our spiritual food.

ALL: All things come from you, O Lord, and of your own do we give you. Blessed be God for ever. Amen.

HYMN FOR THE PREPARATION: O, WHAT THEIR JOY AND THEIR GLORY MUST BE

1. O, what their joy and the glory must be, Those endless Sabbaths the blessèd ones see!

Crown for the valiant, to weary ones rest; God shall be all, and in all ever blest.

2. What are the Monarch, His court, and His throne? What are the peace and the joy that they own? Oh, that the blest ones, who in it have share, All that they feel could as fully declare!

3. Truly Jerusalem name we that shore, ‘Vision of peace’, that brings joy evermore; Wish and fulfilment can severed be ne’er, Nor the thing prayed for come short of the prayer.

4. There, where no troubles distraction can bring, We the sweet anthems of Sion shall sing; While for thy grace, Lord, their voices of praise Thy blessèd people eternally raise.

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

CELEBRANT: The Lord be with you. ALL: And also with you.

CELEBRANT: Lift up your hearts. ALL: We lift them up to the Lord.

5. There dawns no Sabbath, no Sabbath is o’er, Those Sabbath-keepers have one evermore; One and unending is that triumph-song Which to the angels and us shall belong.

6. Now, in the meanwhile, with hearts raised on high, We for that country must yearn and must sigh; Seeking Jerusalem, dear native land, Through our long exile on Babylon’s strand.

7. Low before Him with our praises we fall, Of Whom, and in Whom, and through Whom are all; Of Whom, the Father; and in Whom, the Son; Through Whom, the Spirit, with Them ever One.

CELEBRANT: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. ALL: It is right to give God thanks and praise.

CELEBRANT: It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Father almighty, everlasting God:

Through Jesus Christ our Lord; who rose victorious from the dead, and comforts us with the blessed hope of life eternal. For to your faithful people, O Lord, life is changed, not ended; and when our mortal body lies in death, there is prepared for us a dwelling place eternal in the heavens.

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your name:

ALL: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might; heaven and earth are full of your glory, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

(All kneel)

CELEBRANT: We give thanks to you Lord our God, for the goodness and love you have made known to us in creation; in calling Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets: and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus your Son. For in these last days you sent Him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Saviour and Redeemer of the world.

In Him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In Him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life.

For, on the night he was betrayed He took bread, and when He had given thanks to you, He broke it and gave it to His disciples and said: “Take this, and eat it: This is my Body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

And after supper He took the cup of wine: and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them and said: “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Therefore, Father, according to His command;

ALL: We remember His death.

We proclaim His resurrection

We await His coming in glory.

CELEBRANT: And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine.

We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the sacrament of the Body of Christ and His Blood of the New Covenant. Unite us to your Son in His sacrifice that we, made acceptable in Him, may be sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

In the fullness of time, reconcile all things in Christ, and make them new, and bring us to that city of light where you dwell with your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation:

By whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, Almighty Father now and ever.

ALL: Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

CELEBRANT: As our Saviour has taught us, so we pray:

ALL: Our Father, who art in heaven hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD

CELEBRANT: God of promise, You have prepared a banquet for us.

ALL: Happy are those who are called to the supper of the Lamb.

THE INVITATION

CELEBRANT: The Gifts of God for the People of God.

ALL: Our souls will feast and be satisfied, and we will sing glad songs of praise to Him.

THE AGNUS DEI

ALL: Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: grant him rest.

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: grant him rest.

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: grant him rest eternal.

The Priest and People say three (3) times:

CELEBRANT: Lord,

ALL: I am not worthy that Thou shouldst come unto my roof, but speak The Word only and my soul shall be healed.

5. So be it, Lord: thy throne shall never, Like earth’s proud empires, pass away; Thy kingdom stands, and grows for ever, Till all thy creatures own thy sway.

The congregation remains standing for the Commendation. The choir sings: THE RUSSIAN KONTAKION OF THE DEPARTED

The Venerable Dwight Rolle, leads the commendation.

MINISTER: Let us commend our brother Kurth Eugene to the mercy of God our Maker and Redeemer.

Deliver Your servant, Kurth Eugene O Sovereign Lord Christ, from all evil, and set him free from every bond, that he may rest with all Your saints in the eternal habitations; where with the Father and the Holy Spirit You live and reign, one God for ever and ever.

ALL: Amen.

MINISTER: Lord have mercy. ALL: Christ have mercy.

MINISTER: Lord have mercy.

MINISTER: Our Father,

ALL: Who art in heaven hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.

MINISTER: The Lord be with you.

ALL: And also with you.

MINISTER: Let us pray.

Into Your hands, O merciful Saviour, we commend Your servant, Kurth Eugene. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech You, a sheep of Your own fold, a lamb of Your own flock, a sinner of Your own redeeming. Receive him into the arms of Your mercy, in the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light.

ALL: Amen.

MINISTER: Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord.

ALL: And let light perpetual shine upon him.

MINISTER: May he rest in peace.

ALL: Amen.

MINISTER: May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercies of God, rest in peace.

ALL: Amen.

RECESSIONAL HYMN: LIGHT’S ABODE, CELESTIAL SALEM

1. Light’s abode, celestial Salem, Vision whence true peace doth spring, Brighter than the heart can fancy, Mansion of the highest King; O how glorious are the praises Which of thee the prophets sing!

2. There for ever and for ever Alleluia is outpoured; For unending, for unbroken, Is the feast-day of the Lord; All is pure and all is holy That within thy walls is stored.

3. There no cloud or passing vapour Dims the brightness of the air; Endless noon-day, glorious noon-day, From the Sun of suns is there; There no night brings rest from labour, For unknown are toil and care.

4. O how glorious and resplendent, Fragile body, shalt thou be, When endued with so much beauty, Full of health and strong and free, Full of vigour, full of pleasure That shall last eternally!

5. Now with gladness, now with courage. Bear the burden on thee laid, That hereafter these thy labours May with endless gifts be paid; And in everlasting glory Thou with brightness be arrayed.

6. Laud and honour to the Father, Laud and honour to the Son, Laud and honour to the Spirit, Ever Three and ever One, Consubstantial, co-eternal, While unending ages run.

When all are assembled at the place of interment, the following sentences are said:

PRIEST: Everyone the Father gives to me will come to me: I will never turn away anyone who believes in me.

He who raised Jesus Christ from the dead will also give new life to our mortal bodies through His indwelling Spirit.

My heart, therefore, is glad, and my spirit rejoices; my body also shall rest in hope.

You will show me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy, and in your right hand are pleasures for evermore.

I heard a voice from heaven saying “Write this: Happy are the dead who die in the faith of Christ! Henceforth,” says the Spirit “they may rest from the labours: for they take with them the record of their deeds.”

Man born of a woman has but a short time to live. Like a flower he blossoms and then withers; like a shadow he flees and never stays.

In the midst of life we are in death; to whom can we turn for help, but to you, Lord, who are justly angered by our sins?

Lord God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, holy and most merciful Saviour, deliver us from the bitter pains of eternal death. You know the secrets of our hearts: In your mercy hear our prayer, forgive us our sins, and at our last hour let us not fall away from you.

Then while earth is cast upon the coffin, the priest says:

In sure and certain hope of resurrection to eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ, we commend to Almighty God our brother Kurth Eugene and we commit his body to the ground; earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust. And we beseech you in your infinite goodness to give us grace to live in your dear love and to die in your favour that when your well-beloved Son shall come again in judgment both this our brother Kurth Eugene and we ourselves may be found acceptable in your sight. Grant this for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

ALL: Amen

PRIEST: The Lord be with you.

ALL: And also with you.

PRIEST: Let us pray.

PRIEST: Almighty God, with whom still live the spirits of those who die in the Lord, and with whom the souls of the faithful are in joy and felicity; we give you heartfelt thanks for the good examples of all your servants, who, having finished their course in faith, now find rest and refreshment. May we, with all who have died in the true faith of your holy Name, have perfect fulfillment and bliss in your eternal and everlasting glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. ALL: Amen

Grant, O Lord, to all who are bereaved the Spirit of faith and courage, that they may have the strength to meet the days to come with steadfastness and patience; not sorrowing as those without hope, but in thankful remembrance of your great goodness, and in the joyful expectation of eternal life with those they love. And this we ask in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

ALL: Amen

PRIEST: Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord.

ALL: And let light perpetual shine upon him.

PRIEST: May he and all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

ALL: Amen.

PRIEST: The Lord bless him and keep him, the Lord make his face to shine upon him and be gracious unto him. The Lord lift up his countenance upon him and give him peace.

ALL: Amen.

GRAVESIDE HYMNS

ABIDE WITH ME

Abide with me: fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day; Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away. Change and decay in all around I see. O thou who changest not, abide with me.

I need thy presence every passing hour. What but thy grace can foil the tempter’s power? Who like thyself my guide and strength can be? Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.

I fear no foe with thee at hand to bless, Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness. Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if thou abide with me.

Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes. Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies. Heaven’s morning breaks and earth’s vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

IT’S ALRIGHT NOW

There was a time I traveled

A lonely sinful road

Beneath a heavy burden bending low

But now all things are different

For Jesus took my load

It’s alright now I’m His I know

It’s alright now

For I am in my Savior’s care

It’s alright now

My Savior hears and answers prayer

He’ll walk beside me

‘Til I climb the heav’nly stair

And ev’rything is alright now

A-down a lonely pathway

Without a friend to guide

I walked in sin and sorrow all alone

‘Til Jesus came and found me

And drew me to His side

It’s alright now for I’m His own [Chorus]

No more in sin I wander

No more in darkness roam

The Lord has placed

My feet on higher ground

Each day new heights I’m gaining

My soul is nearing home

It’s alright now I’m heaven bound [Chorus]

IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY HUSBAND

Kurth was a man who loved me unconditionally, honored, respected, and treated me like royalty every day of our life together. In fact, whenever I saw him looking at me for an extended amount of time I would always ask “What you lookin’ at?” and every time he would respond “The cat looking at the Queen”. His devotion was not only shown in words, but in the countless acts of kindness, patience, and care that made our marriage a true partnership for the years we were together.

He became a part of my world, accepted my life, and traveled wherever I led him. Together, we shared countless adventures both near and far, and as a boat captain he found joy in cruising with me across open waters, his spirit as free as the tide.

He was my confidant. He was an avid reader, intellectual and although soft-spoken, a great conversationalist, whose laughter brightened our home, and wisdom guided us all through life’s challenges. To those who knew him, he was a friend, a source of strength, a wealth of knowledge and wisdom, and a man of integrity. To me and Cameron, he was devoted husband and loving father.

Though my heart aches with his absence, I carry deep gratitude for the years we shared. His legacy is one of love, respect, and compassion; a legacy that will live on in me and in all who were touched by his presence.

Rest peacefully, husband. You will forever be cherished, remembered, and loved beyond measure.

Your Wife, Collonna

TO MY DAD

Today, I honor my dad, a man whose presence shaped my childhood in ways I will hold onto for the rest of my life. When I think about him, I don’t just remember moments. I remember feelings of safety, laughter, mischief, comfort, and the quiet kind of love that stays with you long after someone is gone.

Some of my fondest memories with him were small, simple things. But those were the moments that made my childhood feel magical. Like Sundays after church, when he would take me to Montague Dock and we would get ice cream and feed the birds together. Just me, him, and the ocean breeze. I did not realize it at the time, but those were the moments that taught me what peace feels like.

Then there were our food adventures, eating boiled fish and our favorite Bahamian breakfasts at Stars, the Shoal, the Cricket Club, or Poop Deck. My dad had a talent for showing up hungry and turning it into a memory. I will never be able to have boiled fish without thinking of him and smiling.

His favorite days included church, regatta races, and stopping to visit his friends on the Captain Moxie and the Captain C. I became part of that whole world, tagging along, listening to stories, feeling like I belonged to something bigger than myself. My dad loved the sea, and because of him, a little piece of me will always belong to it too.

One of the funniest memories I have is him trying to teach me how to dock the boat. God bless him. He tried. I tried. The hull almost did not survive. He looked at me like he was questioning every decision he had ever made, and then we laughed about it afterward. That was us. He could be frustrated and soft in the same moment somehow.

And no matter where we drove or how quick the stop he would always grab a Bounty for me and a Fruit and Nut chocolate bar for himself at the gas station. That was his little ritual. And I swear, if there is a gas station in heaven, he has already cleared the candy shelf.

I will never forget the pride he had when Cameron was born, his blessed son and splitting image. The way he looked at him

like life had handed him something brand new to love. It was hard sharing his attention at first haha! But I adored having a baby brother and remembered I would always be daddy’s girl.

Today, I also mourn the moments we never got to experience together. I wish he could meet my future children. I wish he could walk me down the aisle one day. I wish we had more time, more breakfasts, more boat rides, more candy bars, more everything. Missing someone is not just about losing the past. It is about grieving the future too.

But despite all of that, I know this. He loved me in the ways he knew how. He showed up in the ways he could. He gave me memories that feel like home, and that is a gift not everyone gets.

So today, I honor my dad, a man who was imperfect, funny, loving, stubborn, and unforgettable. The kind of dad you never stop missing. The kind of soul you never stop thanking God for.

And even though he will not be here to walk with me through all the chapters still ahead, I know he will be with me in every ocean breeze, in every Sunday morning, and in every Bounty bar I see at a gas station.

Dad, thank you.

For the moments we had.

For the laughter.

For the lessons.

For the love.

And for being mine.

I will carry you with me, always.

Your daughter, Kirstie

TO MY FATHER KURTH,

You have been an inspiration to me throughout all the years of my life; from how to be an amazing father and loving husband to being a God fearing man who loves the church. I will truly cherish the moments we spent together forever. Going over world maps and learning countries and their geographical locations, reading through encyclopedias and almanacs, watching Jeopardy at 7 on weeknights or bull riding whenever it was on, lighting fireworks after all of my birthday parties, taking trips to Rose Island with your side of the family and my mother’s, rewatching Diocesan services and listening to hymns, cracking jokes on my mom particularly about her “playing in the dirt”, learning how to fish, and just sitting out on the porch saying nothing at all.

I thank God particularly for the opportunities we had to travel the world together on cruises. From the icy seas of Alaska traversing glaciers and whale watching, to the warmer Mediterranean Sea where we explored the Colosseum in Rome and ventured through the Greek isles. From the nearby Caribbean shores of Honduras and the Cayman Islands to the far away Baltic Seas surrounded by Sweden to the east and Finland to the west. More than ever, did I enjoy our times walking through the great religious edifices of the world such as the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City, and both Westminster Abbey and St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.

Many people are not blessed to have their father in their lives, let alone one as wise, caring and loving as you were. Wisdom 3:2-3 says “In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be an affliction, and their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace.”

I know that you are at peace now Kirky boy; the pain and suffering you felt as your earthly body began to fail you, are no more, as your joy is now in heaven.

Rest on Capt. Until we meet again on the high seas.

Your Loving Son, Cameron Eugene Wallace

A MESSAGE FROM THE RT. REV. AND RT. HON. LAISH BOYD, Bishop of the Diocese of the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands

It is an honour and a the privilege to pay tribute to the late Kurth Wallace and to thank God for his life and witness. He has been an Anglican for all of his life and has served in so many capacities therein.

I note his role as a husband and father, a family man, a church member, a vestryman, a parish treasurer, a member and branch president of the Anglican Church Men, a cursillista and as a synodsman. We remember his contribution as the president of the ACM Council and, in particular, that he served as a member and then the chair of the Diocesan Finance Committee.

We thank God for the way in which he impacted our lives. We thank God for giving him to us, his family and friends, to know and to love as a companion on the earthly pilgrimage. We ask God, in His boundless compassion, to console all of us who mourn, and to give us faith to see death as the gate to a larger life.

I offer heartfelt condolences to his wife Collonna, his children, Kirstie and Cameron, his siblings and their families and to all mourn.

May he rest in peace.

OUR BROTHER KURTH

How can we say goodbye to a brother like you? You brought such love and calmness to our space. You showed us how to love unconditionally, how to share freely, how to speak lovingly and how to navigate calmly. You accepted pain and adversity serenely. You never complained. You were special to us. We will never forget you! We love you and we know you love us.

Love you always.

-Camille, Ernie and Wayde

Ihave the privilege of calling Mr. Kurth Wallace my Godfather. The interesting thing about this title, normally bestowed during a something ceremonial at church, was the natural order of God’s grace to establish this relationship. Over the past few years, I had the great honor of spending so much time with him and helping him as he physically weakened.

With me, Godfather Kurth was not a man of many words. He didn’t need to be. I admired his quiet way of moving through life calm, steady, and present. And he loved the simple things: sitting outside on the porch, watching western TV shows, going on car rides past the dock, and sometimes stealing sweets he wasn’t supposed to eat, or sneaking out the house, and limping down the road to who knows where. In the last five years, being by his side became a natural part of my life. I didn’t just assist him - I learned from him. Observing my Godfather I learned the benefit of stillness, the comfort of routine, and the strength of a man’s presence. Some of my most meaningful moments with him were the quiet ones - his silence was never empty; it was always comforting and strong.

There’s one memory I hold very close. About a month ago, I had to watch over my Godfather, and as I sat in the room next him, we didn’t share a single word. He slept the entire time, and he probably never even knew I was there… but something about being near him felt so comforting. Just sitting there, as he breathed, feeling the peace, he created in the room made me feel safe. It was as if in that moment everything was right with the world.

This is what I will miss most Godfather Kurth, the way he made me feel without ever saying a word. He was always proud of my achievements, and of the young man I’ve become but he didn’t have to “say” it...I just knew it.

Today, even though we are here to say our final goodbyes, I am grateful. Grateful for his life, grateful for the time we shared, and grateful for the ways he shaped me. He may no longer be here with us in body, but the peace he exuded will stay with me forever.

Rest easy, Godfather Kurth, I will see you again on the other side.

(Godson)

A TRIBUTE TO KURTH –OUR NEIGHBOR

You began as just the person next door, but soon became family. We shared gates, backyards, and countless moments that made this neighborhood feel like home.

Your quiet attentiveness, whether sitting on the porch, or noticing a light left on or checking in when someone hadn’t been seen, reminded us that connection still matters. You listened, remembered names, and showed that kindness doesn’t need to be loud.

From sharing jelly coconuts to backyard gatherings, cruises, and simple rides to the store, you gave generously and without hesitation.

You left as quietly as you lived, but the space between our homes feels emptier now. Thank you for being the rare kind of neighbor whose kindness endures.

Rest in peace, Kurth. You’ll always be remembered with a smile.

-Sharon Gibson (Neighbor)
